Such sad news. She will be missed, but I really do believe many of us were touched and inspired by her… So in that sense her memory will live on. 💕 My thoughts are with everyone who is hurting right now. Hugs.

    I would email xpole.

I’m no expert but it looks to me like an old model xpole with threaded connections instead of xjoints.

They should be able to help you find instructions.

  • Ugh! I’m also sorry this is happening to you and your baby. My Willow tore her ACL too, then the other one not long after it. It was when I was in high school but I vaguely remember saying that once one goes the resulting imbalance after the surgery usually means the other one will tear as well. Poor little guy. Hope everything works out ok. hugs.

I always liked Veena’s lessons, I need to get back on that wagon when I can.

Her lessons are seriously best for a lot of things… I think I took it for granted for a long time, because her videos were some of the 1st ones I watched. As I branched out and saw more and more of what was out there and it can be seriously concerning.

With that being said, here are some of the things I have/did…

I did not like the AA dvd myself. I went to a friends house to stretch and she popped in the DVD, I don’t own it, and I only did it the once. I will agree of what was said about ballistic stretching… but also I feel like the production value is poor. I’m such a stickler for things like that. Sometimes there is a countdown on the screen, sometimes there isn’t. Sometimes she tells you she is switching sides, sometimes if you don’t look up you’ll miss it! I also think the order was somewhat strange…. like from what I remember you do your splits first, then later you’d do a hamstring stretch, or something of that nature. I don’t remember.

Fit & Bendy… I have both flexibility DVDs. I like them both. The 1st one was more of the traditional stretching DVD and a little less of a strength building DVD. The 2nd has more of those active flexibility exercises that leave your muscles screaming.

Maddie Sparkles Middle’s digital download. I got this for my birthday… and I like it. It’s not a DVD you follow along with. It’s more like a series of stretches. You can watch the exercise/stretch and then pause it and do it, and the resume… Which I suppose you can do with any DVD, but I like working at my own pace, so I kind of like this.

I bought a used copy of Cleo’s RL&A but I haven’t tried it yet… I heard its very active, and I never seem to have the energy to even start it. I really like stretching after my shower at night and prefer a more meditative stretch.

I think when I get back on the lessons I’m going to try Veena’s 30 day flexy program. It seems really well laid out…

I know someone who submitted a video for it…

I don’t know much about it but I looked over the rules with my friend who submitted. The mandatory moves were very flexibility oriented (no handed jade and cocoon) so that’s just something to consider. I know amazing polers who can’t cocoon!

The novice division has 2 categories artistic or sexy. I didn’t feel like my “style” fits with either. Also something to consider.

But yeah, I’m happy it’s back, hopefully I can go watch!!!

Also, sometimes it’s about just learning go access the right muscles. It’s about drawing your shoulder blades down your back (without over doing it). Doing that involves accessing small muscles you rarely use. It can be difficult to target them at first. Veena has a scapula video somewhere that is extremely helpful. Hopefully she can chime in and point you in the right direction.

Pole is going to be great for you. I also work in healthcare, and really building up my core and back strength has done wonders for me, and I think it even extended the life of my career. 💕 I love pole!

Yeah. I completely get your frustrations.

I’ve had a mixed bag when it comes to instructors there (and in general). It’s really hard cause you aren’t going to click with everyone.

I’ve met some pole stars/instructors that are so humble and gracious and others that just shouldn’t be teaching…but do it to be able to travel and pole.

As far as the studio goes, it can be (and usually is) an absolutely wonderful place, but can discourage you for sure. There is a mentality there that can be draining… A lot of the people there have a ton of time to train, and go to multiple classes a week, and workshops and camps, and it can feel like “I’ll never be good enough” for sure.

And many times, not just there… But many places…the more advanced students get all the attention, or sometimes they know the instructors and it feels like you’re intruding by being there…. Or the opposite feels like it’s happening, like they are focusing and picking on you!

Anyway. Big hugs. It’s not just you.

Pole can be frustrating and sometimes, because we love pole so much, when someone “ruins” it for us it leaves you feeling very vulnerable and wounded… 💕💕

Ugh!!!! Bummer! I’m sorry you feel that way. Did your gf leave feeling the same way?

It’s frustrating to feel like you paid a lot to be discouraged! I don’t have a lot of advise other than not to give up… Don’t let someone else ruin something you love for you. I’ve left a few workshops feeling like this (and I’ve been to a few really great ones too!)… But more often then not I prefer to go to a teacher I know and like, and who knows me and my learning style (and Veena too!) Sure it can be good to learn from a lot of sources and pick up and absorb as much as you can… But sometimes it comes at a cost :/ I’m sorry. Big hugs!!!

Curious if this was this the power intensive? 4th to the 6th? I was considering doing it (but it was expensive and I had a few things I had to do at home that I couldn’t get out of) but I have to say, I’d probably be in the same boat as you!!! Plus I’m not a quick learner. I usually need to sleep on something before things click.

Ok these are the best videos I could find.. but it’s the Alexander Wang after party. I know Nicole the Pole was there and Irmingard Mayer.

These videos don’t so much, but I feel like both the girls and some others posted a bunch of videos on instagram around the time (Sept 2015)

Hey!!!! So happy to see this!

Some of the NYC girls did background dancing at a fashion show a while ago… And a lot of it did involve holding poses and such.

I’m out now, but I’ll try and look for some videos later.

I haven’t tried Janiero in like ages (but mainly because I gave up and started working on other things, and more combos and less single moves) but that one is suchhhhhh a struggle.

I really struggle with this move thats like a pole sit to reach down between your legs and do like a thigh rest to invert. I find it so difficult (here is a terrible example… https://www.instagram.com/p/__9U_CDLC1/?taken-by=akpoles

And a CAR bridge scares me. I always opt for CKR instead 😛

I’m watching this now! It’s great. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I agree with a lot of the thoughts shared here.

When people say to me “You pole dance? Like a stripper?” I usually say something like “Nope, I wish I made money from it, actually its a huge money pit for me, but I love it.” :p
