MemberMay 8, 2013 at 8:34 am in reply to: My climate + skin type = pole finish confusionThanks so much for all of your replies! I've eliminated chrome and TG from my choices. I didn't like TG when I had it, and it seems that chrome is very similar and quite temperamental regarding heat and humidity. I've also eliminated brass because I'm rather clumsy and just know I'm going to dent and ding it up, I don't want to polish anything more than absolutely necessary, and I'm sensitive to smells when I have or have recently had a migraine so I don't want to smell of pennies after dancing! I'd still happily try chrome or brass given the opportunity, but I won't risk buying either as my next pole.
That leaves me with powder coated and stainless steel as my most viable options, with Lil Mynx as my company of choice for their quick set up. Because I love the StudioVeena modifications, especially the button switch from spinny to static on the base, I've decided the best pole for me to get back in the game would be the SV powder coated pole. The extra grip will surely help me to gain confidence, strength, and progress faster. From there, I can always buy a 45mm stainless Lil Mynx as a second pole if I want/need something slicker for static spins. The bases won't be the same, but I'm assuming that the roof mount would be so the two poles would be interchangeable?

AerialGypsy, I agree. All of the representatives should have the correct information to avoid confusion. I was defininitely confused, and getting concerned when there was so much differing information out there.
Thanks, Webmaster, for talking with Clive and clarifying for us. So, X-Pole is probably using a harder combination of materials to make the brass is what I'm guessing? That way it can hold to wear and tear even without a liner?

I just checked, I emailed for information @xpoleus.com. So I don't think I was talking to the Canadian side.
I want to thank everyone, too, for chiming in to help!

Yes, I contacted them through the X-Pole Canada site, so maybe I should try again through the US one. The girl who emailed me said that no, there is no steel liner whatsoever; instead, they made the walls of the brass tube a little thicker than the industry standard for more strength and that it is metal, not clay we're dealing with. Could the Canadian poles be different in this regard? If this is true and there is no liner, I wonder how even a thicker walled brass tube can hold up against the stronger, dissimilar metal of the X-joint over time.

I would love to enter, but I won't have a new pole for a couple of months – hubby's birthday is in May so my savings will go to spoiling him because he deserves that much and more. Then I will build my savings back up and it will be pole time!
Still, just wanted to give a shout out to Krissykiki for being so awesome and making people happy https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I was happy to read that the new generation of brass X Poles are better. Wow, your temperatures and humidity levels are very different from mine. Humidity is pretty dry here in the prairies (humidity in our house is between 30-50%) except in spring when we get lots more rain. Temperatures vary from one extreme to the next with the seasons so I may notice a lot of difference in grip depending on the weather.

If it turns out that I'm going to need to wear gloves for poling regardless of finish (if brass isn't going to do it for me) then I am so sold on this pole! Shipping to Canada is a lot less than I thought it would be, and there is nothing that I don't like about the pole.
Thank you for the video demo, Veena, and for the review, Saphyre!

I would have thought that brushed would wick sweat more, but I keep reading reviews of the first generation brass X-poles and their matte finish – people really didn't like them! So it looks like the new, improved mirror finish is grippier, but do sweaty hands still get that wicking effect on a shinier surface? And, for those of you that have them, how do you like the second generation of brass X-poles with the better polish?

Chem, I nearly spat tea all over my monitor when I read your post! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
Veena, I LOVE your new pole! Especially the quick switch from static to spinny and the super fast setup/removal time.
Webmaster, I also wondered about the matte surface having a wicking effect. I know for sure that my skin is acidic – jewellers always marvel at how quickly my skin can eat through even heavily plated jewellery. And I think, of your descriptions (sweaty/dry or sweaty/moist) the sweaty/moist fits my skin type best because I never need moisturizer for my body even though I live in the rather dry, Southern Alberta prairies.
When I touch chrome or TG poles, they feel wet to me although my husband swears they aren't. Does brass have more of wicking effect? And which brass poles are more matte, if that might help me more than a mirror finish?

MemberJuly 15, 2011 at 12:26 pm in reply to: Anyone have a permanent bangle? How do I protect pole?HollySatine, the jade bangles are traditionally worn for health, wealth, long life, making positive life choices, and protection. I love my medicine stone jewelry so much and have always wanted something striking for my wrists. A woman came into my work wearing the most beautiful jade bangle which she bought on a trip to China and she explained the process. I was absolutely enamored with both the jade and the idea of the bangle being pretty much permanent – I mean, there are ways to get it off but it is meant to be worn full-time.
I ordered myself a single bangle just to try it and, if I love it, I ultimately want a "sister set" from yingyujade.com that will be worn with a gold bangle between the two jade bangles on my left hand, and I want a matching gold bangle on my right hand. I'd really like to wear two jade bangles with one on each hand, but I'm worried that I'll damage the jade if worn on my dominant hand. We'll have to see how much I bang this jade bangle that I'm getting while it's on my non-dominant hand…
Having found yingyujade.com, I see that she changes her bangles fairly often and has tricks on her website so that one can remove their jade bangle without so much discomfort. I'll have to try it when mine arrives to make sure I can take it off for poling.
Moonflower, I didn't even think that with the most basic spins, my wrist lightly touches the pole, which means my bangle will indeed get in the way. I'm always mindful of working on other techniques (like remembering to point my toes or engage my shoulders) and I completely forgot where the contact points are on my arms! Thank you so much for pointing that out!
