This story brought tears to my eyes.Thank you for posting this.
My oldest son was born prematurely at 32 weeks and they immediately whisked him away from me. I didn’t even get to see him until he was almost 8 hours old. I was not allowed to hold him until he was 4 days old. They let the both of us do the Kangaroo after the 4 days but those previous 4 days were hell on earth for me. All I could do was touch him while he lay in his incubator.
My youngest son was born on time but couldn’t keep his temperature up to be bathed so they laid him until a heat lamp for a few hours and watched him. I was not allowed to hold him during this time and now seeing this I wonder, what was the harm in letting me holding my children after birth? Why couldn’t my body warm my child to be stable enough to be bathed?
