Thank you for posting this. I’m a size 5-7 now, but used to be a solid 14-16. I’m still one of the bigger girls in my advanced class, and I know I’m months ahead of where they were when they were when they were pre-one year. But I still get what I call “big girl anxiety”. “I’ll never look that slim”,”if I was smaller I could do that” “I refuse to do that move because it makes me look fat,” etc. I get really let down and can’t perform as well as o could because I get caught up in how I look right then and there. Especially because the me in my head is not how I actually look. My instructor doesn’t understand because she is my size (but not my height) and the only thing she can say to me is, “you aren’t fat so I don’t know why you’re worried.” I’ll ask her to read this blog because I know she cares–she just doesn’t understand.

I have gotten moves and done them for a while and then I lose them for x amount of time without taking a break from the pole. Handspring and SG aysha are the two that love to just come around whenever they please.

@Chem I have a pair of beautiful pleaser boots that I wear with skinny jeans…I Snapped the heel at work so I have to be delicate with them. So walking is the only thing I would dare do in them. I love them so much, though. When I get this car crap figured out, I'm going to by the same pair in vinyl for learning new tricks.

No, you can directly go from superman into allegra. You superman, and then when you drop instead of dropping into scorpio you drop straight into a pike—the tightest pike you could ever do ever. My studio calls it "superpike" 😛 And then reach the hand around the pike for allegra. So far my instructor and my friend Jessica are the only people who can do it like super fast and make the transition look flawless. But with the right practice you can do it so the pike almost isn't a step. Thus, superman –> allegra
-
Probably– you could do a modification of it from revese corkscrew to scorpio. But it would be teddy?

I think the dove drop is amazing. If you lack the flexibility for dove, you can always do superman –> scorpio instead. OR (and I don’t know the name of this drop) you go from superman to allegra. It’s tricky on a spinning pole, but the WOW factor is worth it 🙂
Depending on what length of pole you have, just dropping from inverted crucifix and stopping a few inches from the ground is a show stopper. I also like Jenyne’s drop combo…off the top of my head, I think she is either sitting or in figure head, then she leans sideways around the pole into brass money, and then drops again into flag. She does this in a few of her videos, but the most recent is uh…the eye candy one in tokyo. I’d get the link but I’m at work :/

Also, I really like the combo Anastasia does in her new pole passion video

from 1:03-1:12, but you can cut it short after she does the roll down thing to standing at 1:08. Or even at the shoulder mount. Hm. Possibilities 😛

Oh, I'm going to try that at work!
I really love spin combos. I am terrible at them, though. I really like oona spin (which all the way into butterfly isn't as hard as it looks) and the ballerina spin combo on Veena's static spins-only video 😛

Starting at about 1:30-1:38
fireman –> back hook –> ballerina

I actually excel at advanced moves but suck at beg/int when it comes to being amadextrius. I can do janeiro on both my right and left side, and CAR -> flag on both sides. Aysha and caterpillar both sides. gemini? NOPE. Not happening on my right.

I wear boots at work and your feet sweat more in boots, but the grip factor is way better and I feel like there’s more support in the ankles. I prefer boots over any kind of shoes

I find that moves are like cats; they show up and leave whenever they want. There are a few loyal moves that you will always have, and then others that you might only see once or twice (friggin' handsprings.) But; you will grow to love the ones you have more than anything because they're the ones you can depend on no matter what 🙂 And they'll always be there! Well. So far mine are. |: I have never heard of anyone having to "put down" a move/stop doing one except for a while because of repeated muscle stress. But you can always come back to it.
Infact, most moves that I can't get, if I just ignore them for a while, I can normally do them again without meaning/ trying to. This has happened with handsprings, janeiro, and jade. Once I got jade and janeiro properly acoustumed to my body type, they've never left me :3 I hope your pole journey works out for you! Lots and lots of cats….

In my experience I prefer the clear heels for actual climbing. 3-5 inches is best. The vinyl looks better in my opinion, because I prefer black. But the black, unlike the clear tends to "peel" off exposing a grey soft undertissue that is somewhere between suede and cardboard. It does not play well with the pole. Also, I find that the clear shoes last longer. Most of my co-workers have had their clear shoes for 10+ without issue…the only thing that sucks that most clears come with white soles, which quickly become dirty and look unappealing |: But if it's a studio setting, I really don't think anyone will care 😛
