Love the purple boots, Veena! Thanks for all the great feedback. I think I’m going to get them, but will be sure not to rely on them. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cool.gif

Welcome DeshaBiller! I’m somewhat new too, and have found in addition to the wonderful people, SV is such a great resource for info on everything from pole instruction, problems w/ specific tricks, music ideas, events, injuries, etc. etc…..and most of all….inspiration! I can’t believe how much I’ve learned about poling since I’ve been here. I love how everyone is so happy to offer their input to help & support one another!

This is a great thread, there are so many posts/responses with great music suggestions I’ve either never heard of, but want to check out, or music I hadn’t thought of but can’t wait to add to my playlist now, which I’m always looking to expand. Thanks everyone for sharing!

Thank you so much for the great suggestions, I checked out the thread/vids and think I’ll really benefit from getting back to basics and spending time with these strength-building tools. I definitely rushed into everything so I could show off on stage at work. I figured since I’ve always been fairly athletic I didn’t need to waste time prepping my body. But now sitting at home w/ injured ribs isn’t impressing anyone! I’m so glad I came to SV for the support I needed and now have some solid steps I can take.

I promise after the holidays I’m getting a camcorder and will start posting vids! I really appreciate everyone’s help and support, and hope I can provide the same for others someday!

Thank you for the responses! I do have a brace from before, but it never occurred to me to use it when practicing pole, great idea! I bet you fractured your rib on the pole, I know of girls who have bruised them. Problem is, I work at a club (bikini), and it seemed the girls were too competitive and catty to answer helpfully and advised me to never do any pole tricks again. It’s so nice to find you all that take time to offer true support!

When I first learned to invert I think the problem was that I wasn’t strong enough and ended up using the side of my body against the pole for support, which put too much pressure on the ribs. I’m guessing there are exercises I probably should have done to prep first. If anyone has any suggestions I’d still benefit, as well as other polers getting ready to invert (I’m new to SV and apologize if this has already been covered).

    Licia:
It’s weird because it feels like the pain is the bones, similar to when I fractured them, but prior to that I had pulled a rib muscle, and that also felt like bone pain, so weird! Now sometimes it kind of moves almost to my back, then back to the front of my ribs. Another weird thing is I’ve had it on both sides, and the fractures were just on the right, which makes me think it’s not from that.

You sure did! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif Looks great, I’m sure the rest of the moves you lost will come right back now. I just got my forearm aysha last weekend after working on it for months! I can do it confident every time. You’ll have to just take my work for it tho, cuz I don’t have a camcorder yet. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif

    CONGRATS!!

What’s the chair? As long as it’s less frustrating than the evil shoulder mount, I’ll make the trade! Can I get it tonight? I’m working and would love to throw in a new trick even if I have to forfeit it in a week! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_moneyeyes.gif

I haven’t even been able to get my hands on a shoulder mount yet. Everytime I try they’re sold out! I came SO close. I’ve been trying for a year. Is that normal? I get other moves quicker. And I’m sure if I ever do have the good fortune to get a hold of one of those shoulder mounts it will get ripped away from me by the grinch! Or worse, I won’t even want it anymore…

    Thanks Charley!

Yep, those little things have a lot of power unfortunately! I do the same as you, I constantly remind myself of the benefits of not smoking anymore.

I’m so glad I found this thread! I’ve been trying to quit off-and-on for months! I’ll stop for a few days and then start right back up. I quit for 3 yrs. several yrs. ago and was so happy about it, started smoking again a couple yrs. ago and want to get back to smoke-free! When I quit before I used Wellbutrin (Zyban), and it worked really well, and I’m on it again now. Today is my planned quit-day and so far, so good. Now that I’ve found you others going through the same thing I feel so much better and am more determined! I just think how sick it makes me that I fell back into smoking, but I’ll never regret quitting…!!

You might want to try the chinese grip for your straight edge. While it still takes strength it doesn’t require as much arm strength as the forearm grip.

What is the chinese grip?? I just learned forearm & elbow aysha (not completely comfortably/confidently yet), and am working up to split grip.

Also, Wanders, for me practicing the caterpillar climb before the aysha helped me get the forearm grip first because you use it to climb (or I guess elbow too, but I find the forearm easier in the caterpillar climb). Then when you start trying aysha you are already familiar w/ the grip. Hope that helps!

Oh, also, I worked on lunchbox and bow & arrow in between where you’re at and starting aysha…
