P.S. Did you guys find out anything else about the judging criteria from Brooke Notary? What are the other points for?

Hey ya’ll, I didn’t really want to talk much about Amber’s routine b/c there is a surprise in it and I didn’t want to give it away. I will say though that along with Jessalyn’s exquisite piece, Amber’s was my fav! It did tell a story, one that is important to her and that you’ll recognise if you’ve read any of her blogs or read some of her writings here. I think she has been hesitant about putting her sexiness out there to display and she brought that to life on stage Saturday and totally owned it in her performance. At least, that was how I perceived it. It was really brilliant and mid-way through, she even had the croud laughing. It kept me enthralled from start to finish and I was so happy for her, being up there on that stage, to be able to share her life with us. It was a personal piece and it was such a pleasure to watch her perform. I did take one of her workshops this weekend and I will say two things. One, she is a talented instructor with thorough knowledge of anatomy/physiology. Take a workshop with her if you can!!! And two, she is stunning in person. She looks like an angel carved out of alabaster! Oh, and I have a third thing, so is oh so very sweet!

Hey Blueeyes, I second you on Leigh Ann. She did a lot of cutsie booty shaking and I like a lot of her youtube vids better than I liked her performance. I agree with your take on Jessalyn too. I felt her execution was technically flawless. I really thought Jess was gonna nab that title. I did see slip ups in a few of the girls performances and you are right Alethia did have a little mistake.

I went into stealth mode a taped a lot of the show. Unfortunately there are heads in the way and the view I got (held the cam to my chest to cover the glow from the screen) caught only the tops of the pole. I gotta go through them today and I’ll post later if I have anything good. My gosh, there is so much to comment on I don’t even know where to start. I have to second gator girl and say that I could that Sarah was so not into it. However, when she was on the pole, her talent was freekin’ undenyable!!! She has so much potential, but her heart was just not into it. She did walk back and forth and when she approached the pole she just looked up at it and then hopped on. There wasn’t any passion. Alethea’s performance had a wierd effect on me. It SCARED me!! Because she was handcuffed, I was so afraid she was gonna get hurt or tangled! I couldn’t focus on what she was doing because I kept worrying about her being cuffed. It was a dark piece and my mind visualized tears and angst and black spider webs coming from her and flying into the audience. Very emotionally evocotive and powerful. It reminded me of the movie Legend when the heroine dances for the devil. Anyone seen that?? Anyway, my fav dances that didn’t win a title were hands down from Jessalyn and Fleur! Fleur’s routine was brilliant as I think it symbolized her evolution from ballerina to pole dancer. It gave me chill bumps and got me misty eyed! I hope she does a re-make and posts it here b/c all you guys will LOVE it! In case she does, I won’t describe it so you all will live the surprise as I did. Love you Amber!!! Jessalyn’s piece brought me to tears. It was technical perfection and just a beautiful artistic piece that varied from her usual rocker style. She danced to a broadway showt-tune, I’m thinking its from Les Miserable???? Can anyone verify that?? I am biased though, because I’ve studied under her and she’s my home-town hero. Both Fleur and Jessalyn’s performances did not necessarily fit under the titles ‘trixter’ and ‘sexy’, but they both deserved some sort of recognition for their creativity and passion they so clearly portrayed. Karol’s performance for me was, as usual, AMAZING! Her bendy lower back and silhouette make for such stunning moves. She brought the house down when she was on her belly in between the poles, brought her shoe to her mouth and LICKED it!!! SEXY! She told me it was completely spontaneous. Her tricks were of course astounding and her mastery of spinner just got better if that’s possible!

The amateur comp was so great to see. The theatre was very small and I was able to nab a seat in the 2nd row!! Most of the girls put on very ‘dancy’ performances and did a lot of floor work between the poles. Mina did a fantastic job and for me Kyra really stood out on her optional routine. She really deserves a spot in the pro-level. I think I was rooting for her b/c I saw her slip (pole was f-ed up) in the East Coast comp and she really deserved a second chance on a clean pole. Becca’s performance had a lot of people talking and my friend said she’d have chosen her to win if she were a judge. She did some new combinations that blew me away. Caterina stayed on the pole for most of her routine, but she seemed disconnected somehow from the audience. I kept seeing powder flying off of her and lots of sparkle rained down off her outfit. Amy Richards was so cool to see, very dancy of course, and she did a move that lots of the girls who were with me raved about. Must try it!! Amy Guion wore a very cute outfit, but it was a bit poufy and I think it took away from her lines a bit. Overall, all six are fantastic dancers who deserve props and recognition. Caterina keeps me going b/c she’s in my age range and is going strong!
All in all, $20 bucks for a second row seat watching the big girls dance! Wow!! So glad I went!

I stand corrected Milien. Since I don’t live in AU, maybe I shouldn’t speak for Aussies!! Sorry ’bout that. I guess I should say that at Bobbi’s Pole Studio, they use skinny spinners a lot and they seem to me (living in the US) spinning experts! I haven’t been to AU since 1992. Man, how I’d love to get back there since Aussies rule at pole!!!

Nope!!!

Oh Julie, I’m so sorry about your sister. Please take all the time you need to be with your family and don’t worry about us.

Australian poling is predominantly done on spinners but their poles are a lot skinnier (38mm) allowing for fab grip. Bobbi’s DVDs are a great resource. I have them all. Jamilla’s top the list though with her fantastic instruction and her Art of Pole series covers a lot of spin mode moves. Karol Helms is a spin mode master, so check out her Youtube vids and do what she does!!! Spin mode is an art unto itself, almost a whole different species. It takes incredible grip strength, courage (haha), and grace! I love spin mode!

I got two of these from Dick’s:
http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3977664&cp=2367438.2367453.2368579.2049960They have velcro on the sides the i put one on each side of the poles, & squeeze them together. They velcrow hold REALLY well! I think I had a discount coupon as well, so both cost me about $100 total.
Now that I’m not so worried about falling anymore, I use them for stretching out on. I love ’em!
