Uh oh, it sounds like you may have been dupped into purchasing a pole that isn’t a true X-pole. I was never instructed to wipe off any polish on mine and I’ve used rubbing alcohol on my chrome X pole without any of the reactions you are describing. Did you buy it from a licensed distributor?

    Natalie,

I’m sorry to hear about your health problems, it most certainly does sound unfair and miserable https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
I think not having a diagnosis is the worst part. It’s frustrating to have doctors basically tell you they don’t know what it is and therefore can’t do anything. I have had similarly random and weird conditions before where my arms swelled up for no reason, etc, so I really do feel for you. The only advice I can give you is to actively research your symptoms on the internet and try to find answers for yourself. The health care system can fail you and the more ideas, possibilities, and knowledge you have going into the doctor’s office, the better off you are. Push for answers, ask questions whenever something doesn’t make sense, and refuse to leave without some improvement or course of action. If traditional medicine doesn’t seem to help it may be a good idea to turn to alternative medicine in a while. I myself am a bit weary of it but acupuncture has done marvels for many. My thought are with you.

I’m thinking about it…but I’m pretty intimidated because I’ve seen some of the dancers in California and they are kind of amazing!

When I don’t feel that my audience will appreciate learning that I pole dance for fitness, I say this: "I do aerial acrobatics, you know like aerial silks, trapeze, circus stuff".

I’ve done this combo before but am not the most comfortable with it. The only tip I can give you is to try to grab the pole as high up as you can before flipping into superman, if your hand is too close to your bum, it’s very difficult to hold.

For superman fall, I think of it as two steps: get into a hip hold, drop the legs into scorpio. Superman to dove is tricky, you have to either get your top arm up the pole or let your legs slide down a bit to be able to reach back (unless you have crazy back flexibility) and the twisting of the arm that reaches around is hard to figure out at first but keep in mind you are not going to reach across yourself with the second hand, it needs to grip the pole by going behind you. I say this because everyone’s first instinct is to reach across themselves to get the pole and it’s impossible! (Took me a while to get it!)

If you are getting bruises along your ribcage, that tells me you are throwing yourself into your invert instead of going upside down in a controlled manner using the abs and arm strength. You got lucky a few times and managed to hook the pole to get upside down BUT now it isn’t working because you don’t really have the strength built up yet to be able to do it consistently. Not to worry, with time your strength will increase and you’ll be inverting like no one’s business! But until you get to that point I would recommend doing some strengthening exercises and inversion preparation moves instead of throwing yourself into it and risking injury. Check out the thread titled "Am I ready for an inversion?" under pole moves in the forum, it will be at the top of the page.

That’s awesome glitter!!! Sometimes having an audience really gets you pumped up and you can do more than usual. In fact, psychology classes will tell you that if you are not good at something (or rather if you do not feel that you are good at it) you will do worse with an audience. BUT if it is a skill you excell at, you will do better with an audience! Well done!

Joel, how cool that you two got to meet!!!
