you can try a class for free with no commitment. i usually do tues and thurs 18h-19.30h if you´d rather not go alone to try. i´ll see if i can find and forward the info the teacher sent me.
beijinhos!

i am absolutely in love with my iyengar yoga classes. we do alot of flexibility and balance stuff but also gain alot of strength and it really tones the muscles. there is alot of inversion work also. head/elbow/hand stands and others. but way before that we start with just legs in the air, shoulder stands or just hanging upsidown on these rope slings and such. i think the idea is as we are gaining strength to do more dificult stuff like the hand stands our bodies are getting used to being upsidown for longer periods of time without getting dizzy or nauseous.
i started these classes at about the same time i started regular pole classes and i find that they complement each other perfectly. when i was finally ready to start inverting in pole i had no upsidown scary issues (well exept that i cant tell my left from right upsidown, lol). i was also the first in my class to be able to invert with no momentum, even though i am the heaviest girl in class, and can be upside as long as my arms can hold out and have no trouble being relaxed and breathing.i am sure this is because of the yoga.
on the other hand i´m not supposed to be ready to do hand stands and stuff yet in yoga class but am the only one in my level who can and i know this is because of the poling.
something i find funny is that in yoga we always have flexed feet while in pole we always point. again i think this is a great complement (this might not be the right word in english?)
anyway iyengar is a great workout and i always get this 3 day high in wich i am in such a good mood i actually irritate people with my happiness!

hi!
last weekend i sprained my right clavicula (collarbone). totally unrelated to poling, just wiping down the surfaces at the bar i work at part time. this has got to be the stupidest thing that´s ever happened to me, i was just finishing that last little spot when i felt and heard a loud crack in my chest. didn´t pay very much attention to it but the next day i could barely get out of bed and could barely move my arm. the pain kept getting worse and i couldn´t even touch the bone it hurt so much so i went to the hospital and got x-rayed.
so it´s been a week of total rest and sheer boredom, anti-inflamatories and lots of ice. i´m not hurting anymore and can move my arm in all directions again.the bone seems to be back in place although i can feel a little bump on the end near my sternum. but am i well enough to go to pole class on thursday? i´m scared i might pop it out again but i really don´t want to miss another class if i don´t have to. does anyone know how long this really takes to heal to be safe on the pole?
and sorry to hijack this thread.
by the way what helped me alot with my back was iyengar yoga.
thanks!hugs!

i suffered for years. at first it would only happen 2 or three times a year but it eventually got to the point where the muscle would just freeze up by even the simplest movements, or if the weather changed or whenever it felt like it. the pain was excruciating and i wouldnt be able to move my arm or head for days, somtimes i couldnt even hold up my head anymore and would just have to lay down until the worst would past. i don´t mean to scare you, just alert you that unless you take it seriously and do some preventive stuff it will happen again and may become worse.
in my case i had an underlying problem with my cervical vertabrae that was forcing the trapezium to overwork itself, plus i always carried around too much weight (heavy backpacks, shopping bags, beer crates) and i was going through a very stressfull time in my life. stress is really bad for your back and neck muscles. my trapezium felt like a rock.
good news is exercise is good! it can become a vicious cycle if you don´t use the muscle. because of the pain i ended up using it less and less wich just made it weaker which then made it more prone to seizing up.get an x-ray to eliminate any spinal injuries. always warm up really well. exercise but dont overdo it, a fisio-therapist would be the best person to give you the best exercises. get a good massage regurly. relax and avoid stress. avoid carrying weight on just one side(ex: big heavy shoulder bags).dont eat junk food (bad bad toxins) and drink lots of water. dont give up pole dancing.
pole dance actually made me feel better, it works all the muscles in your back making them stronger and if its something you love it will have a relaxing effect. of course if you feel the knife starting to stick in your back or your sore from your last pole workout, rest for a few days. ice helps alot also when the muscle first seizes up 10min 4-5 x a day.sorry for the really long post!
good luck and get well soon! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif frida https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif -

hi,
there are lots of different kinds of hip rolls but i can give you an idea how to do a basic one, although i´m not sure i can write a description that you´ll actually understand. but, here goes:1st stand up straight but with your knees slightly bent feet under your shoulders. then straighten one knee and pop your hip on that side up. the other knee stays bent (and you can even bend it slightly more to give extra emphase to the opposite hip). next, lower your popped up hip bending your knee and straightening the opossite leg to pop that hip up. alternate sides until you get your legs and hips all coordinated.
2nd, in the same initial position bring your pelvis forward, then do the oppostite movement by pushing your butt back and up. alternate untill you get that smoothly.
3rd, put it all together. isolate the moves in a circle. 1pelvis front 2pop right hip 3butt back and up 4pop left hip – and then back to 1234 1234….
dont be afraid to really exagerate each move at the beginning untill you get a nice smooth roll going. remember to keep your torso vertical and concentrate on the hips and knees (the knees are actually doing all the work here) but dont bend your knees too much, that looks awful!and as you get better try to make the roll smaller and smaller, its much more sexy!
oh and then do it all going the other way!you might also try contacting jennifer of pole skivvies: http://poleskivvies.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
she used to be a professional belly dancer and incorporates it into her pole dancing. she´s got a few cool tutorials on the subject in her blog. one of them is on infinity hip rolls wich you will surley find very interesting.hope this helps, good luck!

when i first started lurking on this site it seemed as if all the girls were in their early 20´s, and when i got up the nerve to introduce myself and participate in the forum i just wanted to fit in. i certainly don´t look or feel my age(well, yeah i have more aches and pains and am a bit stiffer, but ). i´m very energetic and have great skin so if i´ve slept well most people think i´m 29/30. i date younger guys and mostly hang out with younger people because the ones my age are generaly realy old and boring (couch potatoes).
anyway more and more older women have become members and everyone is so supportive and special and talented so now i just feel stupid about the whole thing. for months ive been wanting to confess…so on my profile where it says 28 just add on another 10 yrs.
and thanks lilbit because you are an inspiration to not only us poledancers but also to women in general!!!!
truly sorry, hope you all will forgive my foolishness.
