CKR is my favorite “go to” move… Make sure you’re not too far above the knee as your contact point. Definitely start by holding your foot on the bent knee–and try switching knees! I find one a more comfortable hold than the other.

I dream about poling now and then…lately it was managing the Butterfly which I had been struggling with. And guess what?? A few weeks later I nailed it. Its your minds way of working stuff out. 🙂

She’s amazing…definitely puts me to shame. 🙂 I would totally share her video to fb if it weren’t for the risk of someone with the wrong intentions. She is a great example of what sheer strength and ability it takes to pole is…nothing dirty or sexualized about her routine at all. I hope she has a great time of poling ahead of her!!

    A controlled invert.
    Chopper.
Butterfly. (I cannot keep my top hand in the right position for the split grip hold!)
And the pendulum..to name a few.

I tell most people I take a yoga/pilates/dance class. If they insist-then I tell them its pole. But I expound on the fact that its the dance, and the strength (and the sisterhood of my classes) that is what we’re after. And once you show them a small move that demonstrates a bit of that strength–I’ve never had a person look down upon me. My whole family knows. 🙂 my mom proudly tells people I do it for fitness and I enjoy it!

Congratulations!! I’ve just started the exercises for that-and goodness knows I need the inspiration to know it can happen. 🙂

I’m 180 lbs myself…and I only stand 5’3″. Granted I carry it pretty well-I’m busty and thick in the booty, but still. I just keep working at the strength…and even my classmates will tell ya I can still make things look sexy. You’ve gotta be comfortable in your own skin. Keep at it!! 🙂

The best answer is stop! Never compare–there’s only one of you in the whole world. I’m a curvy, definitely overweight poler so it takes me more time to learn things. Just tell your self “I am presently struggling with _____” and set your own goals in your mind. Keep practicing at home and celebrate what you CAN do! My one favorite thing to do with the ladies in my class who can do amazing things is ask them for advice. Sometimes it takes a different perspective to find the mechanics of a move. We also have a gal who “came back” a few levels because she was struggling with the pace of her class. It might have been a point of pride to do it at first-but she’s right along with us now and can do some awesome things! Keep workin’… 🙂

Stay with it! When I started it for fun and fitness I was so psyched. Then came climbing and I told myself “ill never be able to climb more than one”. In time…it happened. Same thing when it came to inverts, crucifixes, etc. It seems daunting, but keep working and slowly but surely the strength builds. Remember-everyone develops at a different pace, and depending on your own body (I’m a curvy gal..heavy by pole standards). Some moves will be more/less difficult. But finally nailing a move is an ultimate reward!! 🙂

Oh sure…bruising can come simply from over-extending the area, anything that can cause damage to the blood vessels. It most often is caused from over gripping…keeping you too close to the pole.

  • What are you asking for this pole and is it still available?
