I thought I was going to die when I tried the pole sit. But now I’ve been poling for about 8-9 months, and I feel like I can pole sit for days, literally. If you keep practicing, the skin on your thighs will toughen up, and it won’t hurt at all! Like right now, I haven’t been climbing consistently and I have a HUGE ouchy bruise on the top of my foot, but I know that when it goes away, It isn’t likely to happen the next time I climb. I have big legs too! (: they’re helpful for most moves!

Sorry, I read your question wrong! The permanent mount that I mentioned is optional, if you are just looking to buy the x-pole and use the dome it comes with you won’t have to drill or install anything, it’s tension mounted which is great for apartments as it won’t leave damage. As far as the floors, the base of the pole has a rubber non-slip pad attached so no worries there. (: no stud finders, or drilling! Lol

Solid slab, as in cement? If so you can put your x-pole anywhere, if you are looking to install a permanent mount, you’ll have to get a special drill bit that be used with the cement, you won’t need a stud finder at all. (:
I miss my old apartment that had cement ceilings, it was much more secure for poling than the one I’m in now.

Prince grip works great for me! Dry hands is always my preference, but prince is a good and convenient alternative considering you can get it locally from academy or any sporting goods store. (: You should definitely try it out.

Mine came with a Base, Main Pole A, Main Pole B with an X-Joint, One small extension with an X-Joint, a larger extension with an X-Joint, a dome connector, the actual dome, six of the adjustor screws, and four of the static/spinning screws, and one large and one small hex key. So, 10 pieces for the actual pole, not including screws and wrenches. Oh, and carrying bags! It’s quite a few, but it’s really secure and easy to put together when you’ve done it a few times! http://xpoleus.com/documents/files/X-Pole%20Technical%20Support/X-Pert%20instruction%20manual.pdf
If you scroll, on one of the pages it has all the parts listed (:

  • I love the word “polefessional” ! (: I’d definitely attend a Felix Cane workshop, I love her style and she’s just amazing, her flexibility really inspires me. Nicole Williams is a great poler too, and she puts a lot of passion into teaching. It really seems like she would be a good instructor, and if I ever visit ATL, the first thing I’m going to do is attend a class at her studio!

You are probably doing it right, but it takes a while for your skin to get used to gripping the pole. It felt like that at first for me too, but now I feel like I can do a pole sit for ages! It seems to be pretty painful when you start to learn a new move that works with a different area of skin. It’s going to get better with practice for sure (:

Dry hands is a fantastic grip aid, it’s sold on eBay and amazon. It will stop the sweating, and should last throughout your entire workouts! The problem will usually get better as you progress!

Rubbing alcohol works well with a stainless steel pole and brass, from what I’m told. It might be a little harsh on a finish like chrome or titanium gold. For my chrome I use white vinegar, mixed with a little bit of water to dilute it.
I think you should definitely get Veena’s lessons, they’re place in order and everything. Make sure your fully warmed up before you pole. It’s important to help prevent injuries! Some of the conditioning exercises may help with your wrist.
I’d suggest a wrist wrap over the gloves right now, (: Only because you still have to build the skin up for pole, for example I got one or two blisters when I started out, they were painful but now I have tougher skin where they were and now my hands don’t bother me at all when I pole.
Mighty Grip makes the wraps and gloves.

Welcome to SV! (: I’ve been poling since August of this year, I’m at my highest weight too, which does not feel good ): I’m poling to tone up and hopefully lose it, I think the key is consistency ! It’s awesome that you have a great studio nearby, the lessons on here are such a valuable resource as well !

SV is an interest based website, and everyone that’s active here shares a serious poling interest, and that’s what makes it pretty safe! And I think I’d feel great about meeting anyone in person that is on here. It’s totally a different feeling from the sketchy people that hang around on the usual chat sites… When I was younger and made terribly bad choices, I wanted to meet a guy and decided that I should take a knife with me, just in case anything happened, luckily nothing did and I’m not in jail right now…..! Thinking back on it as I got older, that was a sign that I shouldn’t have met up with him in the first place if I had to think twice about it like that!
Maybe it’s because we all have pictures and videos and we feel comfortable enough to share our fails and successes, it’s hard not to feel so comfortable because SV is such a super supportive community!
    I don’t blame your family for being concerned at all, they only care about your safety and there’s some seriously strange odd people on the other side of the internet, lmao. That might be the kind of things they were imagining. But I think good judgement always goes a long way, and you’ll always make the right decision when it comes to meeting up. I hope you were talking about meeee, cause I miss poling with you!!!!!! (;

It took me a while to get this one ! It’s definitely important that your body and pole is warmed up before attempting almost anything as this helps with sticking to the pole. (: It takes a lot of upper body strength to hold yourself steady, I still can’t do it as smoothly as Veena can!! As far as executing the hold, I like to make my belly touch the pole before lifting the legs and it helped me to get over the fear I had of bringing my legs up and relying on my arms to hold my body weight. You just have to try your best to keep your upper arms strong and engaged, and try your best not to extend them. What helped me with the actual hand hold is to use some grip aid, my favorite is called Prince, it’s really for tennis but it works great to prevent your hands from sweating and slipping. http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/prince-3-2-oz-grip-enhancer-plus/pid-751407?N=935653668&Ntt=prince+grip&Ntk=All
What I love is that you can find it at your local academy for 7.99 and you don’t have to pay for shipping or anything. (:

They come in all sorts of colors though and you aren’t limited by only clear ones, Pleaser has a neon collection!

I wear Ellie shoes ! And I hear it’s important to go with a brand like Ellie or Pleaser, because they are made for dancing. Regular heels won’t give you they correct support when it comes to dancing, and they might not hold up as well as dancer shoes. A lot of studio’s will require you to have an ankle strap on your shoe, so that it doesn’t come flying off on spins or inverts. If you have wide feet, like me, bottom part comes very narrow on both brands! So you might have to apply heat and it’ll stretch after a few sessions! Some people recommend getting a size larger than what you normally wear as they tend to run small, but it’s all about preference. (: also, it may help to check out some adult stores to get an idea and then buy them for a better price online! If you don’t normally wear heels, you can practice without them and when you feel comfortable wear them!
