I just wanted to say thank you for posting this. I've been struggling badly with similar issues…sometimes I even wonder if I'm trying to be something I'm not with poling. I LOVE the sexyness, strength, confidence and all that. Buuuuut…I never look on my video camera the way I feel in my heart or look in my mind. Does that even make sense? I hate even admitting that I struggle with this. grrr.

I agree with most of what has already been said, but I chuckled to myself reading this cause I find that I am SO focused on the music, moves, timing, guaging the pole for slipperyness, hair flipping, making sure my boob isn't falling out, and of course pointing my toes, that my facial expression on practice videos is horrid! LOL I've decided I'm gonna rock my sexy grimace for now. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif

MemberApril 20, 2012 at 10:25 pm in reply to: Why did you start pole dancing? Is it the same reason you continued?I started pole dancing a few years ago. My first time was at a party organized for my local mom's group (not your average mom's group https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif) at a local studio. I always LOVED dancing, love music, and the senuality and sometimes erotic aspects of dance. I had just had a terribly difficult 3rd pregnancy and really lost myself and my self image in the duration of what was a very "medicalized" (is that a word?) pregnancy and also some surgeries. I was also very overweight and had started pushing myself hard to lose the weight and be the me I was on the inside. I LOVED pole dance–dancing sexy, wiggling around on the floor, body waves, hip circles. AND the SHOES!!!! My first pair were 6.5in light up ones and I still adore them. Then I found pole dancing on youtube and saw TaraKarina do a caterpillar climb! I thought "holy shit, that is my dream"–it was SO sexy, SO strong, SO DIFFERENT!
Pole has brought so many unexpected things–I much more "colorful" now, I have amazing friends I adore, I truly do this for myself…BUT I always try to remind myself of why I went to that first party, cause in the end–I really just want to dance to the music I love, feel incredibly sexy, and every once in awhile I defy gravity. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I'll be at the jam and my husband is going with me to the showcase 🙂 Looking forward to it!!!

The video is optional! If I go in, it usually pretty brief–kids can sense when I enter the chat room…"MOOOOOOOOmmmmm!!!" LOL

I don't thing you could possibly get the level of instruction, attention, and safety as a pole studio teaching under 10 students. If I were an instructor at a studio like that I would feel extremely uncomfortable with that many students. For cardio/conditioning, very basic pole, or parties, it would most likely be fine. But then the studio should limit enrollement for more experienced students. Just my opinion.

Any big power moves out from the pole are much more difficult the taller you are. Similar to gymnastics, many of the elite level dancers are petite. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

MemberMarch 5, 2012 at 11:07 pm in reply to: What do you ladies think of this new x-stage/star stand alone comparison that just came out? They looked very cautious on those poles…I didn't see any big spins or impressive extensions that would have really let the pole stability or lack there of shine. I've used both, ssa felt cheap, xstage feels much more stabile. Plastic may be warmer than metal, but its plastic. I thought the intro to the video was laughable as it obviously was not intended to be fully unbiased. "REAL" *rolls eyes*

Oh I bet you'll love it! I love 45's! I am going to powder coat a pipe and make an outdoor pole this summer hopefully 🙂

I've also wondered if mine is too tight, because when I spin it with my hand it goes a quarter turn and then comes back. When I do take mine down it has always left a deep mark in the carpet. I have had poles slip on me too, so its hard to know when its tight enough but not too tight. I've never taken it down to let the ceiling settle…not heard that before.

The strength and conditioning lessons here have helped me so much! I do them all the time–as well as the stretching routines/lessons. They are effective and taught safely–not all you find on youtube are safe. There is a lot of room for injury in flexibility training.
