You may be able to adapt an elbow grip to stabilize yourself, when climbing.  But that's all I use my hands for anyway, just stability.  I always climb with my legs, making contact from the bottom of my ankle to above my knee.  In fact, I think the elbow grip is good for lots of stuff.  Sometimes I shoulder mount with it.  You've got me wondering if I can ayesha with an elbow grip too. Hmmm I will try this.

I don't mind my calluses.  I get them from working with my pull-up bar, silks, and pole. But I am wondering if I should remove them.  Do calluses reduce your grip capacity by making your hands slippy?

@ Organic Angel;  I am not taking it out on the working girls.  I am not upset with them in anyway.  Don't know how you got that from what I said.  They are welcome to it, but most of them don't even pole dance. Many of them are amazing performers, nonetheless.  Also, it was an aliteration when I said tricked-out.  I meant getting lots of tricks under your belt, not putting on shoes or makeup.  xo

To clarify: I'm cranky about how social perceptions closet our sport in the midwest.  But I can see how you thought I was bitching, cause I was. lol. And others are right, I could organize a showcase, or travel to competitions.  I just don't have a huge amount of free time in between working, and going to school, and raising my son.  We all have our priorities.  I guess I'm gonna have to put my love for dance on the shelf until I accomplish a few other things.

I have had a great experience with my mirena.  I did have spotting occasionally for the first six months and a little cramping.  I no longer have a period.  I love not worrying about birth control!  I think it makes a big difference if you get mirena after having a child, bc the cervix is more lax.  I don't remember any cramping at all after the immediate insertion, when I had it inserted 6 weeks post-partum.  Sometimes I can feel it tho. I always check for the threads once a month.

I have to disagree, distracted.  It is NOT in your head.  I'm new on a TG and the pole stickiness makes a huge difference, as does the diameter of the pole.  I have a chrome x-pole and it can be tough to spit grip on the darn thing.  I use windex and acetone to clean the pole and have to wipe it before I attempt a TG handspring, or I might fall and hurt myself.  The studio has a lot grippier poles, they are stainless, but I suspect they have accumulated residual grip aid over time, and that's what makes them so grabby.  You should try a grip aid, like Gorilla grip at home, when you get a little buildup on your pole, you may find it easier to keep from sliding.  Other than that, just practice, and condition and your hands WILL get strong enough to hold onto any pole!

To studio owners: please give me details about your insurance. What company writes the liability insurance? What is the annual cost? How broad is the coverage? And liability wavers where did you get yours or did you have to pay to have them written? Professional performers: do you carry your own insurance too?

I like wearing makeup, but honestly it is for others when I do.  I know its not me and not what I look like.

Makeup is fun but loving yourself is better.  🙂

Ah, I found a vid of it on youtube.  Emotioncatcher.  Awesome.  But you are all correct, I would need hella wrist-strength. Thanks for the replies.

  • @lopsiJulie  Me too! I have the stiffest joints (not muscles).  My ballet teacher said my hips will never change and I will never get a beautiful turnout.  I'm so sad about this; but I'm still hoping that she's wrong.

Yes, I have come across this sentiment.  Don't be discouraged.  You can try to share with other, or teach them, but some will never come around.  Personally, I find some peoples reactions humorous and I think "Oh well, I can't please everyone but…  I wonder how much living they are doing under that rock?"

Get padding; bc you will fall!  The trick looks more beautiful the more horizontal you can get; but sometimes I feel like I am spring-loaded.

I have clip ins that I LOVE from hairextensions.com.  Does anyone have a problem with wearing them while they pole? Sometimes mine pull out if I flip my hair.  I have really fine hair, so is there any way of getting them to stay in a bit better?
