I got taught this move by Marion yesterday in a contortion class! I can’t oversplit my left leg and I’m nowhere close to doing contortion level backbends, I can do a back bend and a jazz split, i cannot square it. It is like an illusion split, but to make it look beautiful the foot you grab has to be just over your head. There are two points of contact to stay in it. The bicep, in my case it was the left arm and the butt!! The key is the butt, the pole needs to sit in the same crease as when you do a superman. I hope that helps, I was able to do it, and hold it and not fall out of it. so if I can many of you will too. And yes you have to switch your hands. If you have trouble grabbing your foot, tie a rope around your foot, it helps loads:)
I’m still really sore after her class and probably won’t be doing too much stretching for the next couple of days lol
I did feel a little dizzy after doing it, probably best to do it spotted first time. I gotta say it felt amazing doing it, never thought I would be able to do it.

I have the problem too! I have noticed though the more I pole, the less I have. So I’m hoping with time..not so much cellulite. A fake tan can help to make it not stand out as much.

I did the 60min classic workout DVD last night and loved it. I had to take breaks in between (she suggests to do that) as its so intense. You really feel the muscles burn. After the completion of the set the muscles feel quite fatigued, I had wobbly legs lol. I’m gonna continue as I have never tried anything that works the outer thigh region so well, and every other problem region I have 🙂

Ah I hadn’t realised that, doesn’t matter though cos I was intending to upload it to iPhone and iPad(after I purchase it) I’ve been converting all my DVDs into mp4. I use mac the ripper and handbrake to extract and convert. I bought the dvds directly from the ballet beautiful site. Once I get them I can let you know who I went with playing them directly and converting them etc 🙂
    I’m from Melbourne 🙂

I’ve always thought boy and girl bands are groups consisting of only singers. I think they tend to be teens or in their 20’s. I was a huge backstreet boys fan back in the day. One member was a teen the rest were all in their early 20’s. I think maybe the reason why the boys are younger may be that their target audience is little girls, and if memory serves me right when i was 12 I recall thinking musicians we’re old when they hit 30! :O lol and only crushed on boy band members. I also adored spice girls and looked up to them, it didn’t bother me they were in their 20’s.
This sounds like a fun challenge 😀

Thank you for mentioning this DVD series, I had never heard of her. I bought them both last night. Really excited about doing her workouts 🙂
I’m hoping some of her grace and lines rub off on me as I find I really struggle with my arms and hands.

I only was able to watch a bit of it. I really liked watching Cleo’s performance, I want her glow in te dark costume! 😀
I also really liked watching Carlie Hunters nanna routine, my view was blocked at the end as all the audience stood up and cheered 🙂
the UPartists person said all the stream was going to be archived so it might still be on their ustream page, in case anyone wants to watch

    @tali Kat
Oops I should have explained better, I’m still getting to know the veena terminology. I only pretty much hooked my leg with momentum.. after 4 months, which I know is really bad. I did a proper invert with straight legs a year after starting. Because of my poor technique initially I threw my back out which took a few months to recover. In a way getting an injury early on was a blessing in disguise as it showed me I had to slow down and learn proper technique, I took this same approach with shoulder mounts. I should also add I only started hand springing a little less than a year ago (after having poled for 2 years) and had to really work on proper technique with TG as I suffer from
    de quervain’s tenosynovitis.
Ps I managed to get it from watching Dakota fox’s tutorial on YouTube like 10 times, she’s very thorough 🙂
Sorry for the side track, I just wanted to add that as theres so many TG threads popping up and to be honest her YouTube clip helped me the most 🙂

Hi, I too had no experience in dance too, not flexible at all. It took me about 4 months to be able to invert, but it was messy and it took me about a year to chopper, I think that’s what girls here call it and a further 4 months after that to be able to do a chopper aerially. It took me a longer time than normal as I had no background, not even when I was little. I did my first pole performance at the school I learn about a year and a half after starting, with “style” I’m drawn to rock music. I think the key to dancing especially when starting out is finding the music you feel more comfortable with, that way the song you dance too doesn’t feel like a chore, if you like it and are drawn to it you can losen up more.
I did find personally that the first year was the hardest for me as I was building strength, so a year after that I started on flexibily as I could tell this was gonna be a longish journey. It took me 6 months to get left split, one year to overspilt it, it took my other leg two years to split, took longer as I have sciatic nerve pain on that side, I’m still working on over splitting that side. After two years of poling I personally have found that most trick where easier to learn as I had strength and flexibilty. I’m at 3 years now and still learning loads and really enjoying the journey. I only recently found this place, I wish I found it sooner:)
I think the most important thing is to not give up and take your time and practice! practice! Practice! It can only get easier with practice 🙂 at the moment I’m working in aerial handsprings, it took me 8 months to get one from the ground, probably take me a further 8 months to get it in the air lol oh well c’est la vie 🙂
