I’m no expert yogi… In fact I’ve only really attended free yoga at Lulu Lemon. But the great part of that is there is a different host studio each month (and they usually send different teachers each week) so you get exposed to a ton of different yoga styles.
The one thing that is common throughout… Is they tell you “this is your practice” right up front. They explain it’s your time. And if you want to spend it in child’s pose or just meditating that is fine. If you want to move through the poses that’s great too. It’s very centered around what YOU want and what makes you comfortable.
The idea of them making you keep your hair down is ludicrous to me. I could see if they wanted you to pull your hair UP for safety reasons or something… But down to relax?! Forget it. I probably would have made some smart ass comment about meeting her halfway and putting my hair half up.
It’s a shame that she seems so rigid, because the idea of a yoga/pole combo sounds nice to me…. But I’d also want other classes available like choreo or something sexy that didn’t involve yoga.
And like others have mentioned, a private lesson is really your time. Granted she is still responsible for teaching you what she thinks is safe and within your level… But really it’s your time.
Sounds disappointing. I’m sorry. π

MemberSeptember 10, 2014 at 7:56 am in reply to: Can I use my platinum stages pole in a mobile homeSorry I’m like no help to this.. I just wanted to ask what beach you’ll be at? I see You’re from PA, so I didn’t know if that meant you’d be heading east to the Jersey shore. My family lives at the shore and I’m about 20 min away.
Those peaked modular homes are common down the shore (thinking Belmar specifically)… and would be super fun to own. After sandy many were washed away, and had a ton of damage… everything still standing is pretty sturdy…. and everything just built had a ton of hoops and regulations because of the storm so they were build super sturdy as well…
My guess is there is a SOME way to do it. But I’m not the person to tell you how. :/

Sounds like your headed in the right direction. I admire you for being dedicated to healing.
I just wanted to say good luck and I can’t wait to see more from you… Whether it be hooping or chair or whatever. Your spirit and flow always shines through in all your videos, pole or no pole.

Whoop whoop! Stars!!!
@Lucca. I do love your cards! Im too lazy to make my own. But I love them!
I was just thinking of something fun for a kick starter… And Veena basically has photos of all the moves in the gallery, so it might not be toooooo much more work (but probably is). I was just thinking how if someone was using them during open pole time or had this ring of cards hanging from their gym bag that could be good to bring people to the site. I know the ultimate goal is the lessons, but like I said sometimes people like to have something physical.. At least until they get used to seeing Veena and wanting more… Someone might have a pic of veena doing some move on the card and think “yeah I should sign up for the lessons so I can do that!”
I also think I may not have bought the PDA book right away (and paid extra for a signature and sketch) but I just was into the kickstarter idea and it was fun and wanted to help support and idea and make it come a reality. I’d def pay extra for a Veena signed book or cards too!

Oh, good thinking Olivia!!!
or like laminated flash cards with pictures of the moves on them… Maybe even the kind that are on a big ring. Something like that could be cool… and you can change the order around, or have a few piles or rings, depending on what you’re working on…
Could be a fun project that would be something people could purchase… and add too… and it would get people hooked on seeing Veena smiling face!

Because apparently I’m full of suggestions and have no filter*….
How about a kickstarter for something? Maybe for an app? There is no pressure if it doesn’t meet its goal. I was so pumped and excited watching the the PDA book get funded!
And my brothers company has a kickstarter right now… and I asked him all these questions from someone relatively unfamiliar with the process… like “what if you don’t get funded… are you still going to make that product?” and his answer was… hopefully, but this will help it happen sooner rather than later… ALSO (and a big also) it a big advertisement… even the people who do not donate to that particular project may check out their webpage and buy a different product already in production.
And I think kickstarter uses Amazon not paypal if that eases anyone fears.
*I’m a loud brain-stormer… and that how I work. I talk things out, throw out a ton of ideas, maybe some will stick, some will be helpful…. and if I’m lucky they all won’t suck.

1. I agree wholeheartedly about Paypal… It may not be prefect, but it’s certainly the lesser of the evils.
QUICK STORY: My credit card was stolen, as was my husbands, and a few (I’m talking like 3 or 4) of my friends over the course of like 6 months… and we kept asking WHY? Then one of our friends got a new card and made 1 purchase… Chinese Food delivery… and BAM card # was stolen. Turns out we were all ordering online chinese food from the same place. We all contacted our CC companies but they really didn’t care who did it. The purchased were refunded, and the cards were canceled, they really didn’t care. We contacted the restaurant (maybe it was a rogue employee or a hacker? they had a right to know) but they didn’t care at all.. and basically said there is a risk any time we use a card online. It made me realize how insecure things are…
I do trust paypal.. and I completely understand why you use it.
2. I do like the idea of seeing who has the lessons. I just didn’t want to create any divisions. I do think it would encourage more people to get the lessons…
Anyway I’m happy I have the lessons. π

This may not be something you are interested in but I’m just throwing it our there. I’ve seen other websites that have the special icons for paid members (ie. a Heart Γ°ΕΈβΕ) next to the username.
This sort of becomes like a status symbol… And everyone wants it. For better or worse. I know that I’ve been on sites like that. It’s usually positive. But sometimes it’s becomes a little like The Sneeches with stars on their bellies (for you Dr. Seuss fans)…

Oh for sure. Yours really stands out though! Fingers crossed for you.

Great pic! I recognized that pic as a Veener! Its a great (and sexy) pic
My instructor is a contestant too… Where did you see the voting was extended? I didn’t know that!

Awesome!!! I’m going to watch as soon as I can. Thanks for thinking of me. You rock π

You could have been inside my head a few days ago…
I was working on a lot of side climb and knee pit moves (figurehead, Cupid, kneehold) I was so bruised and sore with my skin burning, (a feeling I used to like… The sign of a good workout). I just felt like asking myself “why am I doing this to myself… why am I physically beating myself up like this” I felt like I love pole, but pole doesn’t love me back. Yoga for instance (which I do once a week) is never as fun or satisfying but also never leaves me black and blue.
But I just needed to shake it off. I put those moves on hold. Worked more in my comfort zone… And worked more on dancing and choreography…And the feeling passed. Mostly I think my funk was a mix of hormones and work stress… But venting and talking with other polers helped and so did easing off. π

Are you guys using mobile devices?
From my laptop its pretty easy. I guess it would be harder on the phone… and a lot more scrolling!
I also just hit control+F (apple+F) and search the page. Also the SV search usually pulls up the lessons pretty reliably.

Just click the lessons tab up top.. Then hit the beginner or intermediate or advanced tab or whatever and scroll through the lessons!
