oh and my limited knowledge on sex swings… I feel like I recall most of them being doorway mounted… π

Ha! I love your advice!
I actually have a walk up attic right above my pole room and I can access the joists pretty easily (i’ll have to pull up a floor board or two, but we do that from time to time to get to wires and stuff anyway.) So if eventually you get a chance to snap a pic that would be helpful.
But because its a walk up attic and kind of like a 3rd floor I’d hope it was load bearing… even though its not finished, we had hopes of finishing it one day way down the line, guess that would be an issue if it wasn’t structurally sound !!!
Is it dumb that I’m more worried about pulling the beam down with a 12in bolt than I am about using a small bolt that falls out and i fall on my head (i mean I also wont be swinging like crazy or anything… and what, I’ll be 16in above the ground at most?!?
Ok well, I might just get the hammock and use it from my pull up bar and see if I actually use it enough to make the work worth it…
I think my ideal situation would be a swivel single point mount…. not so I can swing, but so I can always face parallel to my wall (instead of perpendicular) so I don’t kick it, and so it doesnt get in the way. Seems like split like stretches and back bend stretches face different ways. Anyway. It’s all in my swiveling around head right now. π who knows.

I didn’t mean to start anything if I did… Like I said live and let live, to each their own. It’s not my thing, but I understand why some people are into it, just like any body modification! Just like pole isn’t for some people. You guys seem really knowledgable on the subject so that’s great… I’m really just fearful of these teens I see hurting themselves to look like a Kardashian. I think that’s where my gut reaction against it comes from.
I will say though that breathing during pregnancy was awful. It was probably the most uncomfortable part. I often felt like I was drowning or having a panic attack. It’s hard to explain, but I was constantly gasping for air. That’s not really relevant, just a fun little thing I thought I’d add. Joys of motherhood.
But anyway, hope I’m not fanning any flames. You all are great. That is all.

Thanks dustbunny! Good advice. The classes I went to were mixed level class… but I might try a pole flow class or something (but thats something I struggle with too, and I’m not sure how trick heavy it is) I guess I’m just not “in love”, like the first time I went to a lesson with my usual instructor (at her home).
But my instructor just had her knee surgery yesterday, but she is feeling ok, and she signed her lease in her appt for another month…. so I guess as long as she is around and feeling better I’ll just try and go to her.
And also I completely redid my pole room so I think I need to just get used to pushing myself more at home. With the occasional class here or there. π

Ok so i’m updating….
After going to the 50mm Brass studio twice… I opted not to go last week because I was frustrated (and really tired from a busy week)… I was going to give it another go this week, but I realized they were closed to “raise the roof” Which is great. They are removing the drop ceiling and gaining a few extra feet.
But its a shame because people there are nice… my frustration last week was the pole burn. Yes, the 50mm was not ideal but I don’t even think that was my issue. I’m not used to the brass… and its possible that because its 50mm there is more surface area… but I just found things that should be no big deal for me (like pulling up from gemini and twisting into figurehead) were extremely painful and frustrating. I imagine if we were going like isolated trick practice this would be fine.. but moving through combos was rough. I felt like my skin was not ready for this at all… I imagine it would get used to it, like it did when I first started poling. I just found it frustrating because I knew I could do these things… and she’d walk around and give me great pointers, and I was trying to just say thank you and take in her pointers but in my head I’m like (UGH, WTF, I SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO THIS)
And I think the brass is the issue with why my shouldermount isn’t going well on those poles. I was fine in a V, but think I was having trouble sliding my shoulder down to get my legs fully to the pole… Afterwards, I knew it hurt but I couldn’t tell if it was internal (like a bruise I couldn’t see) or my skin…. But the minute the sun shined on it and it stung I realized it was the skin. :/
Anyway I will go back because I have more classes and I’m interested in trying longer poles! But yeah, I’m not sure if once a week (or every few weeks) is really enough to make it ever get easier so I’m not sure how much I’ll actually go once my class card ends.

Tropical Verical, that hand behind the back trick was something very high on my to do list!!!

My gut reaction to corsets has always been somewhat negative, and it has to do with a lot of reason… This post I saved a while ago kind of summed it up. (See attached)
Now I’ve learned that my gut isn’t always right and things aren’t always as they seem, and what’s good for one person isn’t necessarily good for another… So I’m not trying to put anyone down.
I also did admit I’m not really researched on the current state of corsets, I just find them to be like medieval torture devices and not sexy to me.
But I also like the idea of taking back something that use to be a source of pain or oppression and totally “owning” it and letting it empower you.
Live and let live. Γ°ΕΈββ’

I’ve had similar issues with posture…. If you look back in my profile somewhere I have a post with a pic asking questions about posture. Most of it has been corrected by just strengthening my core.
I’m not THAT informed on the subject but I’ve traditionally been anti-corset. But again, don’t take my word for it.
Anyway, back to the question regarding the scapula. I’m not sure posture is 100% at fault. I think it takes time to build the muscles to hold your scapula in that correct position while supporting your weight. And spins can be notoriously hard on the shoulders, even for experienced dancers.
I’m sure someone else can advise better, but I’d recommended some of veenas conditioning exercises and just taking it easy with spins. Limit yourself to a certain amount per side. :)that’s what I would do anyway.

You might find this thread I started interesting…https://www.studioveena.com/forums/view/555dead7-0400-4763-a8ee-3efc0a9aa0eb I was going through kind of what you were… Do I attend a studio with larger poles, and with a finish I didn’t love. Lead to some discussion… I thought it was interesting. I actually want to do an update when I have more time. Maybe later tonight π

Just another side note on Pinterest: I know a lot of people have excel sheets and stuff… but its also possible to Pin a picture of a move (like from Veena’s gallery) and move it from board to board (like Want to try, Working on or Perfected)
Currently Im not that organized. But I’m seeing the possibilities.

Also, I’m going to make my way through this thread eventually!!! Don’t be surprise if you see some of these pop up on my Pinterest board!:)

Ok, hmmm….
I usually do it from my computer where I installed a chrome add on, so I just have to hit the Pinterest button. That’s easy, but I’m not sure about other browsers or anything. From your phone I think the first step would be figuring out how to paste. I have an iPhone so I only know how to paste on that…
But using the Pinterest app. (See attached picture)You go to your page, hit the +, then select to pin from Web, and paste the link in there…
Hope that helps some!

Vdub, it should just paste as if you were copying and pasting any text… it all depends on what kind of phone you have I guess.
Also just as a side note… I’ve started pinning stuff to pinterest. I find it easy to locate things because there is a thumbnail and you can easily save things from instagram, and even organize them into catagories. π
