I like it wrapped around, but as you said, it’s a matter of preference (and for me, a matter of leg grippiness too, with the whole cold weather thing and all).
I have the same problem, I can’t grab my foot in that position either, so I’m of no help there. I blame it on lack of flexibility, but if anyone has advice….. please share!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif -
Wow!! That was fantastic!! I love the way she moves!

For most people it’ll be hard to figure out on which parts of the pole they cheaped out in manufacturing. Also, you won’t have any guarantees on the quality, so you never know when parts may be run down. I’m not trying to rain on anyone’s parade, just making sure you realize that buying a fake pole can be risky in many ways.

That makes total sense! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_idea.gif Kinda like an aerial corkscrew motion, but following through to the inside with the hooking leg. Did I get that right? I hope he joins! Sounds like he may have some more cool tricks to share!
https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif I wonder if I’m flexible enough to do this…

MemberOctober 19, 2010 at 8:46 am in reply to: MW Pole Jam Attendees.. need your help with ballerinaI wasn’t at the MW pole jam, but I think I might know what you’re talking about. I use that one too. I’ll try to explain, since I won’t be on the pole until thursday.
Ok, so climb the pole and hang in a split grip position (pretty much inv. SG straight edge, but not inverted). I’ll explain it with right hand as top hand, and left as bottom. Bring your left hip&side to face the pole, legs straight, with left foot front and right foot back. This is your starting position. Now as you switch your legs to create momentum, you push of with your left (bottom) hand, and twist your body around while hanging from the right (top) hand. (You turn backward/anticlockwise). You need to make a full turn around your vertical axis. As soon as your left hip approaches the pole again, you hook your left leg. And voilà.
It kinda resembles an aerial static pretzel spin, except you spin sort of in place instead of around the pole.I hope this made some (if any) sense to you. lol, I felt my English skills crumbling with every sentence I tried to form. If you prefer to do this left hand/right leg, just do switcharoo with the left/right top/bottom and anticlockwise vs. clockwise terms.
I might be able to do a vid on thursday where I do it slowly so you have a visual. Let me know if you got it by then! Good luck!!
PS. If this wasn’t what you meant, just pretend I never said anything LOL https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Joel, that’s a great idea! Not many of us would otherwise have the opportunity to try many different sizes and finishes.
I’ve only ever tried steel and chrome. I practice on stainless steel, which is very grippy in the summer and hard to warm up in the winter. I have dry skin, especially in winter which only makes it harder to get a good practice when it’s cold. But thanks to Vaseline’s aloe vera lotion, the winters aren’t that bad anymore. All in all, I like the stainless steel poles. They are a bit scratched from heavy use, which makes them grippier than most SS poles. And I just had to figure out what works for me regarding those specific poles.
I tried chrome once, at a pole jam. I felt the chrome pole and I got along fine. So I’ll be getting a chrome x-pole in a few weeks, so I can finally start practicing at home. (Yay! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif )

Awww! Chem! You’re right, he’s so the cutest!!
I was thinking of Cooler than me as well. Didn’t Veena do a routine to that recently as well? Or was I just fantasizing pole vids again? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif -
I love the CKR as well. But CAR has never been 100% comfortable. But I’m finally making progress on the CAR. Turning in my knees helped a lot for me. For safety I have at least one hand on the pole behind my back when I lay back. If I don’t feel secure I’ll proceed to pencil/iguana type moves from there. If I do feel secure I put my hands on the floor or just release them.
Progression of moves is different for everyone. It all depends on personal strengths, prior sports/exercise experience, body type, etc.
I hear for CAR and CKR, girls with skinny legs have more probs w/ CAR, and bigger girls have more probs w/ CKR. -
These threads are about the same problem:
