  • which grip aid for stainless steel

I recently bought a Lil Mynx 45-mm stainless steel pole and I have a really hard time sticking to it. I can sometimes hold with my knee but not my thighs. I don’t have any issue with the 50-mm brass Pole Danzer poles at the studio where I take classes.

Any suggestions to improve the grip? I have never used any kind of grip aid. I do not have sweaty hands. I imagine I’m just going to have to buy different kinds and try them but I don’t want to spend a small fortune buying multiple varieties if I don’t have to.

Grab some itac and rub it on the pole…white vinger will help to…i started out on a 50mm stainless lil mynx pole then moved to 40 mm chrome xpole and now have half brass and half chrome 40mm xpole…nutin in the world beats brass but once u master stainless steel..brass will be cake 🙂

Thanks, I'll give it a try.  I'm finding if I'm on the pole long enough and it's warmer I can get some grip but, dang, you're right that the brass pole is so much stickier.

My favorite is pole. Itac can be good but if it gets too warm it can actually make you slip more. I did a blog on sticky grip aids options on femtadticdance.blogspot.com. It hashas way more info than i can put on here. I can tell you that you can use pretty much anything on stainless.

I use stainless steel pole because of my skin sensitivity.

Stainless steel pole is indeed more slippery than other finishes.

But once you and your pole are warmed up, it'll be much better.(like you said)

I use grip aid, but I only use it in the winter. I suggest that you get used to your stainless steel pole because once you are familiar with stainless steel pole, poling on a brass pole or other poles with different finish will be a piece of cake.(like cupcake said)  I personally think that stainless steel pole is the best for strength training.

Thanks for the thoughts.  I knew when I bought it that it would be more slippery and figured, as you guys have said, that it would make poling on anything else that much easier and would make me stronger.  However, when I told my instructor that I bought stainless she actually suggested I buy something different when I can.  I wanted to tell her that I didn't buy it because it was what I could afford–I bought it because it's what I wanted.  I love it–slippery or not so I'm just going to keep working on it and figure it out as I go!
