Congrats Little C! There is no magic trick to the jade, you just gotta pull on that front leg like crazy and push your back leg down as hard as you can. If it feels flat, push a little more! In all reality, doing a jade feels like doing the oversplits (at least it does for me) even though it seems like it should be fine if you can do a regular split! Pretty much if you feel like you’re about to tip over, you’re flat! Keep at it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Hi Skittles, et al. I enjoy this move and was impressed with Alethea’s. Its called chopstix. There’s a video on this site of Karol instructing someone (I think Ottersocks maybe?) how to perform this move in a variation which keeps one hand on the pole. I recently picked this move up and its the most recent video on my SV profile. I cannot get into this move as quickly or as gracefully as Alethea does, but I’m going to keep trying to improve mine and hopefully flatten it a little more.
I would just like to say that I’ve NEVER seen anyone do this move better than David. If you haven’t seen his video where he does it, go look.

Allright guys, I’m trying to figure out a way to come, I think I may be able to afford it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Sooooo, who wants to room with me??? I’ll be spending a lot of money on the flight to the east coast so I need some roomies!!!

Actually the only people whose side climbs I enjoy are Leigh and Meghan of Xpolesitions, they both have a spider-like, non stop motion to them. Here is Meghan at 2:20

BTW, this video blew my mind when I first started poling, I couldn’t figure out how she did the levitation move!
Not a fan of knee hold, knee swing (some call it cupid with the bottom foot hooked), brass monkey, apprentice, genie, wrist seat in a V (other variations can be pretty), reverse aysha with bottom arm bent, U bend/turn…
I guess I’m picky! lol, there are lots of moves I don’t find pretty and lots of way to make pretty moves look not so pretty (flexed feet, bent legs, etc)

Lol! I’ve had Veena and Webmaster in my dreams, Leigh Ann Reilly, Kira Moriss…there have probably been others but I can’t remember at the moment! And yes, I hope I was nice in your dream Azriel!

It does sound like you strained the muscle or tendon https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I had the same injury a long time ago. The bad news about muscle strains is that muscle tissue does not regenerate well and will lay down scar tissue in its place. Scar tissue is obviously less elastic and cannot contract so that area will never be the same again. It is helpful to get massage in the area in order to encourage the scar tissue to lay itself down in a more malleable way instead of forming a big bundle of tough, inelastic tissue. You want to give the muscle fibers time to repair themselves a little before you start stretching again but DO stretch gently after a couple of weeks, again we are trying to encourage the scar tissue to lay itself down in a way that it will still be workable. It’s been years since my injury and my right hamstring (which used to be my more flexible side) is still not as flexible as my left but it is definitly workable.

The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles (subscapularis, infraspinatus, supraspinatus, and teres minor) whose job is to keep the head of your humerus (armbone) inside the shoulder joint. They are small muscles that we stress a LOT on the pole so it’s imperative to strengthen those muscles regularly. If I had my way, everyone would be doing rotator cuff exercises every day. I have posted a video on youtube with the series of exercises I do for mine with a resistance band and small hand weights and I’m sure Veena has some great conditioning exercises as well. I have a labral cyst and have struggled with shoulder problems due to hypermobility and I can tell you that the exercises have made a WORLD of difference.
That being said, it is always a good idea to check in with your doctor if the problem lingers for more than a few days without improvement. Shoulder injuries are notorious for haunting you down the road so you really want to nip it in the bud and do whatever you need to in order to recover fully. That means ice, ice, ice, and….REST (the dreaded word!).
Be careful and invest the time and energy in doing those shoulder stabilizing exercises, they can trully prevent you from having to take time off the pole, which I know is what we all want https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

My body is in the best shape it has ever been in and it’s all thanks to pole! That being said, it s always good to alternate your resistance training with a cardio workout AND you don’t want to overdo it on the pole and get an overuse injury! I would recommend keeping your pole workout to 3-4 times a week MAX and do something else on the other days, some cardio for example https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Hope that helps!
