Great idea 🙂 could either use words, i.e. names of the poses/moves etc. – or pictures – or both. Years ago I saw a system for choreographing ballet moves which was done on rows of parallel lines (a bit like a music score) can’t renember what it was called though.

I have been using Zoraya’s gripgloves, but now the weather in Perth is warming up, I am finding that my hands get sweaty inside the gloves so I end up slipping. Am going to try out various products (tite grip, dry hands, itac, shave cream, etc to see what works best.

Age is just a number! I was over 50 when I started my pole journey, having done zero exercise for years. No way am I giving up pole – it’s way too much fun. I plan to keep poling for as long as I can.

I echo what everyone else has said 🙂 I started with zero strength, and now my instructors are telling me “you are strong enough to do this”. Another thought – can you try a different instructor? I’ve had the experience of walking out in tears after lessons with one instructor at the studio I go to. Now I just won’t go to her classes. Luckily there are other instructors I can learn from, and I nearly always come out smiling after their lessons.

I have been poling for about 2.5 years. I did a 6 week silks course about 3 months ago. For me, I am glad I had experience on spinny pole as I think that helped me cope with the silks spinning around 😉 I struggled with getting the silks to behave, but I gained *lots* of upper body strength from silks. I sucked at doing the knots and foot locks but didn’t have a problem with inverting 😉 i want to try Lyra too, though I’ve seen the damage it can di to your hands!

Take up Pilates 🙂 i started doing Pilates a few months ago….my instructor is always saying to us “motion is lotion” – in other words, you have to keep your joints moving in order to keep them lubricated and prevent them from stiffening up.

….and I second what HotelChick said. I am a survivor of abuse, still learning to live in my body (rather than in my head, with my body being a separate thing)

I have suffered from depression since my mid-teens, if not earlier (i am now 56.) I started poling after a particularly bad bout of depression. After I got through it, I decided I would take up poling (something I had wanted to try for several years, after I saw a demo of it, when I thought it looked like fun). Poling has changed my life for the better! The music part definitely helps.

Of course you can! I started my pole journey in my 50’s. As a result of poling, I have become interested in other similar forms of exercise, as well as nutrition, to help me to be a better poler. There is a group on Facebook for us older ladies “The Grand Dames”. The pole community is very supportive, and I have made lots of pole friends on my journey. Go for it! It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done!

I hate that “measure yourself and add 5″” thing, which I’ve never understood That method may work for some, but not for me! According to that method, i think i come out as 36D but my correct size is 30GG or 32G (possibly because i have a very narrow back.)

I am a UK size 30GG/32G. I have a few sports bras which are OK but a bit uniboob. The name escapes me for the moment. I recently discovered Cleo by Panache – they make moulded cup T shirt style bras which I now wear for pole, under a Supre crop top, but these bras would be perfectly OK to wear on their own in a class. No spillage/wardrobe malfunctions! For our end of term performance I bought a similar bra from Target, but as they don’t do my size, I went up several back sizes to get a cup size that fitted, then shortened the “underband” to fit, which worked OK.

Has anyone had a private with Zoraya? From memory, I think I paid $215 Australian dollars, and $85 for a workshop (but I would’ve paid whatever it cost!)
I’ve also had privates with a studio in Perth, Australia where I live. I think they are $95 (after a recent price rise) but they also offer a block of 5 to be used in a 6 month period) which works out cheaper, at $75. Bobbi’s in Perth charges $135 (and I think $150 for Kim who is Bobbi’s sister).
