I’m 29 and have not been very into exercising. Judging just from what you can see of women on this sight- YES! Definetly! Some of the women I most admire on here are 50+.
It’s also encouraging to progress & keep at it because every time you do it you feel really good, so even when you don’t get moves right away you still want to practice them for the adrenaline.

Wait, the 12 yr old won the lesson? Is that her older? (A bit confused…) I’d love to see that 12 yr old do pole, her moves are amazing.

Yeah, I have the same exact kind & I know what you’re talking about. Make sure not to over tighten it….I’ve re-adjusted mine 2 or 3 times now & can see how much spin I lost by overtightening to begin with.
(Also..mine is 11ft & was afraid of it falling…I have had it happen once, but the top crown part just got dislodged & the whole thing didn’t come crashing down. I’ve seen videos posted here too of that happening. Just do check ups on it.)

That is pretty much what I think of it as. One of the challenges in freestyle is trying to link movements together and make them flow. (I’m actually getting ready to upload a freestyle!)
Also you have so much variety to work with… all the different music and mood choices. A lot of people free style more as an expression & emotional outlet. Also if you prefer making routines you could freestyle and hit upon a really interesting movement and them build on it.
I’d like to hear more people weigh in on this. I really like watching my own freestyles afterwards…it brings in a visual element that makes a lot of sense for me (I’m a painter..) but I’m also curious if how I felt while dancing to the song is reflected in my movements. I get a lot of surpises out of that. Sometimes a dance will feel great while I’m doing it, then I’ll watch what I filmed later & it looks unsynchronized or just like a different mood than I was experiencing.
Freestyling just feels great to let go and move to the music. It almost feels more like dancing at a show where you get absorbed.

I’m curious how studio dancers work with it because I feel like I wouldn’t be able to fall into it the same with folks passing through.

I’m also curious…if you freestyle over and over to a certain song and find certain movements with different parts of the song and keep those and freestyle
around that do you consider that a routine or freestyling?
(hopefully not threadjacking here, just interested in the topic.)

Hey, I’m not sure how helpful I can be since I’ve never trained at a studio. Are you asking how much is acceptable safety wise? There’s the obvious precautions (like spotters, crash pads etc) but I’ve found Veenas lessons to err greatly on the side of caution. Many moves she teaches how to practice from the floor. (This has been really helpful for me, to figure out what is going where and really get a feel for the contact points). Another great feature is the ‘search’ button up top. I’ll find a move from Veenas lessons, work on it a lot, and then usually search it to see how other people do the move, or find discussion or ideas for combos etc etc. For self practice just pick something appealing to you within your range. Filming your practice for yourself is very helpful just to see how your doing moves & sharing them here you can get a lot of good advice from multiple view points. Anyhow, welcome!

Yeah, I can’t imagine practicing that first jump onto it (especially as a man. ouch.) @kate92 – HAHAHAHA! That’s hysterical. Maybe from now on if I tell people I do pole dancing and they say something about strip clubs I’ll go, ‘No, like this-” and flash em this video!

I’ll weigh in with another 45 mm suggestion. I’ve got a 50 mm TG (I definetly recommend TG for the grip) I’ve never actually tried a 45 mm but it isn’t hard to imagine that a bit smaller would create less strain.

Apparently sometimes my boyfriend gets wasted drunk, assumes my identity and gives rather helpful sounding advice. lol. (The night this was posted he came in the room & said ‘I posted something under your name on that site’ I was initially alarmed, now I’m feeling pretty impressed by how articulate this came off knowing how drunk he was when it was written.) Hope the hand is feeling better!

This is a really interesting discussion. GoldenDiva brought up a good point about social media….the thing with that is this technology is still so young we’re pretty much experimenting on ourselves. Hopefully we will hit some saturation point where we can no longer ‘out do’ ourselves or each other and simply be able to ‘do’ and focus and share that. I watched a pole dance video recently that was so over the top… from the set, to costume to non-stop crazy pole moves..it actually made no impression on me. It felt like melodrama. All the arts incoroporate a sense of balance and harmony, when one sees crazy tricks one after another, crazy tricks are no longer exciting.
Oh and thanks for mentioning Crystal Belcher…I just watched her performance and it’s really touching.

Thanks for sharing this! Does the brand matter? Or any particular ingredient to look for? This seems easier and faster than ordering dry hands.

I haven’t done studios either (though I’d like to just to try it out one day). You will definetly be kept busy here! There’s also a great variety of dancers abilities. I see people post things here that make my jaw drop and say, “holy shit!” out loud. Then I see more fundamental basic moves and often see something in those videos too that inspires me. What’s so cool is you have a basic movement and though we all do it ‘the same way’ we all also do it our own way. I love getting to see such a variety of people with different shapes and different styles.

Im assuming this has to do with circulation, so it might help to massage the callouses and take an ibuprofen.

sometimes calcium deposits form directly below the skin where a callouse might form. usually they are uncomfortable and ache a bit. placing hot packs on them may break up the deposits, but more often then not it just takes time. these calcium deposits are hard and feel like they are directly below the skin, they may be mistaken for callouses. they occur directly “below” the joints on the fingers and on your palm. not everybody gets them. btw, this is “Bagladies” boyfriend. I used to rock climb quite a bit and got these all the time. they suck, but usually go away after awhile.

Hahahahaha. (A good read.) I am too lazy & unpatriotic (plus can’t do the move at all) to attempt the flag. BRING ON THE RUSSIAN HAIR FLIPPING!
