When I train on my pole at home, I don't think I ever train for over 1 hour, including warm ups and warm downs! I am happy if I do a good 45 minutes session.

Everyone is different as Veena rightly said.
I have been pole dancing for 5 years. I imagine that if I'd trained every other day for 2 hours, I'd be a professional by now. But I have decided to take it slow. I want pole dancing to be my sport all my life, so why rush it?
I have just started an advanced class (level 5) in London (UK). And precisely because I took my time in building up strength I did very well and could already do a lot of the moves with great control. It was really gratifying!

I also really believe in letting the body recuperate from sports also.
I was in a lot of pain after this last pole session. So I just has hot baths and didn't do any sport, apart from walking! And I am sure it will help my next session.

    Hey Glitterhips!
I am glad you are not quitting! It’s the best sport ever, how could you find a replacement!!
I really agree with those who say that everyone learn at their own pace.
Just the other day, I went to a drop in pole dancing class, and there was this girl who had started like 2 years ago an could do everything, from handspring to shouldermount on the ceiling. And she was saying she initinally had no strenghts at all.
I did feel like ‘what have I been doing all this time’ but hey, everyone is different, and learn at their own pace.
I like to think that although I am not a fast learner, I do look for perfections and do things very well in the end, even if I wasn’t the first to make it!
It’s important to concentrate on oneself to be successful!
I wish you the very best of luck with your training. God knows it’s difficult to pole dance in isolation. And keep the momentum going!

    Hi Azriel,

Thank you for the tip! I will try that..
I always invert with the pole on the left indeed, and my strong arm is my right arm, you got it right!!
I will try to invert from this other side and keep the left hand up, I may have more luck!
    I’ll keep you informed!
I did train a bit today but my back still haven’t recovered from the V shoulder mount, it’s still sore. I need to rest for a few days https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I think it depends on people skin as well. And it also could be down to technique.
I remember when I first learnt the cross knee realease, my skin was killing me. But actually it was down to bad technique. When I learnt to do it properlly, it didn’t hurt anymore.
The pole sit for example does not hurt me as such. It feels unpleasant, but it doesn’t hurt. I probably have thick skin!!

thats great you got the shoulder mount! and yess this is a great place to learn and be motivated! kepp it up! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Yes, actually I am working at mastering it at the moment. I have managed the SM, with the V invert, which hurt the muscles in my back because it’s all new.
So now I am taking it easy before continuing the training https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
But it’s all so exciting, I was trying for years!!!
And yes, I did do a very serious workout to increase my strenghts and I believe it helped

Congrats on the SM! I’m so glad your here!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Veena this tutorial saved my life! I can’t wait to do more.
I can’t believe that what was holding me from doing the shoulder mount all this time was actually not lack of strenght but bad technique and fear (which was overcome from starting first on the floor)
I even went to a pole dancing class and they didn’t help me with that.
    I am so grateful!!!

I think it really varies from one person to another.
I am not naturally flexible. I have been stretching towards the splits since January and still nowhere near them.
I do not strech everyday because It is hard work to reach the level of warm up necessary to strech every day. So I do it after each pole workout, about twice or 3 times a week, but for a good 30 mn each time.

My flexbibily has improved greatly though, so it is good enough. Flexibility is so important when it comes to pole dancing. But reaching the full splits is really challenging for some!
