MemberJune 9, 2011 at 6:00 pm in reply to: What exercises can I do to prepare for pole dancing??Just keep an eye on the $20/month because it auto renews. The lessons do have some off the pole work. The stretching and conditioning is off pole. You can modify the strength routine to be off the pole too. I did parts of it on a door frame/wall today. Floor and chair is good and fun IMO it doesn't really prep you for pole tricks, but I'm so not a dancer.
I'm also looking for cardio to complement the pole. I try to dance on my no trick days (need a day to recover) but I'm terrible and get bored really quick.
Yoga is great, it complements everything. It can be easy stretching one day, then modify for strength the next.

Cheap poles are going to be the ones that fall down or break on you. Don't be afraid to invest in the expensive ones, the Xpole and Lil Mynx poles will last for years.
Veena had an awesome article on choosing a pole, but there isn't an articles tab on the website anymore. She references it in this thread, but the link doesn't work anymore. *Requesting good link to Veena's choosing a pole article.
This thread sums it up very well. https://www.studioveena.com/forums/view/Things_to_know_BEFORE_you_buy_a_pole_2009-07-17_024327
I've always been in the upper 160s to mid 170s. Lil Mynx and X-Pole have been completely solid for me.

Breathe and get up slowly. Make sure you stay down and get a good deep breath in and out first, then as you sit up inhale. It can also help to circle your arms out to the side and up overhead as you inhale. Yoga breathing has made pole easier for me, I used to hold my breath in moves and get lightheaded all the time.

My boyfriend always gives me this answer, I hate hearing it, but its always what I need. "You'll do it when your ready!" I always respond that I'm ready right now, but I know I'm really not.
Are you ready to really work out and get a regular routine? Are you really ready to eat properly? Have you really hit your point of such frustration and being fed up with yourself for not doing it that your finally ready?
I only hit this point about 3 weeks ago when I went to my yearly OBGYN appointment, I was niave about my weight and size, but the dr office scale didn't lie, I'm the heaviest I've ever been. Since then I've been tracking my food/exercise everyday with my phone, I bought Veena's lessons, and I have the Mayo clinic's book about keeping a healthy diet for a lifetime being shipped to me.
I'm still waiting for when I'm finally really ready to start work a master's degree lol

Cellulite is so funny. Solutions contradicting. Medical experts don't know how to get rid of it and its not even a harmful condiction like weight can be. Its a pure cosmetic issue that everyone wants to make a quick buck off of. I certainly don't believe in such sillyness…I'll use the free solution.
So I was sitting in the bathtub a few weeks ago, coffee grounds and olive oil all over my thighs and butt wrapped tight with plastic wrap for the 15 minutes the home solution website swears works. This is totally the cure….
Wait how do I actually measure cellulite? How do I know it was the magic of coffee and olive oil and not my new eating lifestyle and exercise plan? If my body is absorbing the caffine in the coffee to lossen the fat isn't it also absorbing the fat from the oil? How do I know this isn't a placebo? Is cellulite all in my head to begin with?
As I sit questioning myself over my solution to body issues my boyfriend walks in and demands to know what Lady Gaga is doing in his bathtub. This snapped me out of trance and all the coffee grounds go in the trash where they belong now. He teases me about this now anytime I bring up how I look.
TL;DR Stop driving yourself nuts about cellulite. The "cures" are silly. The stuff that works are things you should be doing anyway (good food/exercise).

@MommaBear – That only makes sense for peer to peer filesharing. StudioVeena is not peer to peer, its a client/server relationship. You upload a video, it goes to StudioVeena's server, when I go to watch your video I get it from StudioVeena and not you. The original posting speed doesn't matter.
I used to work tech support for a major PC company and my brother worked tech support for a major US ISP. It was in both companies scripts to suggest it was the other after a certain point (lazy tech support will jump straight to this step). Your ISP isn't going to admit a problem if they can help it so of course its the other person, computer, etc.
If it were a server (StudioVeena) problem it would effect everyone, or pretty close to everyone. The problem being limited to some users shows its the client (you) or the path between the server and client (ISP). The ISP includes the path it takes from the server to the client.
I have never had the video pausing issue discribed so I cannot offer further help :/

I like how you put "cleaned" in quotes because thats how it usually should be. I have oh so many stories about "cleaned" computers that really weren't. Its probably unrelated, your whole internet browsing would probably lag if you had bad stuff making you lag. Always exceptions though.
If you share your internet connection with other people in the house, they could be downloading/watching something thats slowing you down.

I'd feel bad posting the stretches because its been so long and I don't remember enough details to do them correctly.
I used to do karate and the owner of the dojo was friends with the "worlds most flexible super heavyweight" or whatever his title was. He did a free workshop and $5 VHS tapes. (I told you it was a long time ago lol) I still have the tape somewhere, but no VCR. It wasn't really a workout tape and really low production budget style, but it went through the exercises in detail with the science of why it works and how to stretch without injury.
Its available in DVD now. You can pick it up for about $25. http://www.stsrocks.com/stretch.html
Its all about stretching the muscles not the connective tissues. It involves stretching to find the pain point, backing off the pain point into the comfort zone, and then flexing the muscle to expand the comfort zone. So by the time you get into the splits it doesn't even feel like a stretch because its now your comfort zone.

Sounds like how often might not be the problem, but what your doing when you stretch.
When I was working on improving flexibility years ago, I only did it once a week because it was such intense stretching. The once a week sessions really paid off and I could flat splits on both sides and almost in the middle. I never really paid attention to my progress when I was only doing mild/medium stretching a few times a week, but it was nowhere near what I could do after the once a week stretching.

I second the request for improved search functionality.
I like to use "site:studioveena.com + <search term>" in Google its a little more helpful, but not by much. I couldn't find any threads started by you for bum slide using Google either.
I'm not doubting the Webmaster's ability, but I don't think he'd code his own search engine. Super awesome if he did, but its probably a 3rd party module or external search that pops the results back into the page. Its been a long time since I did webdesign, but I was a pretty lazy designer and used a lot of 3rd party tools, why recode the wheel if you don't have to. Just might need some tweeking or a completely different tool.

MemberMay 24, 2011 at 11:23 pm in reply to: Strength training for pole that has worked wonders for me!Adding my love for the strength routine! Its fun to go through the all exercises with guidance. I've only done it twice, but its starting to get easier to climb.
I'd like to request a conditioning routine to round out the awesome conditioning lessons. Warm up, strength routine, conditioning routine and call it a day when pressed for time.

I clicked the link and thought that picture was the advertisement for the contest so when I clicked the vote button I was all confused why it didn't take me to another page to vote. Took me a second to realize that was you! Your picture just looks that professional.

I'm also curious about spinning mode on the pole. Unfortunately, I'm not able to translate other people's performances into my own moves and need detailed instructions.
I haven't made it through all Veena's lessons yet, but just browsing it doesn't look like she covers spinning pole.
Are there any DVD's or videos out there offer step by step spinning pole instruction?
