Just wanted to take a moment and update everyone on the contest. We are working the final bugs out of the system so some of you will see some of your entries dissappear as the facebook entries are removed. We will be spending some time this weekend evaluating referal links. It is important to note that a referal will not count unless it is coming from a link that contains the words pole dancing.
What about the facebook links from facebook blogs?

Looks sort of like what I’d call a Brass Monkey, but your arms are wrong for that. How did you get up into it?
It would be a brass monkey if I let go with my arms and bent my straight leg back….which is where I was headed with this move…I was attempting to grab BOTH ankles for a closed brass monkey (aka funky monkey)- which is how I got up into this. I can see how it could be an "Eros" move if I pushed my body further out from the pole- however does the Eros move have a variation of grabbing your ankle on the bent leg? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif I will have to try this same move but push my body out from the pole next time… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

I have been working on this move myself recently. I found the dominant hand to work best (which is my right hand) below. I also have found that thrusting your hips upward will help getting into the plank position. Hope that helps! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

I got my mirror from Lowes and they had several different sizes. I went with a long door looking mirror so I wouldn’t have to always rely on a mirror when dancing. I figured if I had a bigger mirror- I’d want to always watch it. You can always record yourself too. It helps with seeing things you need to work on better. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

Make sure if you are doing anything requiring electrical you know exactly what you are doing or have someone you know do it that is familiar with wiring. I wouldn’t attempt removing a ceiling fan on my own because I don’t know much about the electrical aspect. To be on the safe side- Always turn your breakers off and treat the wires as if they are hot at all times- EVEN if they do not have power going to them. Good luck! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

It looks like Veena has a Pole Turns tutorial in her lessons archive. I also searched on youtube "pirouettes, pole turns" and found a really good video by DivineMovement in which she did for her own sister. I took a class as well and that is where the hand placement really clicked for me. I did my own little tutorial for my bestfriend back when I was taking classes but I will have to search through my own video archive to see if I still have it or if I deleted them. I remember I got really into it with the hand movement and the camera. LOL. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

My September challenge/1 year anniversary video. It was super hot and slippery but I managed to get enough to edit for a full song. Hoping my next videos will be better. Don’t mind the purses- I was trying to theme my pole room to the song with purses and shoes. LOL. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

You had to stand on a stool for yours? Wierd, I never did. I just kept it at the proper length and stuck it up standing on the ground.
I twist the top piece down so I have enough to slide it away from the ceiling mount. I have carpet too which makes it hard to slide right out of place. Plus I’m probably a clutz and would bang everything around trying to make a smooth transition if I didn’t give myself more than enough room. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif Do you have a video you’ve posted or can post? That way everyone will be able to offer their constructive critisism. Thanks! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

Thank you so much for the wikipole.org link! I have been looking through this all night at work and putting together my goal moves for the next several months! Not to mention how much this site is going to help me in my latest art project- a scrapbook of my own progress. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I am just curious how everyone structures their workouts with the pole. Do you just go for it and dance around and try all the stuff you know? Or have any of you set up an actual work out plan with the pole? I’m finding out I am having a tough time figuring out how to structure it! Thanks~ Mindy
I actually have a mirror set up in front of my pole with a dry erase marker that I will use to write down all the moves in sequence of executing or just simply the moves I want to work on for that day. Helps keep me organized in my workouts as I have become easily distracted when I begin to think about other moves I want to try. LOL. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

When I first started I remember the skin on my inner thighs would burn. I would keep ice packs handy and apply them to the area immediately after I was burned. That seemed to help a lot. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif
