Great topic! I have been considering learning silks, which they teach at the studio I used to go to, but had to go elsewhere as they don't schedule their advanced pole classes at a time that suits me. The girls at the studio told me that it's great for upper body strength (which I need!), so I still might give it a go.

So sorry to hear this Tarah, what a shock it must've been. Sending you hugs and positive vibes x

Hi, I'm another one with depression. I have a family history of it (there have been 2 suicides in my paternal line, and probably a lot of undiagnosed depression as well).
Right now I'm trying to deal with having extreme difficulty waking up in the mornings (not as trivial as it sounds). So no, you're not alone.
I'm currently on Pristiq 100mg. Prior to that I was on Lexapro. Pristiq seems to work fine for me most of the time.
My depression seems to get worse in winter, and coming up to Christmas. I've had several bouts of feeling suicidal over the years, and have had psychiatric treatment, hypnotherapy, and counselling at various times, to help me deal with things.

Not sure if the hospital Doctor knew I was doing pole when I fell. I have a slight headache and a stiff neck, but am OK apart from that. I have a pole at home but it's not in a place where I can use it at the moment.
My husband and my Mother want me to give up pole, but I don't want to – I love it too much and I can't face having to give it up.
I think maybe I will go back and re-do the beginner moves etc. and try to build up some more strength, and get my confidence back. I want to go back to classes (I'm currently doing Intermediate 1 and 2, so maybe I will finish this term of Intermediate 2, then go back to Intermediate 1 and stay with that for a while.

Hi, I'v just had my first "bad" fall from a pole….knocked myself unconscious. Was in a pole class and just slipped and landed on my head – ouch! My memory of the event is a bit shaky, but I think I was doing the move where you are facing the pole, one hand above your torso, and the other directly under your "booty" with thumb facing upwards, and legs spread out in a "V", with your tush/things up against the pole. I suspect that I had the wrong kind of shorts on, which didn't allow proper skin contact, which is probably why I slipped.
The studio called my husband who collected me & took me to accident & emergency at the hospital to get myself checked over, but I wasn't admitted to hospital, just got checked out by a doctor.
Turns out my husband doesn't like me doing pole ('cos it can be dangerous and I could hurt myself) but I've told him it's non-negotiable.
Now I'm not sure what to do…should I go back to beginner lessons and start again, or just "get back on the horse" so to speak, and carry on from where I am? Advice, please…..

Hi ladies
I have the same problem – I'm a 30GG or 32G. Most pole wear tops I see would do absolutely nothing for my boobs. Having a very narrow back and big boobs is a bit of a problem, as many manufacturers only go to a D cup and/or seem to think that if you've got boobs, you must be bigger all over. Wrong!
I buy Shock Absorber bras from Figleaves, which I wear either under a T shirt or on their own if I need more skin on the pole. I don't like the idea of wearing u/wire bras for pole work, so I stick to sports bras. Shock Absorber bras come in several different colours – purple, teal etc. I've found them very good.
Hope this helps!

Hey guys, what's happening about the pole jam in London in May?…anyone?
-
This thread is hysterically funny – Iaughed so hard I had tears running down my face 😉 Just a thought, if you release gas when you're spinning round the pole, would it increase your momentum 😉

Salubiveres – I'd like to know this too 🙂 I don't think my body would let me do as much as some of you ladies do;-)

Earlier today I was asked how often I go to pole classes. That got me thinking … at the moment, this is my schedule:
Mondays: beginner pole (1 hour – includes warm up 10-15 mins, pole spins and tricks, learning a routine 10-15 mins, and a very brief cooldown/stretch)
Tuesday rest.
Wednesday 1 hour flexibility class (includes warm up). Sometimes I do intermediate pole 90 mins on Wednesdays too (includes warm up, strength training, pole spins, stretching) – different pole studio than Monday and Thursday nights.
Thursday is Intermediate pole at the same studio as Mondays, with the same format as for Monday.
Friday rest.
Saturday morning 1 hour flexibility class (sometimes I do a 1 hour cardio class – sexy dance based aerobics) first.
Sunday afternoon I sometimes get the chance to use my pole at home!

You ladies/girls are so inspiring 🙂 I am 55 and started poling a year ago. Loved it from the get-go. Thanks heaps for the pointer to Grande Dames of Pole on F/book – I've just joined. Wasn't aware of them until now.
https://www.studioveena.com/users/view/4d4d1573-536c-495f-b1bb-7e8a0ac37250, I love every minute of pole, too!
https://www.studioveena.com/users/view/4d88fa38-7ee0-4d89-a2dc-67fb0ac37250, my arms were pretty weak, too, but a year of poling has seen me actually develop some bicep muscles 😉
Keep on poling…us older ladies rock!!

Amaranth, I'm a bit of a a noob as well – been poling for just over a year, but have only just learned to invert – and even then, sometimes I can, sometimes it just doesn't happen 🙁
Would be great to meet some other polers 🙂

Great idea! I'll be in South East England (an hour or so outside London by train) in May, too. Count me in as a tentative, as I'm not sure what my plans will be…but a pole jam sounds awesome!

Thank you for the welcome! I am glad to be here, amongst fellow pole enthusiasts 🙂 So glad I found your fabulous website!

I've been poling for one year exactly today! I'm not sure if I've lost inches or weight since I started, but I definitely have more muscle than I did before, and am more toned.
Vipergal, you're an inspiration! I am 55, though not a grandmother. Most polers I know are in their late 20's. I wish pole had been around when I was that age – the mothers of most of them are younger than me!
