Can someone post a link to Karol's video? I'm not sure which one everyone is talking about, and wow Michelle can shake it!

I agree to just be straightforward and tell him why the xpole is better. You can just point out to him that the peekaboo is ok for beginners who use it more as a prop to walk around and maybe do a sexy dance with no inverts but that it's not safe to use as you advance so you will need something more sturdy to accommodate you. Also, as you mentioned before you can sell your pole on craigslist or ebay so he might feel better about spending the money and just thank him for helping to get you started in something you love to do. My friend's BF did this too (Electra pole) but she's not really into poling aside from a sexy dance from time to time so it's ok for her but I definitely don't feel safe using her pole when I'm at her house. Her BF actually tried to spin on it as a joke and it went flying along with him!

If you are super nervous you can make a routine and practise without a mirror but film to see how your body moves even if you think you suck at the first viewing (I was shocked lol) keep practising and you will see your improvements and become more confident. In front of the BF do the moves you are most comfortable with or best at then distract him with a striptease once you run out of energy to pole ๐

I think if you like a song to dance to it doesn't matter who else has done it before (unless you are picking a song to dance to in uspdf lol)
Glory box by Portishead has been done a lot and someone even titled their video something like "My turn to dance to glory box"
Plus I like seeing the different styles and moves different girls do to the same song.

I'm another one all for spinny. I've been on static and don't know where to start in spin mode but would really like to.

I'm not a traveler but I would still contact the pole studios in the area where you will be in case one of the instructors might be bilingual. I see that the studio in Milan Italy has their site in english and one of the studios in Paris has instructors from different countries so you might not have to rule out classes abroad yet ๐

Ok here are my thoughts: I think it's a shame when polers feel a need to disassociate themselves with strippers. I can understand explaining the difference simply because there is a difference just the same as chinese pole and mallakhamb (indian pole gymnastics) differ from fitness pole but the disdain disappoints me. I've even seen a former exotic dancer who is an extremely skilled aerial artist now put down strippers in an interview.
I personally feel that exotic dance is the root of where pole fitness spawned from so no matter how much someone highlights the differences between the two, the correlation will always be there and it's something I personally don't mind. That is actually a part of why pole dance appeals to me. I love the fitness benefits and the other forms of creative expression that it's evolved into by taking it out of the clubs but the "darker side" works for me too. I understand many ladies here may not go to a club and perform for an audience but what about a private show for a husband or a boyfriend? Or even just a show for yourself to celebrate your own allure and appeal? Sensuality and sexuality are a part of life wether on display or not. For me, the bottom line is that we would not be here loving the pole (even for those in a purely skilled and non-sexual practise) and reaping all the benefits we do from it if it wasn't for exotic dance the same way that Tango which is said to be a dance once restricted to bordellos has become what it is today. While I'm pretty certain none of the professional tango dancers work in bordellos lol, they acknowledge the history of Tango and are not compelled to distance themselves from how it got it's start. I think fitness/expression pole dancing will be seen for what it is by the general public with time and more exposure. I feel like women should be proud to say they took an art form done by women for men and made it into something by women for women and now there are male polers becoming notable too so I guess by women for everyone!

Hey Jenni,
Montreal has lots of strip clubs with really talented girls. Maybe you can get a few other pole dancers together and arrange a performance night or a mini show at one of them. I believe one of the pole studios in Vancouver has an arrangement like that at a strip club there. I've seen some videos of it on youtube. Or get hired and quit before your 2nd performance when clothes has to start coming off lol
