Shoulder Mount. It hurts so bad and scares me so much that I think it just looks ugly on me. Knee hold kills me too so I just don’t do it, but I think it’s beautiful. I do Marley instead.

Awwww….it’s beautiful!

I’m on my feet working 80+ hours per week. I usually only get one 1.5 hour session on the pole each week. In the two years I’ve been poling, I’ve never been able to do more than two sessions per week. My old body can’t handle any more than that! I do try to spend at least 15 mins each day doing yoga just so I’m doing something for ME every day. Tons of my free time is spent watching my son’s sports and I LOVE it but I’m totally jealous of all the workouts he gets!

I’m studio taught. Have picked up a lot of the advanced stuff from a combo of studio classes, Veena’s lessons, videos and Skype sessions with members here. I try all new moves on both sides when I’m “figuring them out”. I think I just stick with the side that feels most comfortable or the side that I’m working when I finally nail the new move. I do find it very odd that I feel very weak in any split grip spin with right hand low, but vary the low hand for advanced split grip poses. Weird!

I’m right handed, but I do a lot of lifting and other tasks with my left. I think that’s because my mother is left handed and I learned those things by watching and mimicking her actions.
I invert comfortably on both sides, but prefer one side for most tricks. For Superman, I like right hand high. Gemini – both sides, Scorpio – right leg.
Here’s where things get weird: Ayesha – right hand low, Handspring and Cartwheel – left hand low. Forearm grip for ayesha, straight edge, brass monkey – left forearm grip, Forearm grip for Flag – right forearm. And, just to really mix things up, when I go from CAR to brass monkey, I’m most comfortable with a right forearm grip. -

@Hazi – I got the side string shorts in cobalt and skulls! Can’t wait to get them!
-
@Lallinka – I agree with PFM. If you see something you love on Mika, get it! I love their stuff and oftentimes mix and match it with my other polewear.
@PFM – Thanks for sharing. I haven’t seen onzie before. Guess who just ordered two new pair of pole shorts? -
Lady, I go through this all the time. I think it’s pretty typical. But, I know it makes you cranky with yourself. Sometimes I use it as an excuse to buy new pole clothes. Can’t resist poling in a hot new pair of shoes or shorts 🙂

Check out November, 2011 chair dance challenge vids. Legend’s was super sexy. Or look at luckygirl’s floorwork vid to “Paper Planes” (my all-time fave sexy vid). Also, check out ottersocks “Naughty List” vid from last December. Those are just a few of my faves on this site. On YouTube, search “Bringing Sexy Back” and you’ll find tons of hot pole videos. Enjoy!

@JelliCrew – tracee is my FAVE! Of course her movement is gorgeous and we all wish we could dance like her. But, I think the reason her style resonates so well with me is that her movement is so honest. She does what she does because that’s who she is and her emotion translates well because it is so honest. Yes, she is a trained dancer, but her training flows because she interprets the music honestly and with her soul.
I think most of us who’ve poled for a while have felt the way you feel now. I know pole overwhelmed me and I struggled and felt very inadequate for quite a few months about a year ago. I wanted all the tricks and dancing ability of a pro. I made the common mistakes of setting high expectations for myself, trying to perfect everything, comparing myself with others, etc….
When I stepped away and really thought about it, I had to laugh at myself and my insecurities.
I’m competitive and that’s good. I try to do my best and work hard at everything I do and that’s good too. For me, pole is a hobby. I had to really think about why I started in the first place. I wanted to gain strength and improve my posture without swallowing a bunch of vitamins or lifting weights in a boring gym. I wanted to have fun with a workout that wouldn’t bore me to death.
For me, pole is a hobby and a workout. I want to love it, not perfect it. I want to improve, of course, but, if it ain’t workin’ it ain’t workin’ and I need to move on to something I can enjoy.
I was reminded of this recently while watching Krissykiki’s videos. That girl is having fun and loving dancing with her pole. Her videos are fun and infectious.
Like luvlee said, there’s a lot to work on in pole, a new trick every day, and we’ll never catch up. I agree with luvlee also that floorwork is tricks ’cause I’ve gotten the rug burn, sore stomach muscles, and bruises to prove it. How much fun is it that whatever we choose to work on, we will always get a great workout, we will never be bored, we will always improve, and there will always be something new to learn? It’s your workout and your dance, do what makes you happy 🙂 -
Lush – I lmao at the “sending my mom a gift” remark. I was thinking the same thing. My mother worked for the District Attorney. Not only did she have to pick her kids up at jail, she once had to issue the warrant for my brother’s arrest…the poor woman!
