Yes Liz! I taped my measuring tape end to the ceiling and then used a level to make sure the tape was level and took an exact measurement. Feeling quite smug with my precicion I later proceeding to second guess myself. I have measured multiple times. Will probably measure once more before ordering. In my case the saying is "measure 18 times, cut once".

  • Great suggestions Charley! So true how we need to work within our current fitness situation and build from there.

LopsiJulie… holy smokes! I hope you are okay. Get a new GP… they are getting paid to do more than ignore your medical needs. That 'walk it off' mentality is nonsense when one is need of medical care. Wishing you the best for recovery.

  • Listen to your body and the signs it is giving you. Sounds like at this time the daily flexibility training of the same area may be a little much.

I know that I am doing too much flexibility training in one area when I have soreness that does not ease up after a few minutes of light stretching and when the area is actually less flexibile than the time before. When that happens to me I back off.

What worked for me with Alethea's DVDs is the Pure Splits every other day. I was doing the stretching for pole on the other day. Stretching about 6 times a week. The most I will do pure splits is two days in a row.

Adjust your routine for now and see how you feel. You don't want it to be a bad, painful experience.

Hi Pegasusaerailfitness, on their website I saw this for the the removable pole… it says up to 12 feet. However…I second Liz and say contact them. She knows about this far more than I do, just wanted to share the link I found.

I messaged Erica at PS here in the forum and I did call yesterday and they told me the best combination of products for what I am looking for. I may need to call again to ask some additional questions on that mount. Options… options.

I want those tall ceilings you laides have! I research things to death so will wait to hear on that mount but 99% sure that is the option I am going for. I like super easy installs… works for me. I have used 50s so really want to see what the 45 is all about!

This is a deep inquiry that only you will know that key to unlock it.  To me though it sounds like a question of confidence and you changing a perception or challenging something within yourself, seeing something in a different way and having the courage to actually stop and explore it. Kudos to you!

I was raised to wear a 'full face' at all times. Even if checking the mail a proper lady did not leave without a full face. In the south this meant foundation, powder, full eye makeup, liptsick the whole nine yards.

Even if IN your house you were not proper unless you were fully made up. I mean heavens forbid if you had to call 911 and the ENT arrived and you were not beautified.

I enjoy the versatility of makeup. I have bags and bags of false eyelashes and all different kinds of makeup. My daily wear is a light tinted moisturizer or a primer with light powder. That's it! If I want to go all out and glam it up… I do. I have worn full on diva makeup to buy groceries. Or worn light powder over primer to walk into a legal proceeding.

I understand that there are situations where people wear makeup for less cosmetic reasons and I respect that. I respect whatever choice someone is making about how they care for themeselves.

For my personal routine though, it boils down to i do what I want and my makeup matches the look I am going for and the level of effort I want to spend in it at that time. I am confident with or without makeup. It is only something I am applying to my outer shell… it washes off, it does not define my essence.

That came with me living my life for me and letting rules other people have made slip away. So yes… I leave my house without a full face often… gasp and swoon I have "caught the vapors".

Experiment to see what works for you. Do what you are comfortable with and what you want. It will work out perfectly!

Liz, I saw a semi permanent option on their site for 10-12 feet. My ceiling is 79 inches so the less than 10ft pole will be my option.

Vaulted wood ceilings Tarah… I am so jealous of you right now! : )

Diagonal on the joist… intereting. When I called Kevin said it can be mounted on a two inch joist. I messaged Platinum Stages here on SV asking a few more questions about that mount. I want to be sure I do that right and that it is structurally a good fit for the way my home is.

When I said what I was looking for Kevin suggested I get the Vaulted Ceiling Mount (which works for non vaulted ceilings too) and the Extreme One Piece Super Pole. Now that's a mouthful! They call this a "semi permanent" option. The mount will remain on the joist and I will slide the top of the pole in the mount. I can use any finish or diameter extreme one piece super pole with the mount. He said a lot of studios/gyms use this so they can take the poles up and down quick and use the floors for other purposes.

I only have one spot that a pole will work in this room… want to have as much versatility as possible so this semi permanent option sounds great for me.

I am planning to start out with a brass 45. Just have some clarifying questions on mount install on a 2" joist and I'll be ready to order. Im hoping to get a message back but can call if needed. I dont use my phone much. : )

Hi Tarah! Thank you so much for your reply. I was considering bolt to the floor before I knew about the superpole option and that a bottom anchor wasn't needed.

My joist is two inches across… what is the size of your joist?

I love the concept of no maintenance and also want something where I can switch out the pole diameter and finish as desired. : ) I want to start out with a brass and the eventually get the steel.

    You have received wonderful advice!

Many of us have been there. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and make a game plan! I was one of the weakest girls in class. I couldn't hold my feet off the ground for a second. With a heck of a lot of hard work and dedication… I improved.

I remember a forward spin that I couldn't get… every one else was. It felt like an agony! My ego was hurt and did I mention my ego was hurt? ; ) I was strong enough but couldn't get it for anything. A substitute instructor came over to me and shared I needed to fall forward with my body. I was shifting my weight back right after hooking my inside leg and therefore blowing the momentum of the spin. Now the instructor saw me struggle for three weeks and did not comment that one little piece of information. I watched everyone around me glide to the ground and I just flopped around feeling like a fool. Why she didn't share that tip with me I am not sure… maybe she didn't know. I could what if for days but that doesn't matter.

I felt bad about being 'weak' or 'slow' because I let myself feel bad. I focused on the 'can nots' and what others were doing. That was not productive for my goals, I refocused instead on what I wanted to do and more importantly… how I was going to get there. That is when I started to see progress.

Tailor your strategy to your learning style and resources. There are so many tools out there. Class instruction, Private instruction, Workshop, Online lessons, DVDs, Youtube, Pole Jams, Pole Buddies… and just putting the time in specific to the goals you have. What works the best for you right now? What works best with your learning style? Tailor this to you… this is all about you. Enjoy that! This is your journey.

I suspect you ARE getting better. Think of just one thing you CAN do that you were unable to before that first class. Even if it is having the confidence to strut up to that pole!

We'll be here for you waiting to hear more! : )

I called Platinum Stages and they suggested the One Piece Super Pole with the Vaulted Ceiling Adapter. They told me that the Vaulted Ceiling Adapter can be used on a flat ceiling and can be secured to a joist that is the size of my joist. Then I can change out the pole piece to other poles. Both sizes of their poles will fit into the Ceiling Adapter.

This will not be secured to the floor but will allow me the flexibility I am looking for to change pole finishes and diameters.

Sensualscimitar… have you received your PS product yet? Are you liking it so far?

Hi LizzyLiz810, Thank you so much for the suggestions! I am getting the floor installed on Friday and will be vinyl over a concrete foundation. That will alter my current measurement so I am waiting for the install before I do the final measurements. Great idea re the glue as well. I *love* hearing I made a great choice too! ; )

Hi Amy, Thank you for the suggestions also. Hadn't thought about that route… but I love it! That would be perfect for me to change out the main pole piece and have anchored top and bottom. Do you happen to know if the PS one piece removeable top and bottom pieces fit both the 2 inch and 1.75? That would be a win/win/win if I could put different diameters and finishes in the same mounts.

That didn't sound right… what I was trying to say is by watching the installation video you can see exactly how to do the install. So when you get yours you will be more familiar with it.

My xpole does not leave any marks in the ceiling or floor. I totally love it.

    : )
