I recommend a few classes with an instructor for proper alignment and such, but if you're comfortable checking yourself and want to try out different styles you can go to yogatoday.com. They have free hour long classes offered each week that change in style and focus (and recently added 30 min sequences that they post on their blog each week). You can also pay for a membership to access all their classes or just pay for the ones you want to download. They have a few full length ones on their youtube channel as well (scroll to some of their oldest videos) along with lots of really nice short ones. If you use itunes, they have podcasts that are from 6 to 30 min long.

I like their classes (most are filmed outside so you get pretty scenery!) and it helps you find styles you like, while introducing you to other ones you might not otherwise try. Plus when you're broke and living in the middle of the woods (that sounds kinda creepy, I swear it's not), it's convienent and cheap/free! 🙂

Just fyi for anyone going with lululemon shorts. Get the Boogie shorts, not the Boogie On shorts. Boogie On is an older style that is normally offered in just all black, but you still  seem to find them all over the place. I don't like them because they have a narrow 1" waist band that digs in rather than the 2-3" waistbands that the Boogie shorts have. Yes, it's silly to have names that similar.

I have a few different kinds of lululemon shorts. They're okay. If the pants and crops work for you then they are great, but my build isn't great for the pants or the shorts. They fit, but the pants/crops I always have to tug up after moving in them much and the shorts either ride way up both in the legs and waistband, or the fall in the waist and ride up in the legs. I got to try all sorts of styles and size cause I worked there for a while, my shape is just stubborn (yay well padded bum and little waist!). However, I know tons of people who love em. Try em on, do some squats, high kicks, etc in em (trust me, no one's gonna think you're crazy) and see how they work.

I'm still in search of good shorts. I know pole skivies and mika don't work for me. I'm eyeing the brazil shorts from bad kitty or some of the sweet vixens (I love that her manaquines are so curvy..it gives me hope that they might work out, plus the colors are fun). But, like JiggaLuv and Madfelice, I'm prob just gonna end up making my own.

Yes, it's totally normal to suck at your splits when cold. The further you get in your splits when warm, the less sucky your cold splits will be, of course thir varies person to person, but warm muscles do make a difference.

And I'm the same as you, Shellectra. If I don't stretch for a several days I get much further down than if I stretch every day. I figure maybe it's like when you taper down a workout a week or two before a competition so you can be in peak form for the comp. Maybe. I've taken to doing yoga almost every day and only really doing concentrated stretching one, maybe two times a week. Seems to be working. I'm always surprised how much I've improved in my splits without really focusing on them. Of course depending on how tough the yoga was that week (I do the free online weekly classes with YogaToday.com cause I'm poor and I like doing it when I want in the comfort of my house) I might be more sore and than others and my splits are horrible that week, but it all balances out.

I have the ones that tamikat posted. They are made with a soft fabric so they have no grip. But they are cute. Good for floor or chair routines, but not so much for pole.

@Ewa: Because our poles are not coated in rubber. You think pole burn is bad on TG or brass. Clothes are needed to keep the skin on for Chinese Pole

    Both look like good certs.

I know Vert Dance has a good rep cause it's been around a while and it's KT Coates, but some people are hesitant about the whole online thing, but based of reading it looks like they are still very careful about ensuring you have proper form and knowledge through Skype and videos and such. I like that is says it has a portion specifically about pregnancy and pole, which is a good selling point but also piece of mind for you that you know more about what to do when you encounter it or are asked for advice.

I've heard a lot of great things about ETED and if you want or need the business side of things, that's a great way to go cause Empy has a lot of knowledge and support to offer on that front. But that being said, do you really need that right now? As far as I know you're not planning on branching out on your own or being put in charge of a secondary studio for a while. And if you're thinking you want to do both the basic and advanced training, do you think you will be able to do it (time and money wise) in the following 2 years after completing the basic.

I think both programs are excellent in terms of content and reputation, but I would lean towards Vert Dance for your current situation. But then again, I don't know how other other studios and instructors view an online pole cert, so that would be interesting to know. You'd hate to go for VD only to learn it's not well regarded in the studio circuit.

@Lizzy – Bobbi's is pretty much the only one that uses Brass 38s, most of the others use 50s. I donno about the flexing issue. They don't seem to have problems, so they must have compensated for it somehow.

@sensualscimitar: It's not just you. I've always prefered the CAR over the CKR. CKR doesn't feel as secure. Granted I'm nervous about both, but significantly less so with the CAR.

Cross knee/ankle release still freak me out. I'm fine doing them but it's the going backwards upside-down that bothers me. Normal inverts no prob, but that backwards feels so much more vulnerable. And if things went wrong it near imposible to tuck and roll to safety. Honesty i think just more practice of going to, from and holding it.

Jujimufu is hilarious and actually helpful with a lot of things too.

My fav is his aerial cartwheel tutorial on youtube mainly cause his arm looks either sprained or broken and him describing things like a "ridiculous starfish" and so forth.

I think it is a fun routine. It was quite good even with the various bloopers. I like all the dynamic changes. You have good reason to be proud of your girls.

I know what you mean. I'm a swimmer but contray to most swimmers, almost all my power came from my core and legs. With pole my arms have become overall stronger and I notice I can see the viens around my shoulders and chest more. Well that combined with the fact I've moved away from sunshine and am even paler than I thought possible. Sad day.

Anyway, keep an eye on them, just in case, and if you find you are still concerned about them talk to your doc or maybe even a dermatologist. But it sounds like you should be fine. Happy poling! 😀

How regularly do you work out and how long have you been doing it? If you've work out fairly regularly with pole and didn't do much of strength and stamina building before pole, then it could just be your body adjusting to a more efficient blood flow along with the temp regulation. You said you're rather thin so you are more prone to them showning normally. If you're a pale pasty whitey like me than they'll show more then too. They typically are more prominant where the skin is thin and at your joints. I wouldn't be too concerned, but you know yourself body better but  if you're concerned, you can always talk to your doctor.
