There is a free web service and app called myfitnesspal.com. I really like their calorie counter and phone app. Calorie counting and weight loss is huge trial and error and I do not feel there is a 'one size fits all' approach. My personal experience was It takes a bit of time to find out what works for you.
I learned the hard way that for me to lose weight I have to stay on the high end of my calorie budgets to lose weight. If I stay at the low or moderate end I will not lose weight and I will gain. So that means if my daily calorie range was 1500… I need to eat 1500. If I ate 1200 or 1300 etc… I would hold or gain.
I would do one cheat meal a week. I ate whatever I wanted and it was normally unhealthy foods… After a week of salads and lean proteins and kale… I felt entitled.
Experiment and allow yourself some time to find what will work for you. It can be very VERY difficult…
At the very least the focus on your food choices and healthier choices will benefit you. : )

I am not scared to do tricks on my pole but I work within my fitness level. I make sure that I am focused, well rested, warmed up and have the strength for anything I try. Once I start to fatigue I will NOT practice inverted moves.
I agree 100% with Veena, worry is not a productive thought process but it is so common. I am guilty of it.
I am very mindful of hand placement, body positioning and most importantly how I am feeling at the moment before I consider the move. I can what if for days… I could fall in the shower and get a concussion or I could trip when reaching into the oven when I was baking or I could… (add any weird accident scenario here). I focus on minimizing the what if mental chatter.
It sounds like you have a strong foundation working with a studio for a year + on inverts. Maybe you can discuss with your instructor how you may build confidence to attempt some of those moves at home, or have a friend join you while you practice those moves, get a crash mat if that makes you more comfortable, revisit your pole setup to feel confident with the equipment, make sure you are warm and ready, etc.
Only do what you are comfortable. Your emotional state of mind and confidence is extremely important with your home practice. If you just don't watn to go there with tricks use your home time for sexy moves, floorwork, flexibility and save the tricks in class.
Have fun and be safe.

I had issues with my X Pole X joint stripping and spinning and had to replace it. Even though that was considered 'user error' it resulted in me having additional expenses to replace the stripped joint. The finish on my X Pole has also started to bubble. It has still been a very structurally sound product.
I have an X Stage lite and I love it. I have not had any issues with that product. That stage takes abuse and then some. I think it looks sexy!
I also have Platinum Stages single piece poles that I love and have the ceiling mount in my home for those. I use my PS poles almost daily.
I feel each brand has its advantages and disadvantages. There are many things to consider when you invest in a pole, multi piece, single piece, finish, stage or pole, tension mount, permanent mount, semi permanent mount… the great thing about multiple manufacturers is that you have multiple options.

@Lyme Lyte… $60. That's great! I don't know why it is so expensive here but $125 is the best deal I found in my area. I like stainless steel the best… it just seems to work really well with my skin. I have always loved the look of the powder coated poles. I figure this way I can have something fun that looks cool and also has a super grip for when I am practicing certain moves or building strength.
@Witchess, thanks! I'm taking my favorite pair of heels in for color inspiration! See just how close they can match it. I'm sure they have seen everything there and won't bat an eyelash. Excited to see pics of yours.

We are all so individual and there is so much trial and error to find out what works best. I found personally that fats and protein combo keeps me fuller longer and works well for snack. An example of some snacks I will eat for protein/fat is chicken breast and diced avocado (about enough to fill a 1/2 to 3/4 cup measuring cup). I base the portion size on my hunger. A favorite of mine is pinto or black beans with a tablespoon of salsa and diced avocado (about the same 1/2 – 3/4 cup). I buy canned beans and I rinse them under water then put them in a pyrex and put in the fridge so they are ready when I am. I also like celery sticks that I put peanut butter on. If I am craving sweet I eat 2 small tangerines with a scoop of chocolate Vega shake and go protein powder mixed with water. That is just protein no fat but it helps when I have a sweet tooth. If I am crazy desperate hungry I eat one piece of bread with some peanut butter folded in half and a cup of 1% skim milk. That is borderline for me though because the bread/milk is not good for me. That is more of a 'comfort food' comprimise. If I eat breads, granola, cereals, oatmeals I get ravenous hungry and fast… that stuff does not sustain me at all and then I end up craving really startchy bad carbs like bread and chips. For meals I always do regular dressing on my salads (I measure 2 tablespoons for the serving to make sure I am not getting 400 dressing calories) and put 1 tablsespoon of sunflower seeds and 1/4 to 1/2 of a diced avocado on them. Also this sounds weird but I love pinto or black beans sprinkled on top of my salad. Those are a few examples of what has worked for me… for breakfast I have green smoothie (blended kale, spinach, frozen fruit and a wee bit of apple jucie for the base) that I sip on for a few hours and beans with salsa. I save my fats for afternoon early evening when I am most hungry.

Thanks!!!
You can never have too many poles… excessive… never!!! : )
I thought about the 38 but I like the bigger diameter so I am going back to 50. I am so excited! SS is my favorite finish. It will be nice to have the variety. I have a house with average ceilings and a ceiling mount… not anticipating any moving so this should hold me for quite a while.
I would love some high ceilings…. that would so be worth selling my poles to order taller poles. I have one climb and I'm at the ceiling. Grrr.

This was a little more challenging than I thought it would be! The best deal I found was $125 for a glittery shimmer finish… that is still a bit steep but in a price range I will do. I'm not sure why it is so expensive here, I was hoping for $80. : (
Witchess, can't wait to see your pics. You ladies got great deals! Sensualscimitar… seriously… 150 for basic and 300 for glitter. Oh hellz no.

Congrats DaniDuB on your ACE certification. I feel badly for the student in this case and hope that she continues to enjoy classes regardless of that experience.

I have taken dance classes for 21 years and I am hypersensitive, it is in my nature. However, I would not let that comment keep me from going back to the studio. If I was thick… I would be realistic with myself about it. I would however want more specific feedback on how I could get into the move or have less of a hard time with it. Telling me my anatomy is thick doesn't help me execute the move, prepare or grow into it. That's just me though… I know there are folks out there that are tough as nails and can take any comment and roll with it. : )

WTH? That was way inappropriate. They should have commented on how the student was approaching the move with their body mechanics and made suggestions to help the student either 1) achieve the move after correcting their form 2) do movement that would prepare them for that particular move when they were more capable to execute it safely. Not comment about their body composition. All I would have heard if I was that student was "You can't do this move because you're fat".
