wow, @ amcut…you are so very eloquent and thoughtful…I really appreciate the time you put into your response, that’s so inspiring So much of what you said is so very very true and I am thrilled to have my favorite pasttime so validated by your analysis!. I took a look at that original person commenting about Oona, and I know that person, she was an instructor at the studio I go to…always told me I was "athletic"!!!(love ya Martina if you are reading this…) She is a very beautiful and sensuous dancer herself and I find it interesting that the pole community ; although Global: is actually quite intimate. Studio Veena continues as a unique space for us all to express our opinions and practice our pole ART..how lucky we are to have this

…you may be a pole dancer if you no longer need to do any upper body or core work at the gym…you may be a pole dancer if you’ve decided to INCREASE your upper body work or core work at the gym to improve your pole skills…you may be a pole dancer if you won’t do any heavy leg workouts at the gym anymore because you’re afraid you’ll bulk up too much to EVER get the jade….you may be a pole dancer if you now take ballet in an effort to improve your leg extensions on the pole…you may be a pole dancer if you are a pretty good hula hooper now but only because it’s such a great warm up for the pole…and this is a bit bad..you may be a pole dancer if you and your 7 year old daughter agree that the most fun thing to do on Christmas Day (after opening presents)is to go into the pole studio Mom works at because she has a key and you’ll have the whole place to yourselves…she honestly asked me to take her!!!please forgive me people…

you may be a pole dancer if you are torn between getting that surgery to fix a bad C-section scar or not ; because the recovery time would so screw up your pole practice….but if you DID do it think of the itty bitty shorts you could wear…at home of course!….you may be a pole dancer if you won’t even wear a one piece at the beach without a towel or wrap nearby but are fine with posting pole dance vids on YouTube for the whole world to see.

    HOOPS!! Yay!!
you can go to Hoopnotica for the travel hoops or the regular types that are one big circle with no connectors(it arrives coiled up and you then un-coil it) Hoopnotica has very pretty hoops,
or try "Hoop City" it’s a forum much like SV!!! They have lessons, tutorials, forums and vids of members; plus links to make/buy hoops

a good supplier of custom hoops you can try is Pixie Hoops…..mainly ship to canada and U.S

I love my hoops, I hoop every day as cardio and warm up for the pole

I am so interested in the continued discussion on this topic..I am still kind of working through this internally and hearing the opinions and thoughtful voices of the SV community is very important to me!!! ….I am working through something of a pesonal challenge here…I am listening to you all,and processing it…..
perhaps I am at a point of personal growth and may need to stand up for my own needs and desire to learn a lot more that may require me to explore other studios and teachers too??….
    we shall see….

well this is really really helpful to get such thoughtful feedback.
@ Empyrean; sounds as if you have great communication with your teachers. I agree that it would be wrong to teach anything that you learned elsewhere; to your students at your own base studio, without reviewing that material with the owner .
@Georgiapeach I think you have hit on the real issue here and I thank you, I believe there is that sense of being ripped off if I go elsewhere. IT doesn’t matter if I am just going to have a cup of tea at another studio! The truth is that my boss has really devoted to her life to creating her brand and so to her I am betraying that brand to step into another studio,……HOWEVER I still think that I need room to grow ! ha ha
@ amcut I find the comparisons you made very interesting! I guess another factor is that here in Toronto the market for Pole Dance classes is really tiny. And…my Boss is trying to differentiate her "style" of Studio from any others in town. To be fair she is really hoping to bring it to a more mainstream clientelle .
@Webmaster I have to admit I also am of the opinion that straight out comparison is a good thing if you are secure in what you have to offer
@ charley so in the end that push/pull of personal growth vs loyalty to the home studio ends this way for me…(see below)

Well, on this one I may have to just suck it up and forget working on longer poles. I think it would be ok to take an alternate aerial art to satisfy my craving for heights…so, silks and aerial hoop? How funny it would be if in the end I fell in love with that and ran off with the circus….
thanks for the input; this has really been bugging me and I realize that whereas my boss may be bit insecure I still owe her loyalty and respect.

    thnx all SV people!

Hi there…to be clear, I am not taking classes elsewhere; just using the poles. I’m pretty certain that I’ll be alone (except for office staff of course)when I am there. I feel that it is also important as an instructor to advance in my own practice too…plus I am a person outside of being a teacher. It may mean leaving the job to be able to grow as a person. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Hi there
I love this site but I also have had problems with the vids; particularly when I have tried to upload direct to the site. Is it faster to share a vid that is already posted on Youtubethan to upload at this site? I’d like to have input and share my progress here…any helpful suggestions?
