I stopped going for two reasons– it was a 70-mile drive one-way to get to the nearest studio and the studio started hiring male teachers who had no idea how difficult it can be to build upper body strength. It's very frustrating when they don't know how to teach the moves because they can just do them naturally. There also was not as much a focus on doing things safely as I would like. However, that studio is very successful and has opened a second location, so I might be an odd one for not liking the direction it was going.

I can't do any unassisted pull-ups yet, but I've been working on it since March. (I took some time off pole to develop more upper body strength so I can be safer.) When I went back to pole class this week, I realized that even though I can't yet do a pull-up from a dead hang, the work I've done toward that goal has really paid off for pole strength! (I'm still beginner level– can't invert safely yet.)

I've had it for 8 months and I've cleaned it with alcohol and windex, but it's so slippery that I haven't used it very much. I'll have to wash it really well when I get home next week and see if that's the problem! (It's an X-Pole X-Pert in chrome.)

Thank you so much for this awesome thread! I've been poling since July and trying to invert since November. Luckily, I've had little success (since my instructor has been allowing me to kick up.) Now I know I have to get stronger and work on doing it right.
