Ah! That’s not too far from me. I’m in Central Jersey. Near Princeton… But we’re no strangers to the franklin institute and chickies and petes! 🙂

    Happy poling!

I had a started a similar thread. What is the finish on your pole? I have chrome, and I found it can be quite slippery.

For me it came down to temperature. My pole’s temp and my body’s temp.

In class we always have a 20+min warm up that involves getting our body warm and getting the pole warm. I realized thats what I’m missing. Sometimes I want to just get moving a little faster so I’ll put the space heater on. I still TRY and warm up,… but I’ll also warm my body/hands on the space heater (or the power brick of my macbook which gets really hot) it helps a lot. But if your problem is sweaty hands thats a whole different issue…

Thought I’d pop on here too since this thread got brought back to the spotlight.

I was a young mom and totally thought I’d bounce back into shape in like a week (WRONG!)

….but when I did loose the weight is when the stretch marks showed up. I am lucky that the placement isn’t that obvious. But at first the skin was very pigmented and I was really upset. It was also sunken in, shiny and have little wrinkles in it.

I ended up paying the big bucks for the laser (like 8+ years ago it was more expensive, and there weren’t groupons)… and it helped take the pigment out but it can’t change the texture of the skin.
So I still have areas that look like this: http://www.rafskinna.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/how-to-prevent-stretch-marks-during-pregnancy.jpg
    (just a google image)
I do think they they would have faded over time (almost everyone I know who had them faded and look just like mine a year later) and the laser gave me a few weeks of scabs (for like 5 treatments)… so I don’t really think it was worth it.

Anyway, I have noticed new stretch marks pop up over the years (even before pole) because I’ve continued to lose weight and get in better shape. Yup. I did P90X and noticed a stretch marks popping up on my boob. (who knew A cups could shrink!)… and they’ve all faded but they are stilly that shiny/wrinkly texture.

It’s possible that because pole gets you fit, it causes your skin to be a little loser and that combined with all the sticking and pulling can lead to stretch marks.

I have noticed though.. the few on my inner thighs, after something like pole-sits, get more sore than the surrounding healthy skin, and become sort of raised and welt-like… it’s probably because the skin isn’t really healthy strong skin.

For me the date was the issue too… When you have kiddos you want to be around to take them to the fireworks and BBQ. The 4th of July is kind of a family holiday… and I’d feel bad missing it.

Count me in! I’d be up for any of those workshops!

Are you only interested in studios?

Princeton has a few old mansion with huge lawns that have yoga workshops from time to time.
    http://morven.org/events/event/yoga-in-the-garden/
Also there are the sculpture grounds that are good for stretching/flexibility. I also see people holding workout and yoga bootcamps at the shore too. Though, I guess for those you would need more advertising planning than doing it through a studio.

Well, if you’re anywhere in driving distance from me I’ll be there! Yay!

Veena would know better than me… but I think the SV pole is 1 small screw.

    Yeah, I would contact x-pole.

I don’t know anything about making your own pole… but I would be concerned about the finish of the pole. There are a ton of threads here about finishes on poles and how they can be quite fickle. What were you planning on using for the pole?

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Oh good questions. I do lessons at my instructors home studio. It’s either just me or me and one other person. If there is one other person then it is a mixed level class.

My instructor will usually try and keep our lessons related. For example, last class she worked on superman from the ground with me… and with my more advanced classmate she worked on different aerial entries into superman.

While I really like the format… I do wish I had the social aspect of a big class.

However, I do often wonder how the big studios work. Pole is so individualized… while some people can invert quickly, others cannot. Some people have trouble with spins, and others with climbing (me). So, I’m not sure how a big class deals with all of that.

We have no levels or exams, we just kind of work on what we feel like working on… but I agree that little routines she teaches usually get lost, and not picked up again (unless I video tape it so I can practice it again), but it usually doesn’t make another appearance in class unless I ask for it. But that is usually preferable because I want to use my class time trying new things!

Ugh. Studying is definitely no picnic!

In dental school (and even in college before that) I would make a lot of color coded charts for things that required memorization. Sometimes I wouldn’t remember what class a drug was, but I’d remember it was written in pink, so it was probably XYZ. 🙂

    Good luck!

I haven’t been single since high school so I’m really not one to give dating advice… but I find that saying “pole fitness” raises a lot less eyebrows then saying “pole dance”… and for me thats honestly a more accurate description because it’s rare that I freestyle or choreograph dances. At this early point in my poling it is much more about practicing certain moves then dancing. I usually liken it to the rings for gymnasts (only way cooler).

I am not far from NYC though, and most of my friends live in NY so usually they have heard of pole fitness before because even a bunch of the big gyms have pole classes.

My husbands friends were all like “oh man” and asking him all these questions… as if I was doing it for him. I bet he says “trust me guys, its not that sexy… and involves way more bruising and yelling then you’d think”. Haha! My husband is happy I’m active and doing something I enjoy, but he honestly wouldn’t care if it was running, pole, pilates… whatever. 🙂

I love that video Veena!!!! I am slightly lobster obsessed. Lobster is def my spirit animal. I was even a Lobster for halloween…. And your kids are adorable!

I don’t have any issues sharing pole with my son. He is 10. He thinks it’s pretty cool and he isn’t yet aware of the stripper stigma. He isn’t super fascinated with it or anything, but every now and again he’ll ask if he can try something or watch me do something (usually when he is procrastinating cleaning his room or avoiding bedtime.. smart kid, he knows how to distract me!)

People always ask “what if he tells his friends at school?” I’m not really sure what they mean by that. Again, (like everyone else) I’m not wearing Brazilian booty shorts, heels and twerking in front of him. I think he would just say, “my mom has a cool exercise pole that you can climb up and slide down like a fireman” or something to that effect… if he even thought to mention it.

Like most things, if you don’t act like its a big deal then neither do they.

    Awesome suggestions Veena!

I am getting a puppy soon… and I SOOO wanted to post asking about “poler pets” and their names/breeds etc… but I didn’t know how welcomed that is, or if it just clogs up the forum.

I am going to try and keep the Chat open a lot more. I’m on my computer a decent amount at night, and I really like chatting 🙂 Alas, tonight I’ll be in bed soon. (I turn 29 tomorrow, but my bedtime is that of a 87 year old)

A suggestion or two from a user:

    1. I think rather than edit, maybe an Addendum would be nice… like you can add a note to your original post.. so I don’t need to make a new reply to clarify/correct myself. If that makes sense. It’s not really necessary.. just a thought.

    2. Is there a way to get my alerts on SV? First I had the alerts turned off and I wouldn’t know if anyone replied to a pic comment or something I left a long time ago… then I turned the email alerts on and BAM BAM BAM, email email email… which isn’t so bad, but I’d rather just see them go to my SV inbox. I’m not sure if thats possible, or if that option already exists…

Hope those suggestions didn’t sound obnoxious. I think this site is better than 100% of all other sites. So its not like I’m trying to find fault… Just brainstorming.

I super love my lessons. I had a friend over last night and introduced her to my pole (she wasn’t familiar with pole at all) and I showed her SV and we had such a fun little pole session

    PS- HAHAHA… prancercise. 🙂

There is one on my local craigslist listed for $650.

Now, I don’t know if they’ve had any offers or not… but I do know that they are the only one.
So, if someone is looking for a used X-stage I guess they have the market cornered.
