Ah thanks guys. Veena I’ve just taken advantage of your birthday lessons offer and I have an amazing instructor at the studio (has judged the world championships so I know she’s hot) and so hopefully things will progress nice and quickly for me.

Ok, decision made, I’ll try and get a video up in the next couple of days of the few bits I can do so far (eek!!!)

I’m in!! I quite sadly like doing the plank but I’m not very good at it. I’ll do my day 1 today and let you know what happens. I def need to improve my core strength so this is a great idea. Can’t wait to get my shoulder mount and if this helps then brilliant!

Been doing some reading and this all rings so true. I used to do weight lifting and the guy in this forum explains what I get perfectly: http://training.fitness.com/weight-training/forearm-splints-3215.html

And reading this I’m pleased to find it’s an actual real thing! http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/sport-injuries/elbow-pain/forearm-splints

Thanks for shedding some light on this for me. It’s actually a massive step forward to fixing it xx

My instructor encourages us to pay attention to this and says that recurring instances where one side is more sore than the other indicates a weakness that you have to make an effort to correct, so more practice that side to help level up.

Yes you are totally getting how I feel. My split grip hurts even if I haven’t done anything for months and months. I have to say I do have the best instructor ever who will always find an alternative move for me if she’s teaching something that requires it but at the end of the day I WANT to be able to do those things. How will I ever do any of the upside down stuff if I can’t get through it. I’d definitely be interested to follow the other post and see what comes up. I’ll also ask Annie (instructor) if she can suggest any alternative grip or anything when I go in next week.

This move is yet to be something I can do. Stupid forearms won’t let me weight bear so I’ll sit this one out, but I can’t wait to see everyone’s amazing flags x

Ahhhh MeganJoan I hadn’t even thought of shin splints! It’s a very similar pain so yes maybe that’s it!!! My physio said that all over body conditioning will help but I think that it needs to be more specific conditioning too and I like the thought of the hold for a second or two and then gradually increasing it. Thanks for all of those suggestions guys, it’s so helpful, especially to know that you’ve been through it and built up the strength where the pain is no longer there too. I was dreading that this would be a permanent thing that I would just have to work around.

I do 4 studio lessons a week. I’m very lucky and have an incredible instructor who teaches both the pole dancing and conditioning work but then I do also have my pole at home so that I can practice things in my own time and try to build on the things I’ve learnt at the studio. I also find that at home I lose my inhibitions a bit and it all kinda flows a bit better.

I’m recovering from a shoulder injury and it’s so frustrating. It’s been weeks and I’m only working on one side while it recovers but it’s going to take such a long time. I can’t push forward with some of the harder moves until it’s repaired so I feel your pain. My physio told me to work on all over body conditioning to stop my shoulder from overcompensating for a weakness somewhere else.

Same here, I feel your pain! I have caused muscle strain and the physio told me it was cause from the shoulder over compensating for a weakness somewhere else in the body and to do all over body conditioning exercises like planking, squats etc. My core isn’t massively strong and I rely on my upper body strength. Could this be the same for you?

My instructor calls the second one the Soria hold (because she saw Soria Judd do it and didn’t have any other name for it!) but with that one we learn to put our arm around the pole over the top of the leg and reach over to hold the other one.

@blondebird It’s not too small. I clear most of the furniture out so there’s nothing to hit myself on.
@shortie1509 I actually feel alot sexier at home (I’m not a small girl so need to build up the confidence to “strut” before I feel comfortable in public!). I do think it’s the space thing though. Once I put that unreasonable worry out of my head I’ll be fine. Maybe the hubby needs to build an extension for me to have a pole room in 😉
