My advice would be to go back to the beginner class and spend time learning the basics. You are so new and advanced so quickly. There is much more to pole than tricks. It takes time to learn the spins, grips, proper technique, and to condition your body for pole. I have done pole and started silks and it’s the same-starting over to build muscle memory takes time. Veena did a Periscope about fear. I am strong enough to do level 2 pole but spend a lot of time in level 1because i don’t want to half ass learn stuff just to say i did it, then move on. I want my spins and transitions to be pretty. I had a bad fall out of a superman 6 mos ago and now have fear. This is how i am addressing it. Don’t give up, pole is great!

Please stick with it and share your progress with us! I will be 50 in a few days and nothing is stopping me. I have recently taken up silks as well. Veena’s program is spot on and I’m sure you will do great!

hmmmm, interesting, thank you. If this was an anomaly-one badly-written piece of nonsense, I would indeed ignore it, however it is one of many and this is now a global protest against pole that is perpetuating dangerous myths. I am allergic to drama but in this case, it IS our circus and WE are the monkeys. Pole fitness/dance is the circus we love. I have zero time for this but (speaking for myself only), believe it is my duty as someone who has deeply benefited from aerial arts to step up and insert my voice because I believe it is wrong to enjoy the benefits of the sport and let others do the dirty work of providing the facts. When it gets hot in the proverbial kitchen, I choose to stay and defend my sport. Hence, I am sharing here for others who feel the same way.

A survey has been created by a non profit to assess people’s opinions of themselves and the sport of pole. It is really quick to take. I encourage everyone to take it and weigh in.

Thank you for the lecture. Obviously my instructor and I have discussed this and what I will practice. Again, my questions are: is there is a platform similar to Studioveena to SUPPLEMENT the lessons, for home review, and where can I purchase silks and rigging?

Is there mail delivery? I get all my grip aids off amazon.com. I have dry skin and find itac has worked best. Congratulations on your pole journey, it will change your life!

Mine just ended one day out of the blue with no email or warning. I had tried to check my status but could never find it. Love the site but that’s the one suggestion I would make-to make it easier to see account info, resubscribe to extend a subscription without having to email, and send reminder emails when the subscription is expiring. Thanks for a great site!

@Baudelaire, I so agree. For such a dangerous sport there should be lessons on how to fall safely. When I was figure skating it was always drilled into us to fall on our ass, don’t put hands out to break the fall because that’s how fingers, arms get broken.

Ok thanks. Just looking to start getting used to the hand positions and build strength at this point. Still need a more solid butterfly.

@Girl-exactly! My mind tells me “You fell out of that comfortable move without warning so it can happen at any time” and I have to keep countering it with “That’s not true!!”. It’s like Veena said in the Periscope-awareness is key. I think it was a combination of being tired and being distracted by other people in the class. It doesn’t mean that my body is just going to indiscriminately fail me-that doesn’t make sense.

Thanks everybody. So appreciate your stories and advice. I have a love of sports that have a danger element to them, which brings joy to my life, and normally have less fear than others, which allowed me to progress rapidly in pole, so I’m bound and determined to conquer this!

Hi Osilas! I am in RI and go to Love Pole Fitness and Aerial Arts in Bellingham. They are soooo supportive and wonderful. There are all levels of pole fitness and pole dance as well as flexibility, pole gymnastics, chair dance, belly dance, Lyra, silks. They have a Groupon currently running and always have specials. If you want to go let me know. A friend and I sometimes ride up together on sat morning. You are welcome to join us. If you want to get together to hang out and pole we can do that also but I am by no means an instructor-poling only 10 mos.
