I got mine 3 years ago, after 16 years of marriage and lots of damage to my real ring. At that point, I hadn’t worn the ring for nearly a year. My tattoo is a replica of my great grandmother’s engagement ring, which I had soldered to the ring my husband bought me. The three “stones” are our birthstone colors (October for me and hubby and June for our son), though it’s hard to tell in the pic. Definitely difficult to design something meaningful for such a small area.

^^Marlo is awesome! Also, check out Finding Your Freestyle. They have some great challenges that help with fluid movement.

You’re welcome 🙂 also check out the Mantis on emotioncatcher’s channel. Kittyclimber and I love that one. With your bendy back, you will probably be able to reach back and grab your feet no problem. It will look gorgeous on you!

Some YouTube channels I subscribe to for new tricks/inspiration:
sonicxplosion – I especially like the Threaded Archer and Spinning Icicle (these videos are linked in my video here titled, “Threaded Archer Spinning Icicle anyone?”
Tantra Fitness – digging the B Girl
Olga Koda and Kapi Huria do some fun stuff I can only dream of but I love to watch them.
Also enjoying Marlo’s flow movement channel. I’d like to try to incorporate some of her movements into a warm up or floor work if my life ever slows down and I can get back to pole. For now, I’m adding vids to my faces and enjoying watching what’s new.
Have fun! -
As a small business owner, my question is often the opposite, “why does anyone STAY in business?” When we are entering our new venture, we are optimistic and energetic, and we need that fuel to push us through the chaos of learning how to be in business. But, after we’ve experienced the complete lifestyle transformation and felt the toll it takes on our families, why do we stay? Once you’ve lost so much of yourself to your dream, losing your business is just numbers on a computer screen, so, why do we stay, what makes us fight so hard to be the 4% who persevere and succeed (depending on your definition of success). As someone who has come close twice to losing her business, I can say there are two reasons I’ve stayed and survived in my industry for 6 years. One is pride. Seriously. At some point I realized I wasn’t working for myself but for the 12 others I employ. Those single moms raising their kids off the income I provide. Those kids needed ME for their food and their school clothes and for their Mommy’s fulfillment and for her pride because she finally worked her way off welfare. That’s huge and hard to walk away from.
The 2nd thing you need to survive is someone strong at home supporting you, your family, and your finances. I thank God every day for my husband’s strength. He suffers too but he does it quietly so he can support me and our household.
If people knew these things before they entered business for themselves, fewer businesses would fail, because fewer people would subject themselves and their loved ones to the pressure of maintaining a dream that has become too much reality. -

I’ve never used a brass x pole, so I don’t know the difference between the two finishes.
It has been my experience that everything you have read in the discussions here about either brand is true. For example, x-joints still slip, PS take real muscle to put together the first time because the threads aren’t perfect, you need to flip the PS over and remove the cover…it gets in the way.
As far as customer service goes, I’ve fixed all those problems myself so I haven’t dealt with either company in that regard.
The PS spins faster and switching to spin mode is easier on the PS than the X-Pert.
I have the Multi-Piece PS Brass, and, again, the issues discussed on other forums here seem to be correct. Mostly, it comes down to treating your pole right and adjusting and cleaning it every time you use it. When I have left my pole up for weeks and just keep playing without checking it first, bad things happen (with both brands). I’ve had both come down on me and attribute that to lazy user error. I have had the PS Multi-Piece “unscrew” in the middle a bit while using it, but, my fault for not adjusting it properly. After over a year of regular use and not-so-regular cleaning, the finish is still great. I actually like the broke-in finish a little better. There are no bumps or wear really, just areas where you stick best.
All that said, my next pole will be a TG X-Pert. Even with the annoying x-joint issue, the TG finish sounds like the best of both worlds, if you believe what you read in the discussions here…and I do 🙂
Good luck and happy new pole! -

Tried to the comment on the video but it didn’t stick. Have you tried starting with the lower hand higher? I do my holly drop the same way and I recall bruised ribs in the beginning. Not cool 🙁 I’m not certain if it was raising the lower hand to create more room for my body to pass through or if it was moving quicker in the drop that helped me stop hitting my ribs. Looks good so far. Good luck!

I have a music background but not a dance background. I can count music but would find myself intimidated by dancing to counts. I think your lesson plan sounds amazing and very adaptable. I would love to take your class! I find that I often adapt the lessons I’ve learned here, in class, or via DVD to my own style once I have the mechanics mastered. Don’t abandon your lesson plans. Explain to all students that your choreo is meant to be adapted. That’s why you teach it to different music styles. So, if they prefer to count, they can. If they prefer to wander off into their own world, they can do that too 🙂 For example, I love Alethea’s floorwork DVD and I follow her instruction. However, when she gets to the choreo portion of the DVD, I do not follow her. I just feel the music and do my own floor dance, adapting her moves and adding others I’ve learned here and in studio. My floor dance is different every time.

I think there’s a big difference between yourhappy significant other supporting what you do and flat out telling you, “you can’t do that.” I mean, if everyone in our “real” lives supported us in pole and listened to us obsess about it, this forum would have far fewer users.
I think it’s great if your guy/gal watches you pole, listens to all your pole stories, and helps you get a new trick. I think it’s equally OK if he/she just plain doesn’t care or understand your obsession. That’s what Veeners are for 🙂
I’ve been with my husband for 22 years. We don’t know everything about one another. We don’t cheerlead for one another. We don’t tell each other, “you can’t.” We don’t beg for one another’s attention. If one of us needs something, we go out and get it. If I need my husband, I tell him so and he’s there. And, if he needs me, he asks and I’m there.
I guess, to me, needing someone’s permission or support or encouragement for a hobby is just a little needy. On the other hand, if someone were harassing me because I pole, I would expect my husband to have my back. -

Thanks nymphdancer! It looks like it on their website, but, with nothing to compare to, I wanted to be certain. It looks like it's about the size of a ball hitch, does that seem correct?
