|: I won't do teddy or yogini because they hurt. I've been struggling with knee hold the most. I could get over superman, but kneehold is seriously making me cry.
Rest days: Back mobility every day, splits training every other. If you can invest in a roller, I also recommend rolling atleast twice a week! I cheat and do my stretching and off pole strength training while watching TV 😛
I personally also try to sneak in forearm exercizes every two to three days, and I recommend it for new student who advance quickly. Seems like your forearms and tendons take a little bit longer to build then say, your abs for inverting. Unfortunately, tendonitis is a common pole dancer thing :/ I have it and it really sucks the days it flares up, and I can't even do a hold on my pole without feeling like my arm is going to fall off.

I think this is a great idea! I always see some posters repeatedly on Veena and I almost want to read an editorial or watch an interview with them, regardless of if they’re beginner or intermediate or advanced just because they’re such awesome people! I would love to see something like this. I like seeing the monthly challenges because they challenge the dancer, but it isn’t competitive. I’m assuming that this also wouldn’t in the slightest be competitive, but still a nice little way to shine some well deserved spotlight on some of our lovely Veeners 🙂

._. I am so awkward, oh God.

I tried getting her to do it in private at home, and at a studio with an instructor. Her knee was actually shot when she got an mri last week, so her knee pains were preventing her from loving pole. But! She comes and watches me at the studio and is a spectator, so that’s a step!

You might be a pole dancer if the only place your family remarks on you bruises are your feet and your arms (teddy, yogini)
you might be a pole dancer if you have old socks that you’ve haphazardly sewn vinyl tack to because you’re too cheap to buy the real thing, and your mother asks you, “are you sure you don’t want me to put your weird workout socks in the washingmachine?”
You might be a pole dancer if you work as an exotic dancer, and approach female customers in your club mostly to try to nudge them into taking classes with you instead of trying to sell them and their partner a dance :p

I am going to be late to work, but typing all of this for you (and also myself) will all be worth it.
I started watching Felix Cane on youtube when I was 18. When I went to a bridal convention, a local studio was hosting for bachlorette parties only in their booth. I refused to let my fiance at the time pay for lessons (or anything, really) so I didn't do it. Probably one of my greater mistakes in life.
When I turned 19 (the day I turned 19, actually) I kicked him out and broke up with him and spent six months looking for a job. Then I found a job as a waitress at a strip club, and got forced into exotic dancing. It was either "stop being a waitress and dance" or, "get the hell out of my club." It was the only source of income I had had for two and a half years, so I accepted the position, even though I didn't want to.
I hate my job, but the one thing I can look forward to, every day no matter what, is that I can pole. I've been poleing for 6 months and am more advanced than a majority of people. I can shoulder mount, invert, aerial invert, superman, etc. So through poleing 4/5 days of the week (for many hours with breaks between stages) I've advanced far in a short amount of time. While I hate my job more than anything in the world, poleing makes me better.
Whenever I get upset that I can't do a move, a go through all the moves that I can do, and the ones that I can sorta do, and then I go and look at old videos where I couldn't even do a hold, or pull myself up, or not kick into an invert. Or whatever. "JUST FOCUS ON WHAT YOU DO GREAT" is honestly the best pole advice I've ever recieved :>

But the quality isn’t too horrible if the lighting isn’t synthetic. It’s not HD, but it’s really good! When I record in my garage, though….a cheese grater would do a better job recording :/

@ Crazykitten
Gaga admitted to being an erotic dancer before she was discovered in New York. Whether or not that includes pole dancing is to be determined, but she was definitely a dancer 🙂

MemberAugust 26, 2012 at 1:55 am in reply to: Anyone not like platform/clear heels for yourself? As an exotic dancer, I would have to say that I like stripper heels in certain situations. If you can actively pole in a room with high ceilings, go for it! If you're like me and 5'10" (making you approximately 6'Godzilla") you end up kicking the ceiling , which is not classy or sexy at all. That's inverting from the ground, by the way :< If you haven't worked up to inverting, then I guess everything is all fine and dandy!
There are certain moves that I can't imagine doing in heels (Special K, but Chelle Hefner apparently tackled that one. I still can't quite get my brain around that.) But I'm sure with enough practice you can do anything.

For things like intermediate spins, I transition form more basic things. Cradle, for instance, I go from basic pirouette (leading with my right hand on top) and just turn back into the pole into a cradle with my left hand on bottom, right hand on top. I can do cradle on both sides, so it doesn't bother me
I really recommend going back and doing Veena's basic series if you have the lessons. I'm a self taught exotic dancers and redoing Veena's basic under arm spins and whatnot has really helped me strengthen my flow.

You can learn the gemini climb and go into all sorts of different stuff; figurehead, another invert, a hold, teddy, etc.
