Will the new beta website also be cellphone compatible? I check SV primarily through my phone at work 🙂

MemberSeptember 16, 2013 at 3:53 am in reply to: Installing X-Pole X-Pert in Garage – Ceiling issue?I pole in my garage and suggest using a piece of ply wood or really anything between your dome and the ceiling. I've had my x-pole up for a year and a half without issue, have taken it down several times, and you'd never be able to tell that there was a pole in my garage 🙂 I do recommend getting some sort of faux flooring underneath your pole, though. It's really dusty here in AZ and the dust that comes through the cracks of the garage floors gets all over the ground and then you end up with the dirtiest feet.

Err, if you DO get the pole sleeve *** If you want to don't mind not doing spins

I didn't get the chance to play on the SV pole, but I have tried powder coating in the past. If you want to work on dead lifts and use your pole purely for fitness, not for drops, spins, or anything BUT lifts, then don't get the pole sleeve. Also, Kiki is correct that it does increase the diameter of your pole by another size (40–> 45, 45 –> 50, etc.) I am getting a pole sleeve specifically to work on lifts, so I'll never ever have to worry about slipping. But I should have a new pole by then to pracftice spinning and static spins 🙂

MemberSeptember 13, 2013 at 7:44 pm in reply to: Is it wrong to prefer learning pole at home??I think it depends on the studio, honestly. Where I live there's only one decent studio for 400 miles. And while I love going to it, it's 50miles from me! And it's not that my instructor is bad, but this is just an example. I love my instructor to pieces, she is amazing. But I would feel more inclined to go to my studio if I had a pro at it. I learned a lot of things at pole expo this year that I haven't seen taught in any other studios (I've been to ones outside of my state as well.) Just do what works best for you.

I've seen Chinese polers do the pole switching, but normally the poles are a lot closer together. 🙂 This performance was a joy to watch live.

I agree with Katana. If you're going to bar people who have an advantage, don't segregate it to only one. If you had previous dance experience (jazz, tap, contemp, ballet, etc) then you shouldn't be allowed to enter, either. Gymnasts are the same way.
If they're less worried about experience and more worried about the stigma, I'd remind them that major competitions allow former dancers, as long as they aren't current. You can start by listing Jenyne, Pantera, and Alethea. Given that this is a studio, not the USPDA, I don't see why you should have to relinquish any adult titles. No one should force you to give up or hide something that has and will always be a major part of pole dance. If they want to ignore that, and pretend it's all about fitness, maybe your views and the studios just don't match and you can convince another studio in the area to have a showcase?

MemberSeptember 2, 2013 at 9:05 pm in reply to: Battle of the brass: X-pert vs PlatinumStages? Thanks AG! I think I will go with the x-pole in the event that I move, in that case. I'm a bad pole owner and have never adjusted my chrome 45 x-sport, and only do that when I take it down once every not-so-often, so the joints will take getting used to. I'll definitely take you up on that offer.
