I actually love this thread it’s making me reconsider a lot of "why" I even do moves…I hope to post more…please wanna hear more hated moves and why! gotta go..

I find this thread super interesting! AND i DO TONS OF REALLY UGLY STRENGTH MOVES AND i REALLY HAVE NO INTENTION OF APOLOGIZING FOR IT!!!!!ha ha ha …I’m a strong person and to tell you the truth a lot of people are offended by my muscular dancing but at the end of the day this is how my body ended up and how it wants to move. Pole dancing is an art form; an expressive one. It’s also pretty hard to master! a lot of years have to go into your dancing for it to slowly transform into something smooth and expressive…and a lot of those individual moves are dead spit ugly but will lead to other prettier moves; or end up being a useful transition move….It ends up being one of he most challenging things that you can try to tackle. I have a personal goal of actually dancing on the pole…I believe that it is possible to really dance up there and not just do "gymnastics" . However , I’m middle aged with a young child and not likely to ever perform;compete or even dance informally for a friend…so I’m not going to beat myself up for not attaining the levels that the pros are at. I do find it quite amazing that SO many people here have such well considered, passionate views on the aesthetics of Pole…that is what real art is all about!!! WE actually care about it! WE judge and critique and that also gives it meaning because it shows how important it is to us…

that is so beautiful…how thoughtful and kind of the Veeners who arranged this

interesting to read that performance has evolved so much in a year…and very exciting too! I am still blown away by the highlights of last year’s show! bare feet for the amateur optionals…very interesting…It sounds as if pole is reaching a whole new level of artistry AND athleticism. I find these word of mouth commentaries really interesting and now I feel ok about not necessarily seeing complete footage of the show.
all who are "reporting back" thank you so much!!!
I think this is a real new level and am I ever happy to be a part of it even just in a small way…eagerly awaiting MORE news:)

well said Veena, that’s perfect advice!

well, I was teaching and there were only three students in class…We decided to do "one last song" and as the girls were starting to dance( just strolls and some basic spins) a pole came down and fell across the room and the ceiling plate sliced my poor student from temple to ear….a lot of blood, ambulence, incident report…she went to the hospital and ended up taking quite a bit of time off work….
It was awful. I was not good at dealing with the injury and I’ve had a LOT of training as I previously worked at heights and was in danger of falling and getting injured as part of my job…I had done three classes in a row and the poles were not installed properly (teaching OUT of my regular studio at a community centre)so one came loose after over 3 hours of use…
It is not something that is very likely to happen but it happened to me!!! I made a lot of noise about safety after that and trust me some people I work for did not like it! But I’ll never, ever forget seeing MY student slumped on the floor and bleeding from the head!
so at the end of the day you legally can refuse to work in an unsafe situation : for you or your students.
check the set up, be aware, have students work in pairs for advanced moves if you can’t spot all of them, teach ways to get out of moves and…don’t teach inverts if students can’t hold in an inverted V/ chopper…
good luck! It’s actually well worth the trouble as there is nothing so wonderful as seeing the joy on a students’ face as they "get" a move or let go and just dance around their pole

@ Veronika
ha ha it’s funny isn’t it…I know it’s not what people were actually looking for;like it’s not the roots of the current pole dance culture; but I think it’s really sweet… -

It’s Charlie Chaplin. at around 3.00 He does that move remi martin does…and a wicked slide…pole dancing started as a circus act, using the center pole in the tent… -
I am so sorry for the loss of your sister. my prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time.

this sounds SO FUN!!!!
but…I will not be able to attend as Sunday is ballet and swimming for my daughter and our unofficial goofing off together day. She’d be really upset if I went out of town for a pole Jam instead! …and she’d not be likely to play along and just come with me either (she’s 7) since she REALLY loves our Mom and Daughter time after all the official tasks of the day are done.
I know you’ll all have so much fun, please take lots of vids. hope this is the start of a new tradition for the Toronto area pole fanatics!
