you must have been lucky, the most I've ever seen in 9 pole in a workshop and that was 3 to a pole. Max no. of poles in a class I've seen is 6 but most of the time it's been 4

oh also I don't think you should charge less just because there are 2 per pole.
Why don't you ask the students whats wrong if you think they look unhappy? If you haven't asked, you ever know it could be a completely separate issue that is making them feel like that. If you don't want to ask them straight up, why not make little feedback forms and get everyone to tick a few boxes at the end of the session? Let them do it anonymously. You won't know until you ask 🙂

Ideally I'd say do another class if you can but if thats not possible I don't see that 2 per pole is a problem. In fact I think pretty much every workshop and class I've ever been too, has been 2 per pole unless it wasn't busy that particular session – which was just lucky for me!
Perhaps the students feel disgruntled by the fact they're suddenly having to share after being used to having the pole to themselves, so I'd suggest making a conscious effort to go round to each student, try and make sure they're 'getting' a move each lesson. If they're coming away from a class thinking nothing has clicked or they havent made progress, they might think it's to do with not having the pole to themselves, which isn't normally the case. Make sure people don't stand around talking too much either. I've seen it a number of times where people stand around chatting to their pole partner and not actually practicing, then wondering why they're not progressing. This could be another thing they could blame on the 2 per pole situation.
Whenever I go to a class I expect 2 per pole so if it's only one, thats a bonus. I did go to a workshop where it was 3 per pole but that was too much so I won't be going back there again! Maybe do some research in seeing what the other classes nearby are offering. Are they doing only 1 per pole?
At the end of the day, if people take it in turns, make the most out f the time they DO have one the pole and help each other when you're helping someone else, they shouldn't see it as a problem.
Sometimes it can even be helpful being with someone else so you can share tips if one of you can get the move that the other can't and the teacher is helping another student

MemberSeptember 4, 2011 at 4:24 am in reply to: handstands/elbowstands/iguana – flexibility issue?Remember for iguana mount you need some flexibility in your shoulders to enable you to manouver you hips around to find the right position to go up. Are you trying to deadlift into an iguana? If so, I found getting into the arm position, then having your feet fairly wide apart and not too close to the your head was a bit easier for me as oppose to having my legs together and then trying to lift either with straight legs or in a crunch…. If that makes sense!
Basically I can nearly put my chest on the floor in straddle position and can go no where near as far down in pike position. If you think about, this is effectively the same position you’ll be doing but upside down and standing up & with your arms back 🙂
Also I can’t deadlift into a handstand or really into a headstand either but I can deadloft iguana everytime. As you say if your worried about it, your hands will sweat. I also think I look down at the floor when I iguana
Mount, this seems to make me feel more in control as I know where I’m going, where as looking back at my feet makes me feel like if I fall, I won’t see it coming! -
I believe pole move box had a stall at a competition I went to see and they dont have any additional tips or info about each move on the card – I think it is literally just the name and a picture. I thought it was some kind of joke price they were so expensive – seriously…. £180 for something I could effectively make myself…..
In fact with good pole resources online (mainly YT, http://www.poledancecommunity.co.uk) I might just do that! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
Vertical dance is good but there aren't many moves on it and wikipole has a lot of broken links and much of the site doesn't seem to work…. which is a shame as there is great potential there! On wikipole.org they do have a bit that gives you info about which moves you can transition in to/out of which is helpful
Let us know if you find any other good move directories https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

thanks for all the tips so far girls… they sound really helpful so I will try the today and let you know how it goes!
The reason I don't have Veenas lessons is not because of the money, its because my pole is in the garage and I can't get internet connection in there so I can't watch them when I'm poling. Unless you can buy them then watch them offline??

MemberMay 15, 2011 at 3:48 am in reply to: Anyone achieved splits success from scratch?Like a lot of you, I too am after that wonderful thing we call the splits!
I know there’s a thread of current split success but it was started 2 years ago so I’m curious as to who has achieved their goal?
I an about 2 inches away on one side of my front splits but the final inches seem to be the hardest. I’m about 5/6 inches on the left side and about a foot from the ground on my side splits (a bit less after a 2 hr practice)
so who has achieved a good, full split, front or side( or both!) from scratch?
From scratch I mean you started stretching when you found pole as an adult, having no previous experience in something that massively helped in flexibility. I mean I did ballet for a few terms when I was 5, gymnastics for a couple of terms when I was 8 and modern dance when i was 10 but there were all just for fun and I can safely say I didn’t do them long enough or intensely enough to make any difference (wishing I had kept them up now but hey i didnt now I’d be pole dancing a few years down the line! Haha )
if you have gained complete split success do let us know! Perhaps show some before and after pics and share your stretching techqniues 🙂

MemberMay 13, 2011 at 3:58 am in reply to: x pole – no replies? Getting really frustratedthat is a shame you guys have had problems with x-pole as they're customer care was spot on when I had issues with the DVD that comes with the x-pole https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
Have you tried ringing them directly? It's no use waiting for a company to reply if they havent got back to you within 2 weeks because if they haven't replied by then… chances are they wont at all, as the email will be lost amongst old emails, replaced by new ones and never read again.
I would contact them until you get an answer, even if you have to email every other day! Seriously it does work, you should also tell them that you're having issues with getting a reply. I had the same problem with a totally unrelated company, faulty product, no reply to emails, could never get through on the phone so I sent them the emails again and again until they have to top ignoring me. I mentioned that their customer care had been appalling, told them how many times I tried to contact them and that I would appreciate a reply… they got back to me (surprise surprise!) sometimes it just takes a few words so they know you mean business https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

sorry to repeat this if someone has already mentioned it, but when I was first learning the reverse grab I found twisting your body back towards to pole slightly and arching your back when you're going back in to grab the pole after you've swung round helped keep the momentum. Also trying to master each part of the move then putting hem all together afterwards, so I practiced the initial 'swing' and tried to master that before going in for the 'grab'

MemberFebruary 26, 2011 at 4:58 am in reply to: Pole instructor audition…at a strip club??????You're gut feeling is telling you to be wary of this situation and deep down, no matter what our heads are telling us at the time, gut feelings never fail us
If they are running a professional business, forgetting to pass important info on such as a this is absolutely no excuse. I run my own business and I can tell you now that you can spot people who are inefficient and not serious a mile away…. and it seems like thats what you've done. They should have told you in the first place, end of story. The fact that they didn't suggests that they don't know what they're doing. I can appreciate that people start these things if with little experience, everyone has to start somewhere, but forgetting such a simple thing? It's not a difficult task. For a start, they haven't exactly promoted their business very well… they've even put potential employee's off!
If their being this inefficient before you've even started working for them, what are they going to be like when it comes to payday? Or having days off?
I would let this one go and consider it an experience to learn from. If it's something you really want to do, write to every different pole school nearby that you can and ask if they are in need of an instructor. Sometimes you need to go looking for jobs as they don't always come looking for you https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
