Yeah it takes me ages to heat up my pole, even with the central heating and electric heater on, and if I leave my pole to watch a lesson or look at my last move it goes cold again!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

It’s actually probably so much better than you don’t have a pole so you can prepare. I got a set of little pink dumbells before I started poling and used them for a few weeks too. Im sure it helped. I did exercises I think I got them from Veena called YTI. Not sure if those specific ones are in the lessons, but the exercises that are there will help you. I should really look at those more often! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

You mum sounds cute https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I told my mam a few months after I got my pole and she didnt really seem to care! When you do tell her you could show her the more acrobatic pole videos on facebook to help her realise its not seedy? Having said that, people are going to hold on to their preconceptions. The other day I went to a family gathering and was rushing to a pole class, which my mam insisted I call a dance class, lol! Ah well, I’m happy and they can tell how muscly I am now so im clearly not just shaking my ass around a pole hahaha! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Oh and shop around for lessons, there are so may places just out to fleece you and they’re not true pole classes if you get me. Generally classes here are 80 eur per term so in UK should be the same or less, and if you call up and ask about pole:student ratio and what poles they use, you’ll be able to tell if they really know what they’re doing. I learned from Veena’s lessons, but joined classes recently so now I do both. I just felt I needed a class to motivate me, but Im so glad I didnt learn solely from a class as I’d have learned at a much slower pace.

AND for the smoking thing, I dont know if you’re already into fitness but I find when i’m working on something, its easier to have a goal, like you know your exercise threshold is lower with smoking whatever.. But it is hard. I gave up smoking a few years back (although I didnt smoke loads) and even that wasnt easy, but stick with it, you’re young, it will be worth it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Geez that was a whopper post, well done if you actually read it hahaha!!

I have the same problem. Someone advised em to engage my abs when Im doing anything, including spins. It probably works, but I forget to do it. I’ve added 100 sit ups ot my routine and now I feel the burn, lol!

    Hey Mora!
I’m in Ireland, there are loads of UK polers on here! I live in a little apartment with my boyfriend and I have a pole, have to move the couch when I practise (usually!) You could take a term of lessons and see what you think before committing to having a pole, as they are expensive! Alot of people learn to pole dance without even owing a pole so thats no big deal.
Also, like you, I have a bad shoulder and it has gotten SO much better since I started poling. I think its down to strengthening the muscles.. but its different for everyone, just take things easy and you should be fine! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Don’t bother asking your GP about pole dancing lol, and if the GP has okay’d your shoulder, I’d personally recommend going to a physio instead, they know much more about muscular problems generally! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

I did the yogini today actually for the first time. Im pretty short too -5’3" is being generous! I find thing like the ballerina and allegra difficult i think sure to the fact that you have to arch the body around the pole, I actually didnt find the yogini to be so bad in the respect, as long as I squeeze with my arm and get an arch with the legs to make my hip puch against the pole it seems to be okay. ALthough I’ve only tried it once as I’m too sore to try again, lol!
    I’m sure you’ll get it glitter https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I’m not sure about the dizzy thing but when I first got my pole I was so nervous in front of him! I’d spent a month hyping meself up (and him) about getting a pole and how many videos I’d watched. Then when I got it, ok I couldn’t do anything and you can so it’s not the same, but when I did learn stuff, I was embarrassed of him watching! My pole’s in the middle of the sitting room so that made things difficult!!

After a while he became uninterested anyway, and I started to care less and less.. Now, I could be in nice underwear sexy dancing with my Pleaser’s on and he won’t look up from his iPad https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif You’ll get used to it, just keep going and ignore him https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I was planning on preparing a routine to show my boyfriend when I felt confident but in the end that would have been too much stress, so I just let it happen organically and now it’s not an issue. Don’t worry you’ll get over it soon i’m sure https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I decorated mine too lol! Only lasted a day though as I wanted to dance. And I was kind of worried about the lights short cicuiting and giving me an electric shock.. Lol not sure if that’s possible!! Anyway, love your pole! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Do you find yourself sliding off? I know that the biggest difference for me between home and studio pole is that my home one is so much slippier. I don’t know why but it is! I can do spins but anything else I often need grip for which leaves my hands dry and sore https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I’m sure with practise you’ll be fine. I’m presuming you can do these things in the studio?

There are poles second hand on gumtree and craigslist and the likes, if you can somehow verify its real, hten you could go for one of those, some of them are new and unwanted gifts. (Yes, there are people out there who don’t want poles!?!) And if you have a look around and enquire on facebook there tends to be people or studios selling xpoles, and that way you know they’re trustworthy. Good luck finding a pole! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
