Hi and Welcome. Hopefully you’ll be able to get a pole soon. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

I grip mostly between thighs and calves with a bit of knee sometimes they’re all twisted around but that seems to be where I feel pole burn. I get my hands out of the way or my legs a couple ways. one way is to shove your legs up the pole, once they’re on there, above your hands before you create the leg deathgrip. The other is to tighten the calves, but leave the thighs loose and slide down your hands a bit and then tighten thighs. And the last is just become strong enough to lift so the hands just end up below the thighs naturally.
But yeah, as Castle said it should be in a similar position to climbing.
Once you’re upside down maybe slide down to a handstand and practices taking one hand off the ground. then switch till you feel relatively comfortable to take both off, and then once your super comfy with that you can practice without sliding down into the handstand.

you can test your knocking with a thin nail (maybe like a picture nail). that way if you hit a stud you’ll have resistance for a long time. But if it isn’t then after a about one hit with the hammer the thing just slides in and out easily. You stil have little holes in your ceiling but its better than drill holes or big holes from wrongly placed poles.

Well at least you gave them a good laugh for the day. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif it’s good for people to laugh lots, studies show it helps extend your like (or at least make it more enjoyable) really deep laughes work your core too https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
Feet must be fragile. A friend of mine got up, went to breakfast, came back to his room and his foot was broken. I asked him if he’d been drink the night before and maybe didn’t notice, or if he kicked anything. But no, it just randomly broke.

I would love to learn poi!!!!!!! It seems so cool but difficult too. I’ll be honesty you’ll be addicted to this site. I don’t have an addictive personality in the least (too lazy, additctions, like stalking, take more work than I want to give) and I am so addicted to the site. My boyfriend jokingly tells me I have a problem. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Welcome. I think you’ve already figured out the best tip. Form. Strength and being patient so you don’t rush into anything you’re not ready for. Just enjoy the ride, don’t worry about the end (god I sound like a hippie, which is so not me).
So random, my first two thoughts when I hear Minnesota is french camp in Bemidji and Drop Dead Gorgeous (one of my fav movies). -
It might be my imagination but I was pretty sure she switched from spinning to static. You can still learn. Some moves will just be harder on a stationary pole, almost all are still doable.

Hi and Welcome. Hopefully you’ll be able to practice more in the future.
As for stength there are quite a few options. Veena has great stength training tips on this site and her youtube account (not sure if it is her that covers "pole-ups" but those are awesome. If you are at all interesting in Yoga or pilates, that is a great way to build strength and flexibility without a pole. Or when you can practice more just practicing your spins lots, on both sides, and working up to harder spins is a good way too. -
Well done for speaking up. Even if they ignore you, you know you tried. At least you won’t cringe in guilt anytime you see one being sold because you didn’t speak up.
If you didn’t mind harassing them a bit, Veena has a great article about what to look for in a quality pole. They might consider it biased because she sells x-poles but she advocates for lil mynx and platinum stages too, so that might help dispell that thought.
I was really happy to see the Love Zone near my pole studio selling Lil Mynx instead of the crappy kinds. I’m not sure if it is because our studio owner (who used lil mynx in the studio) has a deal for new students if they want to get their shoes there and so they got the same poles to up potential business. Or what, but either way I was happy to see them carrying a quality pole that won’t hurt people. -
I’m a coalface girl all the way. Angels on Bare Skin was not kind to my skin (which is weird cause everyone loves it). I love their solid shampoos (Godiva- heavenly jeasmine smell) and thier fresh face masks. Thier Volcano foot mask is great for tired sore feet too, so sometimes if I was in heels all day or just walking crap tons it feels great.
