Welcome! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif 14 ft poles sound awesome. I think the ones in our studio are 12 but because of attachments with some only 2 get to use the whole space.

another good one I found helped and is a bit more fun than normal push-ups is Sun Saluations. There are tons of sites on the web that describe doing them and how to make them easier if you can’t go full out for all the parts yet.
Or my sis liked these hindu push-up things which are similar but not as many poses http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcW61Bb8uOo
Veena’s suggestion of doing push-ups on the wall is really handy for easing into push-ups then you can slowly take it down using a counter, couch, etc till your on the floor.

Instead of a Tall latte you could change one or both to a short. They don’t advertize them but they are a good size and cheaper. I don’t do well with a ton of sweet or rich foods so I can’t finish a tall soy chai but shorts are perfect. Just a thought.
I second the tea thing (non-caffinated, according to my doc will also count for h20 consumption) but then again I love my tea, nothing added, herbal or black or oolong or green or anything, hot or cold! Yum! If you’re just looking for flavor I love steeping ginger and cardamom (maybe some cinnamom if we’re going fancy) for a about 10-15 min cause it wakes you up and tastes nice and spicy! Technically I think that counts as an herbal but who cares! It’s delish!

I’m not sure if it is the same thing but when I practice my side splits by either just holding myself up as I try and go into them or with my butt to the wall and letting gravity help pull open my straddle the inside back (so if my knees were touching the back part closest to the other knee) of both my knees hurt if I hold it more than 10 seconds. The pain goes away after about 30 seconds to a min after I get out of the stretch but it is not fun (hence why my center splits are so far from the ground). It doesn’t happen on my front and back splits unless I put the back knee to the side.
For me I found that turning my knees up instead of forward helps but I know it is possible to do it with the knees forward (on at least one leg) because otherwise you wouldn’t be able to rotate between the various splits when you’re really flexible.
So I’m not much help but I am sure some of the people that know more about anatomy and such will chime in and be all sorts of useful.

I agree with Foxy about just doing it, the longer you wait the worse it gets. Although, if you have been dancing on it all 6 months you might have to do the "shock method" or use the heavy duty release tools if you have them because the dancing may have compacted (for lack of a better word) your pole more.

Drink lots of water the day of and the day before and eat pretty healthy too. My old yoga instructor was chatting about her experience with Bikram Yoga. She said if she had been at all dehydrated the day before or had been eating junk and not a lot of fresh things a few days leading up to class that she would not feel the best in her classes. It could be that her body was particularly sensitive to such things but she thought it was that the heat somewhat exacerbated what was going on with your body that you might not normally be affected by. Either way, be really hydrated.
Side note: I just realized the reason I don’t feel as flexible as I used to be unless I am really warmed up is probably because I was outside in jeans in really hot places (we’re talking average of around 115 F for most of the year, winter was a balmy 68 and I was in sweatshirts cause I was freezing) all the time so I was eternally warmed up. Maybe I should try hot yoga too. -
Ugh! I hate when that happens. I’m glad you’re getting everything fixed up though!

My Dad got the Dynaflex Powerball (probably the 80,000 rpms because he is a huge grizzly bear of a guy) for Christmas a few years ago. It takes a bit of practice to find the proper rhythm but once you get it going you better hold on tight lest if fly out of your hand. At the end you forearm and finger muscles feel so tired. It’s great.

MemberFebruary 7, 2010 at 5:07 pm in reply to: what do you say when people call it a "stripper pole"?If they say something like, "OMG, you have a stripper pole!" You could just respond intergecting "dance pole" with slight emphasis, "Yeah, I got my dance pole a while ago. It’s great exercise and quite addicting." That of course requires them to pick up on the emphasis.
Or you just go more blatent with something like "It would be a stripper pole if I was stripping on it but since I’m dancing on it, it’s a dance pole." -
Welcome back! School and life does have a way of getting in the way of pole but glad to hear you’re getting back on it.

so I don’t lean so close to the ground and I push my butt a little further through (spelled that one wrong in my other post) but this is what I described so you can see if it is what you are talking about too.
