    So close yet so far!
I'm over here in the northeast side of the state making me 5hrs away from you. Darn!

But i'm sure you'll be fine cause that's where a lot of the cool stuff for pole hides, like aeral silk/hoop/yoga and pole classes a plenty. I'm sure you'll fit right in!

My mother is deathly afraid its secret training to become a stripper. She literally thinks my teacher is a evil "pimp" and is trying to "lure" me into the stripper underworld. lol. She doesn't care too much about it otherwise, i mean, she'll ask me about it but she hates it. She prefers i do it at home if at all. I tend not to bring it up at all when i visit.

My {soon to be} mother in law is the opposite. She LOVES that i do it and thinks i'm a total bad ass. She loves hearing about it, will literally watch my daughter just so i can go to class and would totally do it if she was younger.

TiaMaria, I do the same exact thing!
My friends on facebook are very limited cause i have very little tolerance for stupidity. I have people not on my feed, blocked from my status updates, and hell, i'll delete anyone if they annoy me enough. I don't need it in my life. Either support/respect me or GTFO.

I love my facebook now cause I have all you lovely ladies on it like a little Pole Army. Makes all my other "friends" look lame. lol.

Lets be friends! Cause seriously i know how you feel.
For me dance was the thing that got me out of my bedroom when i was a teenager. I was a loner, an only child and i spent most of my life in my room dancing w/ head phones on for no one to see. My mom put me in dance class and it was the best thing she ever did. I got to do shows, meet friends, and have passion for something. I ate, slept, and breathed dance. Never missed a class and by the end i was one of the star pupils who practically ran the class. Even when the studio closed and i got older, i still came back to dance. I remember dancing randomly in the hallways in college with friends. Dance was and always will be my first love.
Now I'm going to be 28 next week. I have a 5yr old daughter, a house and a hubby. I wake up some days and I'm like Whaaaaa? I never thought i would be here and time flew past.  I'm lucky enough to be a stay at home mom but it gets really boring. I've gone back to my "hermit" ways and now that my daughter is in school I'm left with that "what now?" void. It was 3 months ago when i found pole. Pole resparked the dancer in me. It gives me the break i need during the week to do something for myself. Now I find myself choreographing pieces in my head just like i did when i was a kid. So in a way its like I get to be a kid again for one hour a week. Bonus is I got to get to know all these wonderful women on here and having that outlet is enough to keep me calmer when handling day to day situations.
To sum it up, I was without a hobby and was just doing the "mom thing" for 5yrs. Having pole now is a breath of fresh air to a weary adult soul.

I did the same thing actually.
I did twist grip thinking i was good at it and almost immediately got that shooting pain down my arm. Thinking nothing of it I kept doing it thus aggravating it more. The forearm pain lasted for days & after reading someone else's post on it from here i finally realized "hey stop doing that!". lol. So i avoid twist grip anymore but even now when i put any pressure on it remotely close to twisted grip i don't get the pain in my arm, i get it in the elbow. Still not a fun feeling and it reminds me to slow the hell down.  You live and you learn right?

I have the Floorwork one. I love it. But then again I'm obsessed with Alethea so merely watching is enjoyment enough for me. Are the moves possible? Most likely not, but they are inspiring and enough to give you some filler ideas if your style is similar to hers.

If your one of those die-hard need to learn new crazy moves pole ninjas, then pass. You'd be better off watching her via YouTube.

The "hackers" are actually a well-known group called "Anonymous". It strongly opposes internet censhorship and surveillance, and has hacked various government websites. It has also targeted major security corporations. GoDaddy got hit because they support the SOPA act and were warned to stop. I wouldn't be surprised if they attack them again until they are official shut down. There not a group to be messed with.
Good move on SV to get away from GoDaddy.

As someone who just tried and overcame their fear of a spinning pole last week, i totally know what you mean. Its a whole other world.
As Saphyre said, try doing static spins and such to get you body ready for it. Then once your tolerance is pretty nice on the static stuff start off slow, do a spin and then wait, repeat. From what i hear you get use to it and build tolerance. it takes time {like everything in pole}.
I did a whole good 45min of just normal static pole stuff before the teacher let me have a go on the spin. I'm someone who gets motion sick easy and surprisingly i wasn't to bothered by it.
I also "unspin" myself by going the opposite direction of how i spun, helps with that annoying sudden dizzy feeling. I try to "spot" as well ,like ballerina's do.

I'm with you echo, my bones grind against the hardwood floor with every floor move. Its so painful!

I watched it the whole way through. As much as it disturbs me and makes me feel sorry for the little kids, i can totally see why this is done. Its truly a cultural thing.
The parents, who are probably dirt poor to begin with, take what they have and place their kids in these people's hands to make them something. Something better then what they had. If anything its for family pride. Almost like living vicariously through there kids. Sure the methods are harsh and unethical in our mind. I even felt my heart drop and almost rage when they were forcing the boys legs to his face as he counted in pain. But, as dustbunny stated, they have the top gymnasts and acrobatics in the world. So something is obviously working.
Ironically we have our own version of that…..Dance Moms. Or how about Toddlers and Tiaras? I've watched that fat wench make kids cry just like those men, pushing them well past there limits. But we have the option to just not to be a part of it, where i imagine their culture is that you quit, you shame your family.

Have i ever experienced this kind of serious training? No. My dance teacher was about a easy going as they could get and i avoided "professional" studios because of the video like behavior. Even now, my pole teacher is the most lax person and i love it. I don't need competitions and i don't need to full fill someone else's wacky dreams.
I sure as heck wouldn't put my daughter through that either. She was in dance for 2 years and every week i would ask if its still something she wanted to do. If she said yes, we go again. As soon as she no longer seemed interested and said no, we stopped. Its all up to her what she wants to do with her hobbies and future. I merely guide the sails.
