This is a very interesting discussion–I lost nearly 50lbs almost 3yrs ago. I am not yet where I want to be weight wise. I have been trying to push myself harder with training. Pole 3 days/wk and workout videos on my off pole days (usually Jillian Michaels Shred or Ripped which does cardio, strength, core intervals). I was thinking of taking up running, but this def. has me wondering if that is the right step. I've platued hard where I am right now.
Minicoopergirl–keep at it! I too have 3 young kids and its doable! I can't get to gyms and such cause that always ate up too much time, but after the kids go to bed I don't do anything till the workout is done. Also I find that writing down every single calorie while neaurotic, does help SO much. Good luck!

Wow–Ottersocks, that class sounds amazing! I also have read on SV to practice sequences of a few moves and transitions that become second nature to you. I am such a novice at this too, and I just started experimenting with spin mode and I feel like that is a whole nother world right now! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif I think we all have our own styles too. I am more into dance and movement with a few tricks at most, and some rock out badass tricks, etc. Its all good…have fun!

Heeelp!your best bet (and it sounds like what you are doing) is get a feel for the style of the troupe…are they old style burlesque or do they use newer music/themes as well? Go big with your theme/character, and since they aren't polers keep your tricks simple and playful. Now work on your tassle twirling in CAR! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif
Enjoy yourself and love every inch of you–thats my fav thing about Burly girls! Tease Tease Tease and props! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Allegra–I can do it, but it hurts so bad I bail everytime I feel the pole digging into my lower back/ribs. 🙁

@scarlethoney—Veena's Scorpio Handstand lesson is that move you referenced with Alethea's video I think? She shows how to spin out of the handstand. 🙂
I have quite a few to master yet, so I'm good for now! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I would also say don't rush it! Take your time polishing moves as you get them and don't forget to dance with what you've got–so many of my favorite dances aren't the tricked out ones, some are really simple and evocative. If I could go back I would have gotten down dance basics more and really focused on flow. I would have done spin mode, because so much of what is done on spin are simple holds and you gain a lot of strength doing those (as I am just finding out now)…I also would have focused on sretching more. Good luck and enjoy yourself! Also if you don't have Veena's lessons yet, they help me tremendously (the strength routine was huge for me).

yep that is right where mine happens too…on the outside, but I think tight muscles in different parts of the leg can cause this. I need to roll stretch and then if it starts happening, roll some more and hopefully it will help.
I look forward to following this thread and seeing if there are any other suggestions as well.
