I feel exactly the same. I don’t mind working on like pole sits or spins, but I can’t just dance and do floorwork and sexy stuff while he’s around, unless it’s for him as you say. I’m lucky in a way because my boyfriend works abroad so I have the place to myself half the time. And I find when he’s playing playstation (most childish 26 yr old?) he’s really uninterested! But yeah I save the ‘sexy’ stuff until he’s gone.

I don’t think he’d mind leaving the room. I guess it depends on how many rooms you have in your house.. like we’re in a 1 bed apt, so sending bf out of the living room might be cruel! Maybe you can do your floorwork and dancing when he’s not around.. at work or something? And just work on perfecting moves when he’s there.. that way he’s there to spot you should you need it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Oh yeah I saw where it said it’s mandatory, I thought that was kind of funny… very authoritive! I thought that was just the first time you assemble it, like to figure out how to do it. Anyway I managed to put it up myself, yeah it was pretty heavy, but it was actually easy enough to do. Although i spent ages twisting the pole, trying to make it longer, after about 5 mins, I was wondering why it was taking so long… then I went down to the bottom, realised I had left it in spinning mode! So I was there turning the pole for no reason!! Haha that was funny… classic amateur mistake!

Yeah I guess taking lessons is good, because you know that all the muscle pain, and the frustration is normal! My arms are feeling a bit better today, but don’t know how strong they’ll be! I’ll do the dancy thing anyway and see how I go https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Thanks byrdgrl, I know you and everyone else is right, it takes time. But i’m so frustrated, I tried to pole today after taking a 1 day break, but my arms are still sore from the 2 days before, so they literally wouldn’t work! Could barely hold myself on for a fireman spin. I even found it hard to pull the gearstick into 2nd gear when driving home tonight! Oh dear!

In regards to the lessons, I got myself a dvd from the same person I got my pole from (UK supplier). Turns out the only move on the whole dvd i can do is the fireman! even the strength training moves are too difficult for me to attempt! So I will definitely have to get some cash together to get Veena’s lessons when my bf gets home from his trip.

Also, one more question, I feel like tomorrow my arms may still be sore and weak tomorrow, so should i maybe leave the attempt at tricks another day? Is there anyway I can end up leaving it too long? Or is it best to wait until the pain in completely gone?

I appreciate everyone’s encouragement and advice, thanks x

I’m sure there have been injuries, but i’d imagine they’d mostly be muscle or tendon, or maybe nerve impingement. Bruises are just small internal bleeds, and will heal up in most people (certain types of haemophilia may prevent healing). These shouldn’t cause any long term damage, just a bit of tenderness and an unsightly bruise!

I don’t know much about the injuries that can occur from pole dancing… i’m sure plenty of people on here can comment on that. But I know that bruises are usually nothing to worry about.

This is my first pole, so I can’t really compare it to any others, sorry! Although as far as I know they deliberately made the base a lot smaller. I got the 50mm. I noticed rust on the inside of the pole while taking it down yesterday, is that normal do you know? Have to try put it up by myself today.. that’s gonna be fun https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

Thanks loupielou for the encouragement, i’m surprised at how hard it is. People make it look so easy!

Yeah I think measuring progress solely by weightloss (especially if you’re not overweight to begin with) can be misleading as, as was mentioned before I think, muscle weighs more than fat, so you may well be slimmer, but weigh more. And onviously that’s a positive thing as you’ve then got less fat and more muscle, yay! You can gauge muscle tone loosely on someone fairly slim by just looking… can often see outlines of muscle groups.

In regards to BMI, a lot of my doctor lecturers don’t hold much regard for this method of measuring nutritional control. Yeah it can tell often if a person is really over or underweight. But if you’ve got a naturally short person, who has large muscle mass, or a tall, naturally thin person, the results won’t tell you much. Rather if a person is eating a fairly balanced diet, and exercises regularly, they will usually then be at their ‘natural’ and usually healthy weight.

I’m really encouraged to hear stories of people losing weight by pole dancing. My main goal isn’t really weight loss, but i wouldn’t mind dropping 10lbs or so in the next few months. If that doesn’t happen, i’m happy with maintaining my shape! I know that exercising often helps you to eat better, it’s like you’ve got a reason to do it now!
    Here’s to hoping anyway!

Can I just second that. Macs are awesome. I used PCs up until a while a go, but I was persuaded to buy a macbook. Definitely a good move, worth speniding more than you would on a PC. Yesterday was my first time ever using video recording/editing/uploading software, and found it pre installed on my mac, totally easy to use and uploaded to SV like a dream! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Wow really, so you don’t use a mirror or record yourself usually? I left my webcam on most of the time i was practising the other day, but accidentally left it on for ages… while we had lunch and everything… lol

Good idea. I found when I was practising the other day, my bf was totally uninterested, playinh his playstation.. But i’m pretty sure if I started doing some of the moves you did in your vid, i’d get his attention pretty quick haha!!
I must move my mirror in when i’m poling, surely that should help?

I found it really difficult to sit on the pole even while holding with my arms! Not only does it hurt my thighs, but my thighs don’t seem to be able to squeeze the pole at all… and that’s where I thought I had muscles!

I think I did the fankick, i presume it’s the same as the windmill. I found that fun, but it really hurt my upper inside ribcage (right under my breast basically!) from holding it against the pole during the fankick. Is this normal, or could it mean that i’m doing it wrong?

I can’t see myself doing inverts anytime soon, I can’t even do a one arm spin, and my abs leave a lot to be desired, so i’ll definitely keep working on my strength https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
