I learned on Stainless, now have a chrome x-pole. I have very dry hands and I slip a lot. In the beginning I didn’t want to use grip aid, but I finally caved and tried just a bit and it helped me SO much. There are days when it is cold and dry and I can’t put enough grip aid on https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif (very frustrating) I have been considering selling my chrome for the TG. I’ve used brass once and was amazed my its grippyness; I felt much safer too.

as a side note, I did recommend Veena’s lessons as well, but I also thought it would be very helpful for her to be at a studio and see and interact with instructors. She is very athletic, but has some previous injuries and such so this will be a great start for her.
Good karma to you Tine…that was above and beyond https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Hi! I have *not* had a hyst., but have just had an appendectomy. (not the same of course) I have also had a c-sect. and another abdominal surgery previous to my poling. I would imagine the main thing is whether or not you are having a vaginal surgery or abdominal. And if abdominal if it will be laproscopical? If you don’t have abdominal incisions you probably will be able to get back to poling much earlier. Take time to heal and rest and take it slow at first. I have 3 incisions right now in my belly and they told me a month before I could do any ab work. So, I’ve been just walking, will add weights this week and maybe try poling in the next week or week and a half. Your body will tell you what it is ready for and just take it slow. While I can’t do much fancy polework, I am going to begin with concentrating on floor work, dancing around my pole, turns, etc. Some things I sometimes don’t focus on.
I hope this helps! Good luck with your surgery…I can’t imagine how much better you will feel when you don’t have those fibroids to deal with!
Take care!

I don’t have any great advice, but I just wanted to say you aren’t alone with the whole "fear" thing. I have had no issues being able to invert at the studio and when at home I do fine until I am wearing pole shoes. My pole is on carpet and I just do not feel secure walking in my pole shoes on the plush carpet and I know it messes with my head. On top of that I poled with my studio at a bar about 3wks ago. Did a chopper fine, then tried to do a basic invert, heard that damn voice in my head worry about trying it in the taller shoes I’m not used to wearing and bam I missed a basic freaking invert!? In front of a crowd no less, so I took a deep breathe and went to attempt it again and of course missed again. So now as you can imagine my pole ego has taken quite a hit… I just wanted to say that I understand how things can mess with your head. Maybe it is just a matter of time? If you feel comfortable go ahead with the next level and if you are struggling, speak to your instructor. You can always move back down if it isn’t working out. Take it easy on yourself. I hope this helps!?!

Have fun everyone!!! I am so bummed that I can’t be there, but I HAVE to be in Chicago this weekend…keep wondering if I should feign illness or something so that I can come. boo! Have a blast and hopefully many of us mid-westerners can meet up again! I am also in the Twin Cities and would love to meet others involved in poling.
Much love!
