I pysched myself into it by telling myself that I can hold my body weight up with both arms, and the cradle is no different. I started off doing the cradle as a static move, and am only now learning to get some spin on it. One of my instructors says she had a lot of trouble with that one, too!
For me, the basic invert has taken me *months* to learn. I still can't quite get my heel hooked around the pole, but I can get my toes on, and then grip with my knees and kind of manouver my legs and hands into position from there. Once I'm up there, its all good, and I can let go with one hand and leg, no problem, and today I let go with both hands 🙂
If there's a move I'm "stuck" on, I keep at it, but I congratulate myself on each tiny improvement to keep my motivation going. I love poling so much, there' s no way I'm going to give it up 🙂

But then, other times, I just don't care and am proud of what I do.
I never told my Dad, but did tell my Mum. I was a bit hesitant about telling her at first, but she was totally OK about it – she tells *everyone* that I pole dance! She even helped me put my pole up in my lounge room!
Possibly I'm more comfortable with the whole thing 'cos I'm that much older than probably most people who pole dance….I was a late starter, should've done it a few years ago when I first heard about it. I'm 55, and have been pole dancing for nearly a year. I'm older than the Mums of several instructors I know 😉 Wish it had been around when I was in my 20's!

Hi, I found a Pole Fitness Association visual dictionary on the web. Sorry I don't have the url, but a quick google should find it.

I have also found a lack of confidence when using my home pole. My (82 year old!) Mum helped me put it up. I think the lack of confidence is to do with not trusting that we put it up correctly, but I think it *is* OK, I just have to learn to trust it!
I have the 50(?) mm X-Pole (chrome). I found it very slippery at first. One of the instructors at the studio where I go, suggested coating it with "Tite Grip" and leaving it for a couple of days. This seemed to do the trick.
Make sure you "test" the pole *every time* before using it, too! My pole converts to spinning, and I find that I need to convert it to spinning, then convert it back to static and tighten it up again before using it, as sometimes one or other of the sections of it spin a little until I've re-tightened it.
