Another was like, “OMG you are getting so tiny, your waist is so small now”. I definitely love having some muscles and losing some weight. The biggest thing I notice though is my attitude change, nothing is too hard, and nothing is impossible. All I have to do it continue to work hard every day and push myself, that has been the most rewarding benefit of pole dancing for me.

@Blondebird You are definitely one of my pole crushes! LOL. You are SO strong and talented. I’ve shown your videos to countless friends and students. Jaws were dropping. =D

This is a very pretty variation of the juliet! I was trying to work on the devils elbow and haven’t had success with the pain tolerance yet! Korinne – I’m excited to meet you and pole together at the Pink Lemon jam, I’ll try to remember that I want to try this!

The pole comes in 2 pieces and is actually 7.5ft, and I bought an additional 2ft extension piece that connects. The base takes up about 6ft of round space. For the purposes of being a new student it worked great for me! It is very sturdy, I have never tipped it over – and I tried (to make sure it was safe!) It was pricier than a regular pole but I lived in a condo with tall ceilings and wood floors and my dear hubby wasn’t crazy about installing a pole (even a removable one). I never regretted buying the stage, it literally takes 5 minutes to put together and take apart. I’ve travelled all over with it, and you can break it down and hide it in a closet if you need too lol. It’s definitely not as sturdy as a pole that is drilled into the floor, or even a removable pole, but its’ still very safe and I use mine for events all the time still. Check out my videos – I have one of the assembly of the pole straight out of the box. =)

I’ve also heard classes called pole boot camps, pole conditioning, pole circuit, pole HIIT, etc. You can get fancy and create your own style!

@Charley I would just make sure to have someone who is Insanity certified teaching the class, we only use the name because the girl who teaches is certified through them, I wouldn’t want to cause any trouble over legalities with them. However, I also teach Pole Strength, and Pole Fit, and you’re welcome to use either of those as well =)

I have basic studio rules for dress code. For our group fitness classes we recommend a sports bra, tank or tee shirt (optional – especially for upper level classes where more skin contact is needed), and form fitting shorts.
We do not allow students to wear only underwear (panties, thongs, or g-strings) or bras or string bikini tops.
I do not regulate what students wear to private lessons or to our events. It’s all about corsets, booty shorts, and sexy attire when us grown up ladies come out to play!
I personally prefer to wear booty shorts (or swimsuit bottoms) with a sports bra and leg warmers. Some days I wear a top, and sometimes I don’t. It’s not about flaunting my body or trying to intimidate students, I want them to know that I am simply comfortable in my skin and I want them to feel safe and know that I won’t be judging them if they choose to bare some skin too.
Pole class is a place to celebrate our bodies and to be empowered to strip down if we choose!
I love pole because it allows us to be fit, feminine and sexy!

I offer “PoleSanity” classes at Pink Lemon Studio in St Louis! My instructor is Insanity certified and we fuse pole strengthening moves into the classes. I recommend trying BodyRockTV on youtube as a great source of HIIT (high intensity interval training) that you can do before a pole session.

You could get her something as simple as some muscle rub too, I love this stuff: http://www.badgerbalm.com/
Other healing things like arnica gel, epson salts/bath salts, aromatherapy essential oils are great too.
You can also get stuff like Starbucks gift cards or hot tea assortments, fluffy scarves or leg warmers, or maybe even a gift card to a different fitness class like yoga or zumba (we all need to cross train and network with other fitness people too)?
It’s very sweet that you are thinking of her, she is lucky to have you on board. =)

It’s been 3 months since I opened Pink Lemon Studio and we’ve been happily chugging along and growing into a wonderful community. We are gathering a great group of women and they have been having fun learning pole and getting into healthier shape. I’m so proud of where I’m at so far, and I look forward to the future. I love pole!
