I’m the same as AnnVann. Other than my very first 1 hour intro to pole class, I’ve always been on spin and change it to static only if I’m learning something new that is safer on static. I had read initially that spin mode required more strength and that most people that start on static have a really difficult time adjusting to spin so I just skipped straight to spin and figured it would be easier to learn static after spin! LOL And… It was! I’ve never taken a formal spin pole class I just learned on my own. I’ve never had dizzy or nausea issues but some friends of mine do. I took professional dance lessons all thru high school so I’ve learned to “spot” a pirouette very well from that training, I have no clue if that helps me or not but I just don’t focus on anything. I kinda blur out my vision if that makes sense?? It is great fun once you get comfortable with it. I at it!!!

It is very top heavy so if you don’t feel strong enough for sure get some help. Sounds like you just didn’t loosen it quite enough. You probably over tightened it the first place (natural since you don’t want to fall lol) but just keep twisting and it will become short enough to just lay right down on the floor.

I have a 40mm and absolutely love it. I have a really hard time with 50’s. And I’ve never tried a 45 but want to!

Ok this is going to sound REALLY dumb and nobody believes me until I actually show them BUT…if I use my little L wrench the wrong way it will not spin. You have to put the SHORT end in and crank it a little ways at a time (because the long end hits the floor) in order to fully release the pins. If you stick the long end in and just twist it like a screw driver the pins will come out but the pole will not spin. Swear to God… I thought my pole was broken until I figured it out.

Oooooooh…. I so so so agree. I just decided to make choreographing a routine my next challenge. I’ve tried a couple times and become so frustrated I gave up. Not this time though! I will be interested to see though if there is such a resource. Good topic!

Amen GataAgressiva!! I don’t think it’s really about changing anyone’s viewpoint. THAT would be impossible. I think a positive environment could be created though. And should be created 🙂 Thanks everyone for your opinions!!!

I agree, it WOULD be a shame, and would more than likely happen. I am reminded of a quote I read on Diana Boyle’s blog once… she stated: “An inability to watch a display of athleticism, strength, flexibility and sensuality without perceiving the dancer as an object is THEIR problem, not the dancers.”
LOVE THAT QUOTE!!! Can’t spend our lives caring what everyone else thinks… AMEN.

Would love to perform but not necessarily compete. I think the general public would be so amazed by it too. That could be the pole dancer in me talking though..lol Why haven’t one of us super awesome pole ladies started this yet?!? Hmmmm….

I just do whatever I feel like doing that day. I have tried to “schedule” practice but I always end up doing completely opposite of what I had intended. I like to do whatever I am inspired to do. Keep it real, keep it fun 🙂

I visualize way out of my range too BUT I have been forcing myself to freestyle way more often (like once a week instead of once a month) and I can really tell that it helps. It gets easier and more fluid every single time. You have to just make yourself do it to conquer the fear. You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain!!! Good luck. I expect to see a freestyle video soon 🙂
