Just thought it was quite useful for the timings of how long to hold each stretch. Are you going to the Becca Butcher class on thurs with Pjnk ladies? Sure I saw your name on the facebook page? x

I love Marlos pole work. Hope she comes to the UK. Think she is so underrated… go Marlo!

I bet I know which instructor on YT your talking about!!
If it is the same one, as you said her floor work and beginner spins look really nice. By flinging herself up, she makes inverting look so much harder needs to be. It wasnt until after I could invert did I see her basic invert tutorial and think…. Ok, that surely is not how you should be teaching people?! I'm not a teacher but you get a bad feeling sometimes don't you..
She flung herself up with such force I could almost feel her shoulder muscles screaming out and tearing at the force. It literally made me cringe. It was so badly done and I was shocked that she was a teacher after that.
As you girls have said, so many people have jumped on the bandwagon because pole dancing is becoming the new cool thing to do. As with anything, as soon as it gets mainstream people start to ruin it 🙁 As long as we stay strong and do it properly then there is still hope! 😀

love that! What a cool idea 😀

I have my home pole in the garage and also sometimes get worried about falling on my head onto the (concrete) floor!
So what I do is take the sofa apart and put the big foam bits that make up the seat and back of the sofa under the pole and learn new tricks with them under me until I can do the moves confidently.
This enables me to feel safe and if I did fall, I'd be falling onto many inches of foam!
I find that this is also more effective than just taking off the cushions because with so many small cushions if I get excited about a new move and do a victory dance I trip up!!! haha https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cool.gif

I saw some nasty comments on one of alethea's videos. Her style of dance is sexy…. but so what? She is wonderfully strong and always executes the moves perfectly in every video of hers that I've seen. On that video with the nasty comment, personally I think that it was the camera work that made it look sleazy which is why people seem to get the wrong idea. I can't remember which performance it was, which ever championships were shown on a swiss sports channel I think….. Anyway the camera work was absolutely appalling, particularly for a sports event. Throughout the whole performance he (and I'm assuming it was a he for obvious reasons!?!) was just zooming in and out of her nether regions the entire time. It was a disgusting way to film a performance. Did exactly the same for when Felix performed. It's no wonder people think its sleazy when it is filmed like a porno. I was hugely disappointed by such rubbish filming as most of the time you couldn't even see the moves they were doing. Such a shame that a crap cameraman has been allowed to ruin beautiful girls beautiful performances
They wouldn't zoom in and out of a ballet dancers lady garden when they're doing the splits so it's about time they stopped doing it to polers!

MemberJanuary 2, 2011 at 5:30 pm in reply to: Do you tell other people that you pole dance?– I didn't have time to read through all the post so hopefully I'm not repeating what someone else has said. I like to use the term pole "fitness". Especially around people who do not yet understand what it is all about. If they say "oh, pole DANCING". I quickly say "NO pole FITNESS". Some people will never get it though! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

I often say pole fitness too and then when people know more about it I start saying pole dancing as they then know thats it's not what they might think of initially at the mention of pole dancing.
Maybe you should talk to your mum and ask her why she doesn't want your dad to find out? I felt a bit weird about it at first because of the stigma that is attached to it but my family were very accepting and were amazed at some of the moves I could do when I showed them 😀
It's actually my mum that corrects people by saying "it's fitness, pole fitness!" when someone says I pole dance which I find quite funny! lol
To convince anyone that pole does not have be anything to do with "bumping and grinding" I just show them videos of people like Jenyne Butterfly and Zoroya Judd. They're soon convinced it's not always what they first thought!
I tell everyone now, I couldn't care less if they think it's just stripping…. I'll happily show them what its really all about for me!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I think it depends from person to person – I struggle with elbow grips and the caterpillar but love my split grips and butterflies. In the classes I went to they taught the girls to do a closed version of the butterfly first and then as you get more secure and stronger with your split grip and butterfly leg positions you are able to progress to a full split grip and butterfly. I had already taught myself the butterfly and actually found the closed version harder but the other girls thought closed was easiest a first so again it tends to vary for each person
I’ve never seen a picture of the closed butterfly so I will try and take one for you later so you can see what I mean https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
